Monitored Drift Tubes

•Gold plated Tungsten wire

•Voltage=3080V

•Radius=25 mumeters

•Stretched by 350g of tension

•Aluminum tube:

r (inner)= 1.46 cm r (outer) =1.5 cm

•Pressure =3 bar

•Gas Mixture: Argon=93.0%, CO2=7.0%

What do we analyze and why

Changes in the gas concentration can alter the drift velocity of the electrons in the drift tube

Therefore it is necessary to note the changes that can occur if the mixture within the tubes do change

The calibration chamber helps us do this

Calibration Chamber

The calibration chamber is connected to the pipes that carry the air mixture in and out of the drift tubes

Some of the gas from both the in pipe and the out pipe is bled into the calibration chamber and analyzed

What do we analyze and why

Water Contamination

Noryl is used at both ends of the drift tube to help protect the sense wire and also to pass on the information gathered to the scintillator

Noryl, however, has a certain amount of water in it, which can contaminate the gas mixture.

Water cannot be removed from the noryl otherwise cracking will occur.

What do we analyze and why

We also need to look at the different ways an increase in the concentration of either the Argon or the Carbon Dioxide gas can affect the RT function
