New S outh W ales (Australia) has experienced extreme rainfall resulting in significant floodingin a number of populated areas along the central and northern coastline of the state withsignificant impacts on property/infrastructure. Flood Evacuation Orders for people living inlow lying areas in a number of localities have been made.Very heavy rainfall, lik ely leading to flash flooding, presents a serious risk to the NorthernR ivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, S ydney Metropolitan, Illawarra, and Central Tablelandsdistricts. In some areas, heavy rain and flooding may be life-threatening.T he present map shows the flood delineation in the area of Maitland (Australia). T hethematic layer has been derived from post-event satellite image using a semi-automaticapproach.T he scale of analysis is 1:25.000. T he estimated geometric accuracy (R MS E) is 6.25 m orbetter, from native positional accuracy of the back ground satellite image. T he minimummapping unit (MMU) is 650 sq m.
