Comparing and contrasting Friday 13th original trailer to our re-created trailer

Original Recreated

• As you can see in the original trailer there film production company is ‘New Line Film Productions’ therefore we used the same one. To give viewers a feeling that it is the same trailer recreated.

Page 3: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Recreated

• We knew it is vital to include the distributors name in the re-creation so we added a shot for audience to establish who the distributors are.

Page 4: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• The first shot after the distributors were shown was a shot of a lake so we decided as Hampstead Heath is very close-by we should just record a lake from there but we didn’t put an effect as we wanted to make it look the original.

Original Re-created

• In the original trailer there were shots of a group of friends entering a house/lake .

• As we didn't have access to a house we decided to just record us entering a forest to imply we are here to have a good time just like in the original trailer, as they jump into the lake and enter the house together in amazement.

Original Re-created

• In terms of the title sequence we had to stick to this convention as most trailers include titles to show who the director is, who the producers are and the actors.

• As you can see we made the writing the same. Although our font we used is bigger in size as the font did not decrease anymore on ‘imovie’ we had to go for a bigger font, however this was better in a way as it looked clearer.

Original Re-created

• From the original trailer there were images of missing posters, because of lack of time we only had two hours to decide on what shots to film, record the shots and also prepare our props.

• For our missing poster it had to be very basic as we had to save as much as time as possible to do our editing and to upload the trailer as well.

Page 8: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• As you can see in the original trailer it is set during the dark in a forest with two friends looking for someone.

• We did recreate this shot although it is not as effective as the original as the lighting was to bright and had to be filmed during lesson time which was in the morning.

Page 9: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• There was a long shot of the forest in the night but as we had to film in the morning in a two hour time period we were not able to film in the dark so it did not create that much of a powerful effect and atmosphere.

Original Recreated

• There is a medium shot of a tree branch, at this shot the camera pans across towards the branch but in the original trailer this shot appears for less then one second.

• Although we decided to change the shot around more to make it look more presentable by making it a mid-shot but also a point of view shot so that it involves audience more when watching.

• On the other hand our shot was a little different again because of the disadvantage of filming during the day.

Page 11: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• We had to stick to the title sequence to give the audience a hint of who the director is and for the to realise it is a recreated trailer as well.

Original Re-created

• In the original trailer this shot of the man shocked after seeing ‘Jason’ the killer.

• This shot is towards the end of the trailer, we also fitted this shot in towards the end as it builds climax and fear in the audiences eyes as they watch a character being scared.

• There are some shots that we decided to mix around so that the scenes grab the audience attention quickly.

Original Re-created

• This is a low angle close-up of someone's feet walking into the forest.• We believed it was important to include this shot as it is showing how

someone is driving there way into danger by entering the forest.• Again we were at a disadvantage as this shot was also in the daylight.

Even though this was an issue it was not a major one as this task was just for us to pick out a few shots that we can re-create a put together footage to show that we are capable of putting together a trailer.

Original Re-created

• This is a mid-shot of the girl hitting ‘Jason’ (killer) with a weapon, as we were unaware of what weapon the girl used in the original trailer we agreed to use a branch as this was also considered as a sort of weapon and would still give you that same feeling whilst watching.

Page 15: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re- created

• In the original trailer there is a shot which is an eye level shot of a women running towards the camera this shot in the original trailer only lasted less the a second as the shots change very quickly at the end.

• We chose to do the scene of the girl running but more of a high angle shot to show that we can use a majority of camera angles and wanted to make the trailer look more effective as we believed it did not look very frightening due to the daylight.

Page 16: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• In the original trailer there was a close-up of a girl look through a curtain but as we had only two hours to prepare we interpreted the trailer incorrectly and thought the girl closes the curtain.• Although we wanted our own touch to the film and used this scene to help audience understand that we don't know who it is chasing us as whilst we shut the curtains in this scene, one of the characters says ‘what is that?’

Page 17: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• In the original trailer there was a close-up of a girl covering her mouth so that she doesn't make any noises or breath loudly when ‘Jason’ is nearby.

• When we came to film this shot we wanted to film in our classroom as it was dark but when we turned on camera the scene did not come out good or clean so we decided to change it around to show the girl hiding under a table with her body posture in a sort of position which indicates she is vulnerable and terrified as she is curled up into a ball.

Page 18: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• In the original trailer this shot of ‘Jason’ throwing his sword is just a few shots before the last shots to build tension.

• We chose this shot as our last shot before the film title appears as it shows who he is and how violent he is as he throws his sword.

Page 19: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• Throughout the original trailer there are flashing number that appear from 1-13 as it is counting down to the date. We also followed this convention they used.

• Although with our trailer the number didn’t look very affective and the background light was to bright but we couldn’t change this on ‘imovie’ as they didn’t have darker shades of white and we didn’t have much time.

Page 20: Friday 13th original trailer 2 re-creation trailer

Original Re-created

• We couldn’t make the font the same as the original’s for our trailer so we pasted the name of the film from one our there posters into our trailer, as the fonts we were going to use were not constructing a sense of watching a horror film.
