It’s now very easy to make bolt holes stronger than the bolt or stud, even in aluminum. Cracked holes, stripped holes, weak holes, holes with broken taps or easy-outs—easily repaired. Holes that need to be sealed pressure tight—our inserts can do it. Spark plug holes, pipe thread holes and holes that have been drilled in the wrong locations—we have the fix. Repair Examples

GMT SULZER 8-Cylinder Engine This is a large 8-cylinder engine onboard a cruise ship. The repair was completed with no welding while the ship was in operation. The cause of the damage was a connecting rod failure. This repair took five weeks to complete while the ship was able to maintain its normal itinerary. Areas of damage repaired on this engine include:

• 2’ x 4’ hole in the side of the block • 10” x 14” hole in the cam box floor • Lower bore damage • Lower bore sleeve installed • Repair to the high pressure feed port for

the cam shaft bearing • Re-machining of the block side • Repair of numerous damaged bolt holes

This repair was completed in 2011 and the engine is still in service powering the cruise ship. We have permanently repaired numerous engines around the world. Those engines are still running today without any problems.




Refinery Compressor Case

This large compressor case was damaged by a connecting rod failure. The repair took two weeks to complete. The downtime was greatly reduced for the refinery since the availability of a new casting was months out. This repair utilized a combination of furnace brazing and metal stitching with the LOCK-N-STITCH products.




Hydro-electric Turbine Shell

This repair was completed with no teardown of the turbine. Cracks were repaired using the LOCK-N-STITCH products to provide additional strength. The unit was pressure-tight when finished. This repair is

another example of precious downtime and a considerable amount of money saved by our customer.




15,000lb Compressor Cylinder

This compressor cylinder was damaged while the liner was being replaced. A ¾” x 30” groove was cut by a torch, hardening the cast iron with the heat. Furnace brazing was the only way to repair the damage. The cylinder was preheated to 1000 deg. After being welded, it was cooled slowly to prevent cracking and hardening. The bore was machined to its original dimension and the unit was placed back into service. Our customer saved both time and money.

Broken Stud Repair

The damage pictured here was caused by the stud breaking below the surface. Once the Full-Torque® insert was installed, the casting was re-assembled and returned to service. Standard threads create radial spreading force on the casting. FT inserts contain that spreading force and make the bolt holes stronger than they were originally.




Large Cast Iron Pump Flange

This large flange was damaged when the wrong gasket was installed. The crack extended around more than half of the circumference. The damage was repaired and the pump was put back into service.
