Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014
-
During the summer Glasgow was host to the 20th Commonwealth Games
Many of you would have attended the events or even just noticed the buzz in Glasgow :P
-
Despite some peoples’ preconceptions of Glasgow, the Games were a roaring success!
Many famous athletes came to Glasgow for the games, such as …
-
Usain Bolt
-
The Browlee Bros.
-
Louis Smith
-
But it was not always the gold medallists or
most famous competitors who achieved the most! There were many Scottish team members who inspired the nation:
The swimmer Erraid Davis won a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke final - at only 13 years old!
-
Eilidh Child was a huge inspiration at the Games. claiming silver in the 400m hurdles - despite being ill the morning of her race.
-
We saw courage and determination:
"It was so bad. I was like, 'How am I going to be able to run if I can't bend over to take my socks off?'. But somehow, there was another miracle." Scotland's Lynsey Sharp was on a drip at 5.30am in the morning, sick and barely able to move. Come the evening, she had won 800m track silver.
-
Postman and boxer Charlie Flynn triumphantly won the gold medal in the Men’s lightweight boxing final!
• "As my mate Kevin from the Royal Mail would say, I'm buzzing like a jar of wasps. The mail man has delivered once again!"
-
However, it was not just the competitors who made the Commonwealth Games great - it was the people of Glasgow, their support and involvement in the Games.
-
Even Prince Imran of the Commonwealth said these were the “best games ever,” and finished by saying Glasgow is,
‘PURE DEAD BRILLIANT!’
(We agree)
-
We hope you were inspired by the Games!
