CORPORATE CUP BOWLS NEWS
A very successful Corporate Cup was held at
the Macarthur Bowling Club over 4 weeks with
a number of new people being introduced to
bowls. The 16 teams entered filled the bowling
rink to capacity. We hope that this will start
them on the path to taking up bowls as a regu-
lar sport.
We also ran an extra night as a fundraiser for
Heart Kids Victoria which was an initiative of
the Bowls Women Charity Victoria. Anne
Wright announced the total raised from the
night of $431 going towards the state tally was
very pleasing.

MACARTHUR WINS A GRADE CRICKET COMP.
Macarthur claimed its first A grade premiership in the Hamilton and District Cricket Association on Saturday
27th March, outplaying reigning premiers Hamilton.
Hamilton was looking to winning the Dundas Cup for the second year running but the Macarthur batsmen re-
fused to hand them the chance of batting again in the match. Mark Brilley and Mick Carter began the day and
took the score to 141 with relative ease. Carter went out trapped in front, then Charlie Nield came and went as he
ran himself out. Mat Timms went for a duck, trapped lbw, and the Demons were teetering at 7-142, with a lead of
214 and at least three hours and 17 overs still to play. Hamilton tried everything to get the remaining batsmen out
but Macarthur stood their ground and held on.
Man of the match went to Michael Brilley for his two batting efforts and his three wickets when bowling.
Celebrations were in full swing that night at the Macarthur Pub.

BREAKAWAY KNEBSWORTH HAPPENINGS
On Sunday 14th March Jorja Michelle Rundell, baby daughter of Michelle and Sam Rundell from Breakaway
Creek, was welcomed into the Church when she was baptised by Father Dennis from Portland, at the Spring
Creek Anglican Church. After the service family and friends adjourned to the Breakaway Hall for afternoon tea.
A very pleasant crowd of relatives and friends gathered at the Breakaway Hall on Sunday afternoon 21st March
to witness the placing of a rose in the Memorial Vase by Margaret Annett in remembrance of her husband and
former Knebsworth resident, Malcolm who sadly passed away on 11th September 2009.
Malcom is remembered as a kind, quiet and genuine man who lived and farmed in the Knebsworth area all his
life. Malcom is sadly missed by his family and friends. Brenda Dunn.

It seemed like an eternity before
the doctor finally announced, "I've
got the head now; just a few more
minutes."
"Is it a girl or boy?" I asked excit-
edly.
The doctor replied, "I don't know.
It's hard to tell by the ears."

Moyne Shire Council update
Important land studies – have your say
Moyne Shire Council and Warrnambool City Council have two important land studies out for public comment –
the Land Capability and Biodiversity Study and the Rural Housing Strategy. The two complementary studies look
at settlements, housing and rural areas in an attempt to properly manage agricultural land assets and the future
settlement needs in the Shire. To find out more or to make a comment, visit the Macarthur office in High Street
or visit www.moyne.vic.gov.au/planning.
Warrnambool Cup day a public holiday again in Moyne
Warrnambool Cup Day – Thursday May 6 – will be a public holiday in Moyne Shire in 2010. Moyne CEO Brett
Stonestreet said the Council agreed at its January meeting to declare the public holiday again this year and seek
the Minister’s approval and gazettal. Mr Stonestreet said the move comes after a State Government directive in
2008 for all Victorian councils to declare a public holiday in lieu of Melbourne Cup Day to ensure everyone
gained the benefit of the holiday. The Council is waiting on the formal gazettal process to be completed, which
will make the public holiday official.

POLICE NEWS.POLICE NEWS.POLICE NEWS.POLICE NEWS.
Recently there have been reports of people here being propositioned by individuals claiming to be roofing insulation installers.
On some occasions people have handed over money and in one case, received no goods or services. I urge anyone who has
been caught up in this way to contact me at the police station as the scheme was designed around no money changing hands and
being totally funded by the government. If you or anyone you know has been a victim of fraud, please have them contact police
asap. Please contact police if you are doubtful of any callers and if you hand over money make sure you get a receipt or details of
the company/person. It is also not wise to invite these people into your home and this insulation scheme has since been can-
celled by the Government.
With wet weather season approaching it is time to check your vehicles for roadworthiness to avoid potential collisions. Check
tyres, brakes and lights mainly and replace/repair where necessary.
A few queries regarding trailer registration. Here are some facts:
Does my trailer need to be registered?
A trailer must be registered if :
o it is used for business purposes, and
o is specifically constructed to carry a boat or is carrying a boat and
o weighs more than 200kg unladen, and
o is wider than the towing vehicle, and
o is more than three metres in length, including the draw-bar and load.
A trailer is exempt from registration if:
o it is not used for business purposes, and
o is not specifically constructed to carry a boat, and
o weighs less than 200kg unladen, and
o is not wider than the towing vehicle, and
o is less than three metres in length, including the draw-bar and load.
Exempt trailers must display the same registration number as the towing vehicle. You can purchase an 'Exempt Trailer Plate'
by:
o calling VicRoads on 13 11 71 (Mon-Fri 8.30am - 5pm, Sat 8.30am - 2pm). You can pay by credit card (Visa
or Mastercard)
o visiting a VicRoads Customer Service Centre. You can pay by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit card.
o pay the exempt trailer plate fee, refer to number plates fee
Exempt trailers may be registered upon request. Note: In many other states, including New South Wales
and South Australia, all trailers require registration. If you intend towing your trailer interstate, it is rec-
ommended that you register it in Victoria before you travel.

"How long have you been driving
without a tail light?" asked the police-
man after pulling over a motorist.
The driver jumped out, ran to the rear
of his car and gave a long, painful
groan and put his face in his hands.
He seemed so upset that the cop was
moved to ease up on him a bit.
"Come on, now," he said, "you don't
have to take it so hard. It isn't that
serious."
"It isn't?" cried the motorist. "Then
you know what happened to my boat
and trailer?"
Sorry Dave, saw this and couldn’t resist
