Dear Families,
On behalf of the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), we would like to welcome back all returning MacAfee families and extend a very warm welcome to those who are joining us for the first time. We are looking forward to another exciting year!
While we all know this year is one like no other, we are confident that our MacAfee community will overcome the times. Please take a moment to join the private Facebook group titled “MacAfee Road School PTO” to keep up with all things PTO and MacAfee.
The PTO provides a very special service to the staff and families of MacAfee Road School, and we are proud of all our accomplishments. It is because of the generosity, energy, and commitment of many wonderful volunteers that we are able to accomplish all that we do. We have a group of very engaged parents who have partnered with our school administrators and teachers to make a difference in our children’s education.
We strive to create an atmosphere where teachers, administrators, and support staff can do their best work - and so can our children. We welcome all of you and encourage you to become an active participant in your child’s experience at MacAfee by joining the PTO. Any time offered to the PTO will be greatly appreciated.
The basics of your child’s education are supplied through the school budget and the PTO supplies the extras. The PTO spends approximately $25,000 annually on supplies and activities not provided by the school budget. These funds are raised through various fundraisers throughout the year. Families are not required to participate in fundraisers but without successful fundraising efforts some of the items/activities provided by the PTO will need to be eliminated.
Of course, this year will not look the same as usual. We will still do all we can for MacAfee.
Our main forms of communication will be through paperwork sent home in your child’s backpack, our MacAfee PTO Facebook page, and occasional mass email. Please check your child’s backpack daily. There is a PTO mailbox in the main office that we check throughout the week. Feel free to contact us by emailing us at [email protected] or sending a note to our attention if you need to reach us for any reason.

MacAfee Road School PTO The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is an organization made up of parents, guardians, teachers, and administrators who work as partners to enhance the learning environment at MacAfee Road School. We communicate information and act as a liaison between parents/guardians, staff, administration, and the Franklin Township Board of Education. We continually work to enhance the programs
and reputation of MacAfee Road School and strive to maintain good public relations within our district and community.
Your participation through attendance at PTO meetings gives you a voice. You help decide what we do as a group. You help decide how the PTO funds should be used. If you are new to MacAfee Road School, the established families will be more than happy to answer questions and ease your transition into becoming a part of our school family.
Usually, meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7p.m. in the school library.
Currently, our PTO meetings are suspended until we can gather in school again. We look forward to spending time together.

PTO Sponsored Activities for 2020-2021 -- Tentative
Below is a sample of events/activities that are sponsored by the PTO. As we get closer to the date of each event, more details will be sent home.
Field Trips
The PTO helps fund the majority of costs associated with a field trip for each class at MacAfee starting with kindergarten through the 5th grade. In past years, students have attended places such as Turtle Back Zoo, Von Thun Farms, Liberty Science Center, Jenkinson’s Aquarium, and many other destinations.
Teacher Appreciation
The PTO organizes a very special week to honor the hard work of all the teachers and staff at MacAfee with a variety of delicious treats, raffles, and words of encouragement. Additionally, throughout the year, in appreciation for all that they do for the students of MacAfee we honor staff members with for achieving awards or celebrating days of honor, i.e.- Teacher of the Year, Teachers Who Makes Magic, and staff birthdays.
Field Day
This is a wonderful day full of heart-healthy activities! The children cooperate and compete with their classmates in a variety of outdoor activities. Each class rotates through different stations. We always need extra volunteers for this school wide event.
Science Fair, Author’s Visits, & Assemblies
The PTO funds educational and fun assemblies. The librarian invites a different children’s author to MacAfee every year to speak with the children. Our Science Fair Spectacular celebrates our children’s science projects and volunteers from the community share their scientific expertise.
Somerset Patriots – Franklin Schools Night
The PTO helps to organize a night of fun for families of all the Franklin Township Public Schools. The Somerset Patriots sponsors a Franklin Township Public School night. Families have the opportunity to purchase discounted tickets to a baseball game and fireworks display, enjoying an evening of fun with their friends and teachers.
Teacher Grants
Every teacher who is a PTO member is eligible to receive a $25 grant to use to replenish supplies or educational materials/activities for their classroom.
PTO Fundraisers For 2020-2021 -Tentative
The following fundraisers are held throughout the year to help raise the necessary funds to afford the activities mentioned above. More information will be sent home prior to the actual fundraisers.
Scholastic Book Fairs - Fall, Winter, and Spring (LIKELY ONLINE THIS YEAR) Your child will be given an opportunity to purchase wonderful books from Scholastic three times each year. Volunteers are always needed!
Box Top for Education Help earn cash for MacAfee Road School by clipping or scanning Box Tops coupons from hundreds of participating products. We receive 10 cents for every box top. The class that collects the most will receive a reward at the end of each contest.
Dr. Seuss Party In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the PTO will be celebrating with a party. Your child will have the opportunity to participate in a fun filled evening with their peers. This is an event you won’t want to miss!
Restaurant Nights - Kitchen is Closed The PTO will arrange for various local eateries to host a MacAfee Road School Night. Take the night off from cooking and join other MacAfee families in a night out. A percentage of sales will be donated to the PTO. It’s a great way to socialize with other MacAfee families.
Holiday Shoppe Where children discover the joy of giving! There will be lots of wonderful gifts to choose from, all at low prices that students can afford. There will be many gifts just for moms and dads, sisters and brothers, grandparents and godparents, teachers and friends, and even for pets.
Family Night Come have some fun with your kids! This event will bring evening activities to MacAfee Road School to enjoy as a family. Don’t miss this amazing night.
Photo Day & Yearbook
You will have the opportunity to purchase professional quality photographs of your child in the fall and spring. The PTO will be working closely with a photographer in scheduling these dates. Purchase a MacAfee Yearbook and cherish those lifelong memories of your school and classmates!
Catalog Fundraisers Various catalogs will be sent home, with a due date to order and then a flyer will be sent home for pick-up date. Please note that, although it’s a 2-week fundraiser, you can still shop online for more. The information will be sent with the catalog.
