STATE 4-H ROBOTICS CONTEST, AUGUST 13 4-H members in the robotics project may participate in the State 4-H Robotics contest at the Missouri State Fair on Sunday, August 13. The challenges and rules are posted on the Missouri 4-H Robotics page QUILTING QUESTIONS FOR FAIR? Note: As long as the 4-Her pieces the quilt together, it is acceptable to have a volunteer complete the actual quilting. TAKE A LOOK! 4-H/FFA FAIR BOOK (PDF) FAIR CONCESSION STAND SCHEDULE Lafayette County 4-H Council will operate the Concession Stand during the fair. Keri Borchers is the chair. Clubs : Remember to have a minimum of two adults and three youth. Designate one person to grill. Clover Kids DO NOT NEED to preregister for Fun Night but they do need to pre-register for the Clover Kids PET Show. 4-H SUPER FARMER CONTEST TUESDAY, JULY 11 — 4-H’ers age 8–18 5:30 Registration 6:00 p.m. The games begin! Pre-registration required by June 25 to guarantee a Super Farmer T-Shirt. Teams of 1 boy & 1 girl age 8-10, 1 boy & 1 girl age 11-13, and 1 boy and 1 girl age 14 & over will be formed based on the entry forms. CONCESSION STAND: CALLING ALL PIES! Each club will be asked to bring three or four pies and cobblers on the day of your shift (no cakes or muffins — they do not sell well), and provide at least one adult to work with your group at the concession stand. The solar eclipse is coming! The solar eclipse is coming! Much of Lafayette County will witness a complete solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. Hundreds of people travel

around the globe to catch a full solar eclipse. You just have to go outside!

Pick up your stylish, sun-safe 4-H Solar Eclipse ‘Sun” Glasses at the Lafayette County Extension office for

$1.50 a pair. Supplies are limited, so act fast!

CLOVER KIDS’ CORNER

5-Minute Ice-Cream

It’s July, and there is no reason you should go through the whole month (let alone a week) without ice-cream. This is a simple and fun treat your Clover Kid can make from start to tasty finish. The basic recipe is as follows: 1 tablespoon sugar ½ cup milk, cream, or half and half ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract 6 tablespoons salt (Rock salt is best) 1 gallon-sized Ziploc bag Ice to fill the gallon-sized bag halfway 1 pint-sized Ziploc bag Steps: 1. Mix the salt and ice in the gallon bag. 2. Mix the milk, vanilla and sugar

in the pint-size bag and seal. 3. Place the pint-sized bag into

the gallon-sized bag. 4. Seal the gallon-sized bag and

shake the bags vigorously for five minutes.

5. Remove the pint-sized bag, unseal and enjoy!

Variations an tips:

� Whole cream makes a thicker ice-cream

� Add a squirt of chocolate for the chocolate-lover.

� Top with fresh blueberries or blackberries from your favorite berry patch.
