Greetings & Peace be with you! This week, continuing to communicate and share transition updates is the focus. Tis the season of council transition! On April 29th, the congregation elected Christie Burger; Harlen Daugherty and Emily Wiegman to serve three-year terms on the council. Christie was re-elected to serve while Harlen and Emily will be replacing Joel Frederick and Joe Mazzola. Thanks and prayers to those who are serving and have served on our congregational council. The new council had their first regular meeting on May 10th and, as a required part of that meeting, elected the officers and assigned a council representative for the Mission Endowment Fund. Here are the results: President Kevin Lawson Vice President Christie Burger Treasurer Jim Kensinger Secretary Bill Roberts Mission Endowment Team Toni Clark The Call Committee is still in the interviewing mode and is in the process and have moved from web interviews to their first invited to meet here interview. This is great news, but please be aware that there is still months of process to go through. That is enough for this week. As always, thank you for your engagement and support! Feel free to contact me with any questions. God’s Peace Be with You! Kevin Lawson Congregational President [email protected]

Jacob’s Porch Update Jacob's Porch is the Lutheran Campus Ministry at the Ohio State University. Over the last decade, Jacob's Porch has become a ministry synonymous with creative, innovative, adaptive community life that is shaping leaders who have had a church-wide impact. In the past ten years, more than 15 students have entered 10 different seminaries, while others have served the church in global mission and locally in Ohio, and many more have become leaders in congregations across the country. Alumni of this ministry include at least 6 current Lord of Life members who are actively participating in, and leading, a wide variety of ministries both within our walls and reaching out into our the surrounding community.

This is a time of transition for Jacob's Porch, as we are campaigning to raise $300,000 to secure full ownership of the property on the doorstop of OSU which has been home to Lutheran Campus Ministry at OSU for decades. In September 2017, Jacob's Porch was contacted by the denomination that co-owns our building letting us know that wanted to sell their 50% ownership of the property. Terms for title transfer have been reached, and $173,500 is due by June 1, 2018, plus our share of closing costs. We further need to complete certain deferred maintenance (estimated at $100,000) or pay the seller an additional $50,000 by June 1, 2023.

Thanks to the generosity of so many individuals, congregations, and Porch Partners like you, we have received gifts of nearly $129,680 so far -- but we still need more support. If you would like more details than are in this abridged summary, please contact one of the Lord of Life members currently on the Jacob's Porch Board:

ONEBody Grow Trip 2018 In case you haven't heard, the ONEBody youth are headed to Houston, TX this summer for the ELCA Youth Gathering! Over the next few months, all of the attendees will be speaking to the congregation about the trip. We are asking members of the congregation to support us in two very important ways. First, we need lots and lots of prayer! Secondly, we need financial support in order to make this happen. We are so grateful that our congregation financially supports our youth every year. If you prefer to give via check, please write "Youth Grow Trip" on the memo line. You can also give on the REALM app. Thank you so much! Questions can be directed to Ally Huntsberger through Realm.

Panera Book Group

The Panera book group meets each Sunday at Panera located at 2750

Martin Rd, Dublin, down the street from Lord of Life, between the 10am

-11am hour to discuss chapters of a chosen book and it's relevance to

our lives spiritually. The next book the group will be starting is One

Simple Act by Debbie Macomber. We will meet to begin discussing this

book on Sunday May 13th. Please have the first two chapters read for

that week. All are welcome to join the group at any time!

What if you, personally, could make the world a better place . . . by tomorrow? Debbie Macomber knows the secret to doing exactly that! In a world that too often seems stingy and grudging, she has witnessed how one simple act of generosity can yield unforeseen miracles. Debbie Macomber invites us to live with open hands, offering

who we are and what we have to others. When we do so with an eager sense of expectancy, lives—including our own—are changed in ways we never envisioned. All it takes is one simple act.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON BIBLE STUDY

We meet the first and third Tuesdays of the month in room 309 at 1 pm. We welcome men, women, young, and old to join us as we read, reflect and share our thoughts. Last month Gather magazine said that “reading the Bible is a big deal. Whether we are reading it alone or in community, whether we are hearing it in worship, engaging in group Bible study or doing personal daily devotions, reading the Bible is important for our relationship with God, neighbors and ourselves.” This month we are looking at the theme of hospitality. By practicing hospitality, we can bridge differences and learn from each other. Jesus ate with all types of people, and we should emulate that coming together with all people, people of different backgrounds, political beliefs, and cultures. Join us as we explore the theme of hospitality, using passages from Jeremiah, Genesis, Luke, Samuel, and Ruth. And remember, reading your Bible is a big deal! If you have questions, contact Cyndee Schoenhoff inin Realm.

Our New Website In case you haven’t seen it, Lord of Life has launched a new website. This was a complete makeover from the previous 2009 website and one with greater visual appeal, simplification and better messaging of what Lord of Life Lutheran Church is all about. The site serves as an information resource for both current members and those interested in joining the church, and highlights important current events on the homepage. An eight person Lord of Life website committee, in coordination with our website contractor, designed the website. Check it out at: acceptingall.com.

OUR MISSION

To reach people with

the love of Jesus Christ.

OUR VISION

Lord of Life Lutheran Church is a community of Christ where we experience God's grace, comfort and acceptance through each other. From here, everyone is empowered to share, teach and give what each has received.

OUR VALUES

1. The Gospel calls us to unconditional regard for all people.

2. Prayer is necessary for our relationship with God, one another, and the world.

3. Scripture provides the foundation for our lives of faith.

4. The authority for our ministry is founded in Jesus Christ, the head of the Church which is the Body of Christ on earth. An elected Congregation Council provides administrative authority; our called pastor (s) provides the spiritual authority of the Office of Word and Sacrament Ministry.

5. Each member is uniquely gifted by God for ministry and is expected to mature in discipleship of Jesus Christ.

6. Any ministry based on our Mission, Vision and Core Values is valid for our congregation, and may, at any time, evolve or end.
