Magazine in a Bag
Non-Fiction Summarizing
Practice

QuIcK How To: ❉ Every Friday, my students choose a Na#onal
Geographic magazine from my classroom collecAon to take home in a gallon Ziploc bag designed to keep the magazine protected and hold their summarizing materials.
❉ When they return the next week, they bring back the magazine, a pre-‐wriAng sheet, a completed final copy of a summary, and a filled out rubric.
❉ I spend Ame during the week to grade each summary, add my own thoughts to the rubric, and have them ready to return for a new magazine pick by Friday morning.
❉ I recommend laminaAng the ‘Neat Paper ExpectaAons’ if you choose to use this acAvity on a regular basis-‐ this way you can save some paper and the kids can keep them permanently in their bags. J
