Majestic Bluffs Overlooking the Scenic Ohio River…
Perry County is full of massive hardwood forests with secluded glades, challenging hiking trails and abundant wildlife. Perry County has thriving communities with progressive school systems, charming neighborhoods and safe streets. A growing economy is energized by public sector programs that encourage business development. These unique features, and much more, describe Perry County, a community that is wisely pursuing a vision for the future shaped by its proud beginnings.
Ideally situated at the confluence of the Anderson and Ohio rivers, settlers were drawn here because of Perry County’s seemingly boundless supply of natural resources and its remarkable diverse scenic beauty. Today, Perry County is entering a new era of economic growth as corporations from around the globe are seeing the value of its unique location, transportation resources and hardworking residents. Local government agencies are responding to this growth with highway expansions and infrastructure improvements.
Interstate 64 cuts through the northern portion of Perry County. It is an approximately 22-minute drive from Perry County Industrial Park Riverview or less than 15 minutes from Perry County Industrial Park South via State Road 37. The Hoosier Southern Railroad, owned by the Perry County Port Authority, provides customers with state-of-the-art rail transportation service from sites throughout the region.
Perry County has its own general aviation airport and is ideally situated between two major airports: Louisville International Airport, which is the site of United Parcel Service’s global distribution hub, and Evansville Regional Airport. Evansville Regional Airport is served by six airlines and Louisville International Airport is served by 15 airlines. The two combined provide daily direct and non-stop service to more than 80 cities.
Indiana’s newest port has professional loading and off-loading capabilities from barge, truck or rail as well as warehousing facilities for customers with critical, just-in-time manufacturing needs and an on-site office complex. For heavy industrial goods, agricultural products and commodities, the Tell City River Port offers a centrally located distribution point along the Ohio River.
County festivals attract people from all over Indiana, including the Dogwood Festival in April, the Hoosier Heritage Fall Tour in October and the Schweizer Fest in early August. Visitors and residents enjoy art shows, games and plenty of food and entertainment. Other annual festivals include the Summer Festival, Bluegrass Festival and the 4-H Fair in July.
The Tell City Historical Society in downtown Tell City showcases the area’s first fire engine, St. Paul’s clock hands and an immigrant’s violin. The new Perry County Courthouse Museum in Cannelton conjures up many memories with its antique pianos and organs, crockery, photograph collection, blacksmith shop, original log homes and annual quilt display. The Troesch Steam Engine & Antique Museum in Adyeville is a rural and quaint family-owned museum with old steam engines, tools and much more antique paraphernalia.
Visitors and residents enjoy strolling through Historic Downtown Cannelton, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, where the Indiana Cotton Mill serves as the anchor structure. Ten historic sites around the county are listed on the National Register and many more are recognized with historic markers.
Three hotels/motels are located in Tell City: the Ramada Limited, the Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites and the Day’s Inn. All three are located in the Highway 66 commercial district. Several cabin rental options are located throughout the county (see Things To Do In Perry County for listings). Finally, camping is available in the Hoosier National Forest along with several private campgrounds.
There are three school systems in the county, each offering classes K–12. Tell City-Troy Township School Corporation features preschool through 5th grade at William Tell Elementary school. The junior high school offers a range of mini-course exploratory subjects and computer literacy to grades 6–8. The Tell City High School features three fully developed college-bound lanes and eight vocation tracts in addition to the normal education process.
The Perry Central Community School Corporation, serving rural Perry County, incorporates preschool through 12th grade under the same roof. The high school extends an opportunity to earn several college credits through Vincennes University.
The Cannelton City Schools house grades K–2 at St. Michael’s Elementary, grades 3–6 at Myers Elementary and combines junior and senior high in the same building.
Perry County features an Ivy Tech Community College in Tell City, and is within commuting distance of the University of Evansville, University of Southern Indiana, ITT Technical Institute, Indiana Business College, I.U. Southeast, Oakland City University, Vincennes University – Jasper Campus, Kentucky Wesleyan, Owensboro Business College, Brescia College and U of K Community College.

Perry County is also blessed with a source of local financing for businesses through the Tell City Revolving Loan Fund. Tell City has secured an additional gap financing program for businesses through an IRP revolving loan fund. With the Chamber’s sponsorship, on-site Small Business Development Center (SBDC) counselors provide individual business counseling services.
With a talented and abundant workforce, Perry County is strongly positioned to serve the needs of your growing business. Local insurance agents, investment services, realtors, travel agencies, accountants, lawyers, printers, office supply stores and business support services are all available to cater to your business needs.
The innovative business climate is a large part of the reason companies experience such success in Perry County. The private sector and local government agencies work hand-in-hand to ensure our workforce has the education to adapt to new manufacturing processes. Easy access to rail, highway and river transportation resources is readily available as are all utilities.
Perry County also offers companies a menu of incentives to help them succeed. These include Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts to pay for infrastructure improvements and new construction through the use of property tax revenues. Perry County also offers Property Tax Abatement that allows companies to phase in the property tax increase that results from investments in industrial buildings, land, machinery and equipment over as many as 10 years.
Our largest manufacturers include ThyssenKrupp Waupaca Foundry (iron castings), ATTC (automotive machining), Sentury Safe (safes and filing cabinets), Parker Hannifin (filter media), Can-Clay Corporation (clay sewer pipe), Webb Wheel Products (wheel and drum components), Best Home Furnishings (furniture), Stewart Warner South Wind Corp (aerospace/heat exchangers) and Mulzer Crushed Stone (limestone and gravel).

The hospital’s wide variety of services includes an intensive care unit, a medical/surgery floor, obstetric unit and 24-hour emergency room services. Home Health and Hospice care and services are also available to patients who are in need of care after discharge from the hospital or individuals with a chronic illness.
Area physicians include several family practice physicians, general and vascular surgeons and many specialists who hold outpatient clinics at the hospital. Perry County is also well populated with dentists, optometrists, a podiatrist and chiropractors, clinics, as well as home healthcare and skilled and independent living options in group settings.
