A brief of historyHeritage Palace Varoš is located right in the heart of Charming old neighbourhood of Varoš, originally founded by farmhands andfishermen in the late 17th century. A maze of pedestrian streets wind around severalsignificant  churches  and up Marjan Hill. This charismaticneighborhood takes more after an island village with traditionalDalmatian rural-like stone houses, narrow lanes, and scatteredchurches. On ulica Sv Kriza is the parish  Church of St Cross (svKriz) built in 1681 to replace an earlier church. The bulb-like cupola ontop of the baroque bell tower makes the church easy to spot and rightafter its is where we are. Famous Croatian TV series, Naše malo misto and Velo misto (based onthe script by Miljenko Smoje, a writer, journalist, and the legendarychronicler of Dalmatian life, traditions a memorable characters) werefilmed at the property.

The story of Split is already 17 centuries old, dating to the timethe Roman Emperor Diocletian decided to build his Palace righton the peninsula near the great Roman city Salona, where hewanted to spend the last years of his life. During these 1700 years the Palace slowly turned into a city,which to this day lures with its rich tradition, glorious historyand beauty of its natural and cultural heritage, Diocletian Palaceand the entire historical core of Split have been on the WorldHeritage UNESCO list ever since 1979, and not only for theextraordinary preservation of the Palace, but also because thePalace and its city (or the city and its Palace, if you like) continueto live a full life.
