01 Desember 2012,

Welcome to the first edition of Loop. On behalf of Kinderfield - Highfield School, I would like to personally wish all parents, students, and teachers, a very happy new year 2013. As some of you may already know, this is not the first time our school has published school magazine as another mean of communication between us and you, and we are glad to release a new one called Loop. Through the pages, you will find remarks from a representative of each centers, as well as their key events that occurred in their respective school recently.

I’m proud to say that Kinderfield has grown tremendously throughout the years, introducing Highfield as its secondary school, N.e.t.t. Academy as a training centre for teachers, and also expanding to Cibinong and Pontianak. In the years to come, we hope to reach out and serve to more people all over the country.

Half the academic year has passed, let us now finish strong and continue building a Responsible-to-life generation.

Have you ever found yourself in a bad situation and you feel like you are the victim? Maybe making an excuse is the easiest way in responding the situation. But when it becomes a habit then you will end up as a blamer and you won’t be able to maximize your true potential that God has given you. So what should you do?

One thing we need to realize is how we live our life based on our choices. We are responsible for our own life. Without taking any responsibility, we easily look at our life as a failure because we allow ourselves to be limited by the circumstances.

People who take complete responsibility for their lifes will experience joy. They are able to make choices because they know the consequences, and they are willing to take it as their responsibility.

It’s our choices, to make an event a disaster or an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to complete our experiences.

The most important thing is that we have to be good role model for them. Children see, children do. They learn how to behave from their environment. That’s why we need to speak positively and avoid complaining about all that we have to do. If we make a mistake, admit it and then show children how to correct it. Tell children when we feel upset by explaining the reason.

We need to acknowledge ourselves that your life is your responsibility. No one can live your life for you.God has given us this precious life, so it is our responsibility to God to make our life meaningful and useful.

Sources:New York State PIRC. 2009. Parent Guide: Raising Responsible Children. Cornell University Cooperative Extension Jefferson County. (http://www.nyspirc.org/pdf/Raising%20Responsible%20Children.pdf)Heathfield, S.M. Take Responsibity for Your Life (http://humanresources.about.com/od/success/qt/responsible_s5.htm)

To be a responsible person, it has to be started at an early age. If we start teaching children about responsibility when they are young, they are more likely to succeed in school and in life. We need to make sure that our child stands a good chance of handling the responsibility that is given to him. A child who can predict possible consequences of his actions is more likely to choose well.

Encouraging responsibility in children can be done by building up their thinking and decision-making skills. Asking questions can also get them in the habit of thinking about problems and solutions. Based on New York State Parental Information & Resource Center (http://www.nyspirc.org, 2009), we need to start teaching responsibility early by not doing things for children that they can do for themselves. Children will feel confident and important when we let them be independent.

Children do best when they know what to expect. That’s why we need to be clear and consistent about our expectations. It will be better if you teach the skills by telling them how to do it by giving simple directions. Don’t forget to give positive and specific feedback after children able to do something very well.

We need to create an environment that helps children act responsibly at home and at school. Make sure children know where to find tools so they can do chores and clean up after themselves. Chore charts can also be used so children can remember their responsibilities.

We also need to teach children to cope with the failure. Teach children that mistakes are opportunities to learn. Everybody makes mistakes, they shouldn’t panic. Instead, view mistakes as a time to make a new plan. Let children experience the results of their actions, don’t be a “helicopter” parent who always rushes in to fix the mistake. Remember, when children “choose” their behavior, they also choose the risks.

Raising responsible children

Responsibility finds a way. Irresponsibility makes excuses!

Friendly MatchJoy and Excitement! These are the words that everyone can describe to our students when they had their 1st Friendly Match on November 9th, 2012 at Kinderfield School, Duren Sawit. Our Primary students had the chance to play and show their best in playing soccer against Embun Pagi Islamic

Finally, the most anticipated magazine is finally here. As it suggests, the circle of us, we believe Loop is the finally-found-missing-link. May the bond between us strengthen with the presence of Loop. We are sure that Loop will keep us informed and aware of what is happening on every center. Congratulations for the first edition of Loop. All the best wishes from Kinderfield and Highfield School Duren Sawit.

Elementary School which was held in Kinderfield Multi-Function Hall, Duren Sawit. A week before the event, almost all the players talked about the upcoming games. They planned a lot of preparation for their teams.

During the games, they showed their spirit, pride, unity, and friendship among others. To enliven the spirit of our players, many students from Highfield and Primary, teachers, school staff and even Parents supported the games. Kinderfield chant and cheering were joyfully shouted.

First game played by u8 Kinderfield versus Embun Pagi, and Embun Pagi made it (7 – 3) over Kinderfield. In the second game, u10 Kinderfield won the game (4 – 2) over Embun Pagi. The game

really looked like a professional match. If you could only see how they moved, it was a breath-taking game.

Friendly Match unites us to our neighboring schools. Although the event is now over, we hope that the Friendship will last all year long.

Highfield on the Go

To promote the good quality of education and strengthen the English communication skills among students, Highfield Secondary School is valiant to join various types of competitions. On October 31st, 2012 we sent four of our Grade 7 students (Reiko Iesha, Kezhia, Valerie and Deswen) to compete for Erlangga English Speech Contest which was held in Balairung Universitas Indonesia (UI), Depok. Over hundreds of private and public schools in Jakarta joined the competition.

With the chosen topic: “How Do You Do To Stop Bullying”, our participants took pride to stand and deliver their speech in front of the judges. “I have joined the competition to gain experience and to prove myself that I can overcome my shyness to speak in front of many audience”, Deswen shared. They might not be the winner but the good thing was they had tried their best to win and make both the school and themselves proud.

Standing in front of the adjudicator and the opponent team to bring out the point of views of the certain legislation is really a challenging one.

Last 7-8 November, our school has sent the three courageous debaters from Grade 7 and 8 (Emily, Aisha, and Arya) for the Debate Competition held in Gandhi School, Ancol. Almost 40 teams from different prestigious schools joined the competition.

On the first day of the competition, our debaters have competed the other national plus and international school respectively. The excitement arose when our team won the second and third rounds of the battle. However, our team wasn’t on the finalist. We are looking forward to join again next year for this kind of competition and we are aiming to bring more teams. Go Highfield!

grouped into four houses, red, yellow, green, and blue. Every student, without exception participated in this event. The excitement lingered in the air as many of them joined two or three competitions, and parents were very supportive towards their children. They would put on costumes according to their children’s house color and not forgetting cheering them enthusiastically during the action on the field.

A special tug of war session between teachers and parents real ly marked the moment of togetherness as one big family. And the game was won by the parents, who in fact turned out to be very strong. After all competitions had been completed, a flash mob-like session closed the Sport Day 2012. Parents, students, and teachers danced together in the multifunction hall, while the judges were busy marking the chant performances.

Finally after a moment of impatience, the judges had decided that 2012 trophy would go to the Red House, while the Green House entitled for Favorite Champion due to its creative chant.

Kinderfield Duren Sawit Math Workshop for Parents

It is understood that family involvement in student’s success is very essential and that active, meaningful engagement from parents will help school boost student’s achievement. Still there are many parents who do not feel equipped to partner with school to create the best teaching and learning environment for their children. Especially in math which is always associated as not-easily-understood and too complex to be mastered. Therefore, to answer these needs, Kinderfield Duren Sawit held a math workshop for parents. There were 55 parents who participated in these workshops. The workshop was divided into two sessions.

The first session was on the October 23rd, 2012 delivered by Ms. Lumi and Ms. Louise. The topic covered was “From Concrete to Abstract.” It was about how to manipulate concrete objects around us as tools for teaching concepts in math especially for the 1st and 2nd grade students and to go from there into more abstract ways. Parents were really enthusiastic and keen on learning in this workshop. Most of the parents felt that they had gained the essence of teaching math to their children with a simpler and more creative method.

The second session was held on the October 24th, 2012 delivered by Mr. Robby and Ms. Putri for upper primary. The theme was “Math Heuristics.” Heuristics can be defined as guidelines or strategies to increase the probability of solving problem. After the workshop we expect parents will testify that they had learned new methods which are easier to master. Parents are ready to leave the old ways and understand more of school methods in teaching math.

By holding this workshop, parents are hoped to encourage their children to be creative by finding different ways of problem solving in math using many methods introduced by the teachers. We also would like to gain the parental support and endorsement to the changes which are rapidly occurring within today’s classroom.

“Mommy, Daddy…. I got trophy for my dancing!”, yelled a girl named Sharon happily as she arrived home. This happy atmosphere even remained for a week as she never forgot to mention it to everyone she met, such as grandma, aunty, friends, teachers, and even school security.

It was a very happy moment for Sharon, since the trophy of becoming a winner, brought excitement for her as well as the other children. Even parents and the people around her will also be influenced to feel happy and proud of the trophy.

Regarding this, we sometimes forget that there is another achievement that is rarely to be mentioned, but is important since it delivers the children up to earn the trophy. Let’s say that the trophy is a bonus, and the true achievement is when the children are successfully and happily going through the process.

Literally, a process is a series of actions or steps taken to achieve one result. A child’s commitment is bounded to it. To go through the process, the children need to put efforts and spend more time to rehearse. The most important thing happens during the process, which they can achieve so much, unknowingly.

Social Emotional Skill through developing talent Rehearsal and repetition makes one’s skills developed, whenever the children have mastered one skill they can move on to greater skill level. Self Discipline In a process, discipline is also developed. As they follow and meet the rehearsal schedule, they put themselves fulfilling responsibility toward themselves. Self Esteem By the time, when the children are able to go through one task, they feel satisfied and increased confidence in their ability. Body Coordination Actions and steps that need body movement will develop children body coordination. CooperationIn group/team project which involve a number of children, for example in drama, dancing, choir, and drum band, etc, the children will learn how to adjust their self-ego with the team goals by creating a harmony in movement and sounds. They learn how to communicate with each other to get the same point of view. They also can understand the team pattern as well as the story board, while encouraging themselves to cooperate with each other as one team.

So, let’s encourage our children to appreciate their efforts during the process beside the trophy itself.

Trophy is my bonus

How to Facilitate Learning in Class ActivitiesTeacher's Personal Note

“The teacher’s task is not to talk, but to prepare and arrange a series of motives for cultural activity in a special environment made for the child.” – Maria Montessori on “The Absorbent Mind”

Teachers of young children are at the beginning of their wonderful life-long enterprise of nurturing a human spirit. What we do has the potential to endure over time, long after a child has left our care.

Do you remember the first time a child called you a “teacher”? How did you react? Were you surprised? Were you proud? “Teacher!” a child declared, and the whole world changed for us. At this moment, we became someone who had power and magic in the eyes of a young child. With such power came the responsibility to provide the best for children entrusted in our care. We became a companion and advocate for children in their learning journey. We became real teachers, not just baby sitters or drill instructors. Real teachers do more than fill children’s heads with numbers, shapes, and letters of the alphabet. These skills are important. But real teachers change lives. To change lives, we have to reach out to children’s hearts as well as their minds. We have to create a place of safety where children are free to investigate the world around them, to discover their inner landscape of emotions and to explore human relationships. By emphasizing nonviolence, compassion and the understanding of our shared humanity, we create “The Special Supporting Environment”. By weaving planned activities with more spontaneous encounters, we can create a powerful and responsive learning environment that encourages friendship, compassion, cooperation, and kindness in young children.

SUGGESTION FOR SUCCESS

Personal Comfort Activities should make sense to us as the teacher. We should be comfortable with what we select. If we feel uncomfortable about introducing an activity, choose another.

Group and Individual MatchActivities should meet the needs and interests of the group and individual child. For example, at the beginning of the school year, “Name Games” are useful since children may want to get to know each other better. We should realize that some activities may be too threatening or confusing to children early in the school year when they are still strangers.

Page 13: Loop 1rst Edition

11January 2013

In ConcertDifferent types of activities can be used “in concert” with each other to increase their impact. For example, to emphasize cooperation, we can read a story about two children working together, then we continue in organizing cooperative painting, and lead the children in a cooperative finger-play. We should look for different ways to bring activities we do in our classroom “in concert” with each other.

SequencingThe activities should be conducted in its approximate order of complexity. We should keep in our mind that children may respond better to some activities if they have been properly prepared by one or more previous activities. For example, “Blind Game” should be preceded by “I Cannot See” and “Know See” primary resources, both which prepare children to wear blindfolds.

ReadinessChildren should never be physically or psychologically pressured to participate. They are likely to become willingly involved if they know what to do, and we are prepared and enthusiastic. Sometimes, a group may be ready, but individual children may be unwilling to participate. If so, be prepare to direct them to another supervised activity away from the main group.

Flexibility Our effectiveness as a teacher depends on our ability to adjust as the activity unfolds. Children may react unpredictably, or an unexpected learning opportunity might occur. Be ready to adjust our activity plan spontaneously to overcome problems or to take advantage of favorable circumstances.

Safety The well-being of children should be our highest prior ity in ever ything we do. Ever y safety precaution should be taken as we invite children to part icipate in classroom activit ies. For example, eliminate hazards like sharp objects if we involve children in large muscle play. Or supervise the use of scissors during art play. Or be vigilant whenever blind folds are used. We should remain alert to these and other potential problems and observant of every child in our group.

Further, although we have assumed much different responsibilities since the very first time being a teacher, our heart will always be in the classroom, on the floor with our young children, telling stories, offering puppet shows, talking, hugging, and laughing. To these and all the other children who taught us about kindness, we should extend a sincere thank you.

Ms. Denis

Learning moment that helps us become a quality teacher is the sequence of processing steps in preparing and mastering material, having well time management in delivering lesson and always being aware to the pupils’ understanding. These three points are very essential parts that determine whether we can reach the goal to become a quality teacher.

Preparing materials for particular lesson needs us to browse more data or information so that the material will be a lot more interesting. The process of preparing has brought us to the first

step of learning moment where we can enrich our knowledge from various sources. We can start from the materials around us. We also can invite the primary resource of certain topic to strengthen the valid information. The next step is we should master all the information of the materials in a simple way. The purpose is to ease the children to get information and stick their mind to the topic as well.

Having well-time management is a very necessary step as in general, the children have short attention span. We avoid long explanation in delivering the lesson, as it will make them feel bored and lost from the topic. Speak in clear voice and use appropriate action will help us to maintain the time management well. During the explanation we can invite children to

It is a great honor for me to be part of Kinderfield BSD. I thank God, not only because of the increasing number of students but also because we can endure in facing every difficult time in our learning process with students. Some factors that help us to survive are our team from teachers till our school staffs.

As we know teachers are an important factor in school. We have a solid and experienced team to teach our students. Every teacher

works with a good value, and we also encourage them to treat the children like family so that they will feel at home and full of life. Not only teachers, parent are also our important partner in education process and in the growth of the children. We realize that the children spend most of the time at home. With good cooperation with the parents, their learning process will continue at home and the children will get the benefit.

Kinderfield has its own department in developing the creative & innovative programs and curriculum. This department trains the teachers and observe whether they implement the programs and curriculum effectively. The psychologist also helps us in giving inputs and directions on how to handle not only the student who has learning difficulties but also the student who has good development so that we can stay on track. Last but not least, Kinderfield has staffs in administration, finance, security and cleaning service who always work hand in hand to support the learning process.

I do believe that having a great team, program and curriculum will maintain long term improvements for our schools success.

When teaching little children, I believe that I’m not only teaching language to them, but also many things. I have a great opportunity to help children in forming not just basic math and pre-literacy, but also positive learning attitudes in general.

Being a preschool teacher can indeed be challenging. We must also be aware that they have short attention span, so it is very important for the teacher to perform creative and effective teaching to allow the child to enjoy learning. Here are some of my tips in teaching :

• Patienceisakeyinteachinganddealingwithlittlechildren.• Youngchildrenarestillhardtostaystillandlistentowhattheirteachersays, sotheteacher should make the lessons interesting by turning them into a fun activity.• Everychilddevelopsindifferentmanneranddifferentenvironment.Sotheteacherhasto prepare lessons which are appropriate for all developmental levels.• Everychild’sdevelopmentisunique.Everychildhasowncapabilitiessowehavetotreateach child differently. participate in a discussion by answering our questions in order to know their understanding. By doing this evaluation we might be surprised by children’s thought which never been predicted before. Their imagination is indefinite and unique.

We, teachers, gain our knowledge through enormous chance by observing our children’s needs. Learning moment is started when we are ready to introduce our children to new things around them. Good luck teachers, keep on learning in every step we do in teaching. Together let’s become a quality teacher.

One of the annual events that Kinderfield conducts is “Charity Day”. This event is held every November and this time, Kinderfield Sunter has chosen Yayasan Onkologi Anak Indonesia as the foundation that will receive our donation. In order to make this event successful, the students, teachers, and all of the school officials worked together to raise funds. We encouraged every student to participate by donating some money in to the charity box that was provided each class within 3 weeks. Besides that, the school also had a fund raising bazaar with singing and dancing performances, last November 30th, 2012 presented by the students from kiddy level up to KG B. In this event, the school invited the representative from YOAI to join and be a part of our activity. The students and the children of YOAI were invited to engage in some games that have been prepared, which is created good interactions between them to share the happiness. The fund raising activities for nearly a month ended with a visit to YOAI, which is located in Dharmais hospital, involving the representatives. By holding this charity activity the students get a better understanding of caring and sharing. Moreover, it is also a learning process to foster a sense of camaraderie with others who are less fortunate.

We all want our children to do well in all aspects of life. That’s why we send them to classes that explore art, sports, music, and so on. We encourage them to try out for competitions in school events and sometimes we try to get them involved in things we feel will help them to discover their natural talents. However, what often happen is that we stop as soon as we see our children fail; tend to steer them to follow what we want and walk away. In fact we often think that “perhaps they just aren’t good at it”

What we need to understand is that we can build our children’s talent since it wasn’t something that our children have

to be born with. So what exactly is a talent? Talent is the ability to attain levels of performance that most people cannot attain or indeed to close to. Talent is developed overtime through practice. With talent, someone has one key to gain success, but it means nothing if we do not put practice on it. What we need to know is that specific kind of practice can increase skill up to ten times faster. Besides, we all need a little motivation to get started.

Sometimes we are so conditioned to believe that they need an in-born gift. It is important for us to let our children know that anyone can do anything, they just need to put their mind to and not to give up in practicing quickly. Here I give you one of the greatest examples: Mozart. Mozart began composing at five, gave public performances at eight. When he was 21 years of age, he composed Concerto No 9 and still had been training hard for almost 18 years. Until two decades, his music is always in our heart. That’s why we need to encourage the children to continue and dedicate the time to do well.It is also important to motivate them. Here, parents and coach’s role make a difference in the child’s confidence level. Let our children find something they enjoy doing. Let them practice and see their accomplishment. If they love whatever they are engaged in, that love and the passion will bring out the best potential in life.

Homeworkhomework

homework

One of the most important things which can determine a student to experience success at school is homework. Teachers assign homework for many reasons; homework can help children review and practice what they’ve learned, get ready for the next day’s class, learn to use resources, such as libraries, reference materials, and encyclopaedias, and explore subjects more fully

than time permits in the classroom. Homework can

Entering Primary level means a lot to some parents and students. They must prepare themselves to face exams, projects, homeworks, quizes, etc. It seems there are so many things to do as a Primary student. Parents need to communicate this matter with school and teachers, since every school needs parents’ involvement to participate in promoting the social, emotional, and academic growth of children.

also help children develop good habits and attitudes. It can teach children to work independently; encourage self-discipline and responsibility (assignments provide some youngsters with their first chance to manage time and meet deadlines); and encourage a love of learning. Homework can also bring parents and teachers closer together. Parents who supervise homework and work with their children on assignments learn about their children’s education and about the school’s system.

As for teachers, homework is a meaningful task which can help students learn more about the subject with the parents’ help and will be ready to continue for the next day lesson. As I can say, homework brings very good impact for students, parents and teachers. It improves students learning process and teaches them about discipline and responsibility, as long as teachers and parents pay attention to some aspects, such as the reasonable amount of homework given by teacher each day, parents choose the proper place and time to do the homework, or for parents of upper primary students, it could be discussed where and when they will do the homework, prepare the materials and supporting resources.

From the simple thing such as homework, I believe, together, we can build the next generation that is responsible to life.

Being involved in students’ learning process gives meaningful experience as it also helps me to develop myself as an individual and moreover as an educator. Students learn in different ways, sometimes by seeing and listening, and some other time by reflecting and acting as well as by analyzing and visualizing. Teachers teach in different ways too and most importantly, they are insightful to each student’s characteristics. Teachers give instruction not only verbally but also by participating act i ve ly in the lea rn ing p rocess and by g iv ing demonstration as well. Those experiences inspire me as a leader to bring the team to achieve our goal. Building a solid team requires love, passion and hard work. I need to be able to put myself as a friend, instructor, motivator, as well as role model. In the process, I’m growing myself and the team at the same time. As we are growing together towards becoming better educators, being reflective and taking every lesson as positive experiences are surely becoming important parts of our learning process.

So, the learning process in the class is definitely not only for the children but also for the teachers and me.

October 24th, 2012 was an extra special day for Kinder f ield Depok. Not only the children, parents and their families were excited to go to Gelanggang Samudera, Jaya Ancol. We gathered at school around 7 o’clock in the morning. Some of them looked sleepy, but were still exciting to go. In the bus, we asked the participants to sing along and we also conducted some games for parents and children with a surprise gift for the winner. They were so eager to answer and willing to join the singing time. Time flied and then we finally arrived in Ancol!

Our first destination was Aneka Satwa attraction. Children were so amazed and amused by the attractions. Those animals were so funny! Then we went to Sea Lion attraction and watched them dancing around and even counting! Later the children watched the Dolphin Show in the enormous theater with a big giant screen. Children and their family were stunned with the dolphin’s talent and they were so excited to take pictures with the lovely dolphin. The last but definitely not the least was four-dimension movie. The movie was nice and it taught us to love our environment and respect all the creatures that live inside. Done with the movie, it’s a lunch and free time! Overall, it was such a fun day! What a tired yet amazing experience we could share with children, families and teachers. Looking forward for the next field trip!

Kinderfield

Cinere

To end the academic year 2011-2012, Kinderfield School Cinere presented a school production, or by that time we called it “students show”. The reason we called it “students show” because it was the time for students to show their talent, independency and creativity in front of their own parents. Then again we realize that all parts of the school involved to make it successful, so we decided to call it students show.

It was the realization of dreams. We decided to make a musical drama with the story of Snow White. Main cast was played by Kindergarten B students while Kiddy 1, Kiddy 2 A & B, and Kindergarten A got a role to dance in several scenes to light up the story. Raisa Nurinta Putri as Snow White, bravely took the stage and sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as one of her acts. The whole show was extraordinary. We are so proud of our students. Before the show was ended with the graduation of Kiddy 2

students, each class performed a song to celebrate the moment.

Although all the performances still have room to improve, we all put a really big smile to express our feeling. We are so proud of our students and ourselves, we can go through many obstacles to achieve our dreams. We are very grateful for the never ending support from the parents. We still have more dreams to achieve and we believe we can reach it together.

HAPPILY EVER AFTERSO PROUD, EXTRA ORDINARY, & GOOD JOB

When we go somewhere after work & we are still wearing our school uniform, people who recognize our school often say this one short opinion,” It’s fun to be kindergarten teachers”. If they are stranger, we just smile. But if we know them, we always ask, “What makes you think that?” And most of the answer is because we always look happy.

We do realize that everyday we work with the most wonderful, challenging and unique students. Our daily working menu is always full of singing, playing, and teaching several basic knowledge that we deliver through interesting methods.

Our students deserve to gain love, attention, and care from us. Sometimes they can be impatient and throw tantrum but with good communication skill, we always find the solution to calm them. For us they are not just students, but our reflectinon.

each day is about their wonderful growth, how they express themselves and how they interact with their surrounding. Teachers always have story about their growth process and it always brings smile on our face.

We are happy being teachers, even when we don’t say it, we hope you can see it in us. Be happy, that’s how life should be.

So when people say we are happy teachers, we can be sure that we have happy students.

John Lennon ever wrote, “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down “happy”. They told me, I did not understand the assessment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

We do agree with him. We do hope our stu-dents will grow to be people that are happy with themselves and with what they do. We believe our hope can be achieved since Kinderfield has the philosophy that all children have the rights to grow and learn in a safe, nurturing, and loving environment. We do our best to apply that on our daily school activities. Until now, the story that ends

Pride, Celebration,

and Legacy

The cornerstone which was signed by Vice Governor Mr. Yusuf Macan Effendi is visibly seen at the lobby of the school.

Kinderfield Cirebon just had its dedication of the new building on November 3rd, 2012. Joining in the celebration were people from public office headed by no less than the mayor himself, Mayor Subardi, S.Pd and Mr. Karma Sulaeman, the representative from the office of Vice-Governor of West Java.

This historic occasion emphasizes two important things; gratitude and opportunity.

This event is the result of three years of hard work and persistence in realizing our dreams and aspirations to become the catalyst of change. All through these years the support and active involvement of the parents, students, teachers, staff and administration in school’s activities have inspired the management to make this building and facility possible. Their dedication and commitment is unwavering.

This new milestone of the school is a dream-come-true. All members of the community see the school as the school of the future. The vision-mission of the school, “preparing students to be well-rounded individuals with values” is compelling and powerful. This is the legacy that the school wants to impart – to produce globally competitive and value-oriented students.

Warm greetings from Kinderfield Cirebon!

I'm so excited and overwhelmed as the new principal of Kinderfield School Cirebon. I am fully willing to accept this challenge even though I am sure that the position takes a lot of responsibility. My goal is to continue providing quality education in the community.

Learning is an enjoyable experience, and to lead the learners is a kind of celebration of life. I will continue to build and support the successful academic that we have, through various programs. Here are some of Kinderfield School Cirebon’s documentations. Enjoy the pictures!

The love for reading is one value that Kinderfield students should have. It teaches them to be creative and imaginative through the visit “Perpustakaan 400”, the Cirebon City Library. While they were young, they should be fed with good books, so when they grow up they’ll find enjoyment and pleasure even in the company of books. We hope their love for books will blossom.

Team Bonding Session. One important factors of a successful organization is the commitment and teamwork of all members. This was the professional development day for teachers. The teachers and staffs are also constantly equipping themselves with new learning and experience to be more prepared and ready in their vocation.

An afternoon with Mr. Chris Jackson as he shared to the students the importance of studying English. It was interactive as students interrogated him with questions that he was also caught off-guard. Mr. Jackson and the kids ended the day with a song.

The Kindergarten in their trip to Sangkan Aqua Park, Kuningan West Java where they had fun in the sun while dipping and frolicking themselves in the pool. It was a memorable and unforgettable experience that they would surely remember.

It has been a wonderful journey for our school since it was first established in 2001. In our early years, starting with only 14 students, we rented a location in Simprug area and then moved to a new location in Belezza building in 2006. We finally have a new permanent school located in Pos Pengumben street, West Jakarta in 2007. We are a growing school with more than 230 students from toddlers to primary level enrolled this academic year. Within this journey, we have been facing challenges, obstacles, and difficulties. However, with strong commitment and determination, we are able to overcome all these things so we have become a stronger and more reliable educational institution.

In our school, we use English as our official spoken language in most subjects. Therefore, students are able to apply English in everyday learning activities such as, reading, writing, discussing and presenting materials. In addition to cater excellent academic programs adhering to National and Kinderfield curriculums, our school is committed to providing more non-academic programs (extracurricular programs) so our students can develop and maximize their inner talents and potentials.

In the future we aim to improve our school’s Standard of Performance. We believe teachers play a very vital part in all academic activities. Therefore we are committed to providing more professional development for teachers through trainings and seminars. We will also put more concern on upgrading school facilities such as providing good IT system. A more solid and stronger administration staff will also be our priority. We believe, if we can do all of these things, Kinderfield Simprug will become a more reputable school in the town.

What a big adjustment, that stopped by in my mind as I started writing this article about my experience as a new teacher. Every school surely has its own system where new comers must adjust. Slowly but surely, I have been able to adjust with my new school as well as get to know more about students. Help from other teachers like Ms. Dahlia, our primary coordinator and Ms. Tiwi. I am so fortunate to have such great professional colleagues like them and also the other teachers. Getting to know students learning styles and daily habits was probably the most challenging part. But they are important for a teacher so that we can design a meaningful learning strategy that can accommodate each student’s learning ability or style.

My subject is EL that has to do with reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and others. Of all these activities, poem reading is the most favorite activity for both P3 and P4 students. Poem reading itself benefits students in some facets. First, students will gain more confidence in speaking in front of the folks. Second, poem

helps students enrich their vocabulary mastery. And third, students will get used to speak using rhyming words.

The students enjoy a lot and have been very enthusiastic in this activity by showing their interest to be the one who reads the poem. Recently, I read a very famous poem by Shel Silverstein entitled “If The World Was Crazy”. I was very surprised both P3 and P4 students were very thrilled to listen to it and they “forced” me to read it over and over. And this poem has become the most favorite. At this point, I realize that my students have shown a great interest in this activity. This means, as a teacher, I am more determined to boost this skill for all of them.Teaching is all about passion. If a teacher is passionate in teaching, then we will see students’ enthusiasm and spirit reflected on their face every time we enter the classroom.

The Best Way To Teach and Educate Children

The crew of Kinderfield Sudirman Park believe that teaching and educat-ing are noble task. Therefore to be a good teacher is not easy. A good teacher must possess hard skill and soft skill. Hard skill is related with knowl-edge. This is about what the teacher delivers to his children, as a good teacher is one who is knowlegable. Soft skill emphasizes on the emotional intellegence of a teacher. This is about how the teacher educates children with good values as a teacher is a role model to his children.

The crew of Kinderfield Sudirman Park are concerned about the importance of those two things by applying them hand in hand. In applying hard skill, teacher masters all the lessons that will be taught to the children. While in applying soft skill, teacher creates

a comfortable and warm atmosphere in the classroom. This is also important because by creat ing comfortable atmosphere, the teacher has attemped to help the children not only in absorbing lessons but also in learning value.

At conclusion, as an educator we cannot separate hard skill and soft skill in educating the children. A good teacher teaches and educates the children with his heart.

B o g o rBuilding responsibility since early age is the most important thing if we plan for happiness and success in our life. The students’ good character can be built from the teachers as their role model at school. In other words “you give respect, you get respect”. So later, the children can start to apply it outside the school.

Children learn from what they see and hear. As a mother and also as a teacher being a good role model is a must.

“Children Physical Exercise”

All children need love, encouragement and support. For children with learning difficulties such positive reinforcement can help ensure that they emerge with a strong sense of self-worth, confidence and the determination to keep going even when things get tough.

The teacher should observe the students and try to find things that can make the student interested in and should also learn what makes the student feels uncomfortable to. Therefore, he should be able to find the solution.

Teaching strategies to help the disabled students in learning:

For the teaching aids, we can use the “eye catching” objects. So, the student will be more focused to the lesson or topic given and could be more interested to the teacher’s explanations.

We use simple languages so that the students can understand our instructions.

We would ask the students to repeat the instructions given for a task to ensure that she/he understands about it and to gain some vocabularies that she/he has learnt at school.

“The teacher should observe the student and try to find out the

things that can arouse the student’s interested”

OtherOther than texture, the right blending of materials also allows for Simbalion COLOR GRADATION to be bright and distinct. Friends and fellow aspiring artists, here is a tip for creating beautiful oil pastel drawing. Many realistic drawing have gradations. What if we want to draw and paint thebeautiful cloud? beautiful cloud?

GrabGrab the 3 basic colors of cloud; dark blue, light blue, and white. Start coloring the edge of the cloud with dark blue, drawing in thin layers to allow for smooth gradation later on. Then, gradually switch to light blue. Use the light blue oil pastel to go over the thin layer of dark blue created before. Smudge the colorcolor surface with tissue paper to make it even smoother. Repeat the same process with white color over the light blue layer and voila, we‛ve got ourselves a nice 3 color gradation of a perfect blue cloud.

For more creative tips, videos and free doorprizes, check outfacebook at :

Everyone is familiar with oil pastels these days. Vibrant coloring sticks used by many artists of all ages. Oil pastels are simple to use, relatively clean compared to using paints, and can be used masterfully to make drawings and paintings as good as oil painting quality.

InIn this Simbalion Artistic Corner, let‛s find out more about oil pastels and the Simbalion qualities that make oil pastels a choice for many child artists.

InIn all the 50 years of making high quality yet affordable art materials for children and students around the world, Simbalion have reached high standards of safety shown by the universal certification by AP (American certification) and CE (European certification). Parents in all countries entrust their children with Simbalion entrust their children with Simbalion products knowing the brand speaks volumes in terms of RELIABILITY AND SAFETY.

Oil pastels are made of color pigments, non-dryingnon-drying oil, and wax. Simbalion‛s way of perfectly blending of these materials allow for our oil pastels to be just right in texture. Too soft and it will be too sticky to use and will leave dirt on the fingers. Too hard and it will be tiring for the hands if we have to draw for hours, especially when participating in competitions.in competitions.
