What do You do?

1. Envision your year at a glance.

2. Decide on the sequential path you would like to follow.

3. Ensure a balance among the main curriculum areas…content strands.

4. Choose one curriculum area with which to begin your planning (usually Social Studies or Science). Decide on the topics/themes you will cover and estimate the length of time you will need to complete the topic/theme.

5. Decide when you will address each of the topics/themes.

6. Consider the availability of resources and materials and possible human resources.

7. Look for links among various curriculum areas (integration).

8. Consider how school or district-wide planning will have an impact on your classroom long term plans.

9. Ensure that you have considered all curriculum area.

1. Begin with grouping expectations in each of the two curriculum.

2. Develop the big ideas/enduring understandings from the clustered expectations from each grade and look for those that match.

3. Plan to offer integrated units based on the common ideas/enduring understandings.

5. Consider those topics that cannot be integrated and decide when they will be delivered separately to each grade level.
