degenerative diseases of the joints that affect the knees, hips, and shoulders in older individuals occur due to wear and tear and the inability of the body to regenerate the worn-out tissues. For the same reason, inflammatory conditions like tendinitis and plantar fasciitis can be disabling in many older people. Free Yourself From Pain

For many people, pain can become so debilitat-ing that they turn to over-the-counter anti-inflam-matories, narcotics and even surgery. But, drugs and going under the knife aren’t the only option anymore. There’s a revolu-

When we are young, the body is able

to regenerate new cells and tissues to repair any damage or injury that oc-curs. As we age, the ability to regenerate new tissues becomes less efficient. This means when an older person suffers a debilitating injury or disease, return to an active lifestyle can be slow and challenging. Many

Reversing The Damage

Sometimes the body needs a little help revers-ing the damage caused by years of wear and tear. Regenerative Medicine boosts the body’s declin-ing ability to regenerate itself. Regenerative Medicine is not some-thing new. It’s been the buzzword in scientific cir-cles for more than three decades. The U.S. Depart-ment of Health & Human Resources has this to say: “Regenerative medicine WILL improve the quality of life. The therapies are innovative and expected

We are committed to not only impro-ving your pain, but also significantly impacting your overall well-being. Let’s talk about rejuvenation of the mind, body, and spirit!

We can now offer break-through, non-surgical treat-

ment options for individuals suffering from joint pain due

to degenerative conditions or other common joint injuries

to offer faster, more complete re-covery, with significantly fewer side effects or risk of complications.”

Healing Ourselves Better Perhaps you have heard of stem

cells, but you may not know that we all have stem cells and growth factors in our bodies. We can think of stem cells as a sort of army that gets called in wherever there’s dam-age. Stem cells heal injured bone, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, and other tissues. As we age, the regen-erative power of stem cells declines and enough of them cannot reach the damaged area. That’s where our therapy comes in. To solve this prob-

lem, we inject a high concentration of growth factors and other nutrients into the precise area of damage. This supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Fortunately, there’s very little down time with the procedure. And there is no need for a long and painful rehabilitation to regain strength and mobility, which is often necessary after joint surgery.

Getting To The Source We perform a comprehensive

analysis based on a detailed patient history. This helps identify the root cause of the problem causing the pain and disease. We then develop an individualized treatment plan with several options for applying different therapies. Our goal is to get to the source of the pain and not simply mask the problem by reliev-ing the symptoms. To this end, we use state-of-the-art diagnostics and cutting-edge treatments.

Expert Medical Team The highly experienced medical

team at Living Well Balanced are trained in advanced regenerative therapies. The team is led by a board-certified physician and each patient is assigned a nurse prac-titioner and care coordinator. We provide personalized care and cus-tomized treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each patient.

tissue-based products, called HCT/Ps, are rich in proteins, growth fac-tors and other unique repair-stim-ulating extracts. When these products are introduced into an area of injury or damage, they boost the body’s ability to heal itself.

Superb Quality at Every StepAt Living Well Balanced, we use HCT/Ps developed by a well-estab-lished and respected laboratory called Predictive Biotech. We have carefully chosen their products based on this lab’s extensive sci-entific expertise including proper techniques for collection, prepara-tion, and transport. At Living Well Balanced Holistic and Integra-tive Health Care, we have carefully chosen from the best science-based technology that extracts regenera-tive building blocks from donated human amniotic and umbilical cord donors to help regenerate and repair damaged tissues in the re-cipient. FDA-registered lab to ensure safety and effectiveness. They only use ethical products derived from heavily screened donated human tissues at the time of full-term de-liveries. These cells and tissues are called amniotic tissue allografts (an allograft is a tissue that is trans-ferred from a donor to a recipient).

What is unique about amniotic tissue allografts is that they are very rich in nutrients. We can think of them as power-packed mole-cules that can repair and recon-struct damaged and injured tissue. Because they are obtained from tissues such as the placenta and umbilical cord which are usually discarded at the time of birth, am-niotic tissue allografts do not raise

an ethical dilemma. And with their potential for tissue rejuvenation, these allografts are a revolutionary new treatment that could be a game changer in the management of in-jured and damaged joints and bones.

Self-Healing NutrientsThe game-changing regenerative treatments we offer could help you return to your previously active lifestyle possibly avoiding surgery. By using minimally manipulated human tissue allografts, like our Predictive Biotech AmnioCyte PLUS product, your body gets a kick start it could not do on its own .

Amniotic tissue allografts contain nutrients that can be categorized into three main types:

• Cytokine proteins that regulate cell communication

• Growth factors that stimulate cell growth and tissue repair

• Scaffolding factors that serve as a framework for rebuilding joints, bones, and other tissues

The nutrients in amniotic tissue allografts turbo charge the body’s ability to heal itself. They serve as building blocks that allow the body to repair damage faster and more efficiently than it could on its own.

Introducing Wharton’s JellyThere is one part of the umbilical cord tissue that is especially rich in reparative nutrients. It is called Wharton’s jelly and is a gelatinous substance that surrounds and pro-tects the blood vessels in the cord. Wharton’s jelly has a high concen-tration of growth factors that are essential to rebuild joints that have

been damaged by injury or years of wear and tear. Giving Wharton’s jelly to a damaged joint is like giving an energy bar to a tired person. It’s exactly what the joint needs to heal and rebuild itself.

Ethical Screening of Donors for Improved SafetyTo ensure product safety, Predictive Biotech conducts a comprehensive screening of donors. Both the moth-er and the father are screened for ge-netic disorders. Mothers who donate the umbilical cord and placenta undergo screening for contagious diseases. Blood tests are done to ensure no disease is present before childbirth. This ensures our patients do not contract a communicable disease from the donor.

Product Processing and StorageOur Predictive Biotech products are processed in an FDA-registered labo-ratory and cryopreserved (frozen) in liquid nitrogen. The liquid nitrogen tanks used to store the products maintain a temperature of -196 degrees Celsius. This is necessary to maintain the viability of the cyto-kine proteins and growth factors. All products are used within 48 hours of receipt and shipped from the labora-tory in liquid nitrogen containers.

Choosing the Right ProductWe do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to treatment. Our phy-sicians and medical team have extensive experience in determining your unique needs. The HCT/Ps we recommend are chosen based on the cytokine proteins, growth and scaffolding factors they contain and what your body needs. By choosing the right product for you, we provide your body with exactly what it needs to become healthy and whole again.

PATIENT STORY LIVING WELL BALANCED

They took him back in, tried to treat the infection, and then did another knee replacement. That one didn’t do very well either and had to be taken out. This man ended up with nothing between his upper and lower leg other than those bars. “I think they’re going to amputate my leg,” he said. That’s when Coleen decided she would never get surgery. She sim-ply learned to live with the pain. She tried rehab, nutrition (glu-cosamine/chondroitin), and hyalu-ronic acid injections. But nothing helped. At the time, she was in her 20s. She couldn’t run. She couldn’t sit cross-legged on the floor with her kids. She had difficulty going up and down stairs. Squatting was out of the question. And she couldn’t dream of wearing high heels. For three decades, Coleen dealt with it because she had no choice. But it controlled her life. Then, two and a half years ago, now in her 50s, she learned about this new treatment for joint pain. It was non-invasive and she heard such good things about it that she decided to give it a shot. She got an injection,

Here’s a story from a regenerative medicine patient. Coleen, a 54-year-old physical therapist, was born with shal-

low femoral grooves. This meant that her kneecap could pop out of the joint very easily. By the age of 25, she had dislocated each knee more than 20 times. She had severe arthritis in both knees. An ortho-pedic surgeon told her she needed immediate surgery. “We need to go in and clean it up,” he said. He also told her that when she was older, in her 40s or 50s, she would need knee replacement surgery. Shortly after her own orthopedic consultation, she saw a patient who had come to her for PT after knee replacement. One day, he stopped coming in, and it wasn’t because of the therapy. When she saw him again, he was sitting in a wheel-chair with bars sticking out of his leg. When she asked this man what was going on, he told her he’d had an infection, which had prevented him from coming in for therapy.

and one week after the treatment, she noticed there was some inflam-mation in her knees, but nothing very painful. A couple of weeks later, she was in the supermarket with her 85-year-old mother who was trying to put a case of water into the bottom of the cart. Coleen squatted down and pushed it in. Both she and her mother looked at each other in surprise. “How did you just do that?” said her mother. And just like that, she could squat! Soon after, she started exercising, then running. Coleen now runs three or four days a week. She can squat pain-free and she says she feels 95 percent better. It’s been two and a half years and she’s had no problems. She says it feels like she never had a problem in her knees. She can’t believe how different her life is now because of the regenerative medi-cine treatment.

CASE STUDY LIVING WELL BALANCED OUR SUCCESS STORIES

Description: Philip is a 35-year-old avid runner who came to Living Well Balanced after being rear-ended in a car accident. After a thorough diagnostic exam which included range of motion, In-Body testing, digital postural assessments and x-rays, we found more than just neck pain from the car accident. We noticed quite a bit of rounding in his shoulders and severe forward head and pelvic car-riage. Philip’s x-rays showed noticeable dysfunction and spinal stiffness throughout his cervical and lumbar spine. Finally, after a comprehensive fitness and flexibility assessment, our Personal Trainer found a weakening and instability of his core along with knee deviation and inflexible hips, neck and shoulders which we believe were exacerbated by prolonged sitting at his desk and inadequate strength training for his abdominals and legs.

Symptoms: 1 week after Philip’s car accident he experienced noticeable stiffness developing in his neck and found it difficult to turn his head.

Care Plan: We created a comprehensive, custom tailored care plan for Philip, which entailed the following:

• Initial Care Plan (6-weeks) - Chiropractic Adjustments 2 times a week, Massage Therapy once a week, and Stretching twice a month

• Corrective Care Plan - Chiropractic Adjustments 2 times a month, Massage Therapy 2 times a month, Stretching once a month and Personal Training 3 times a week.

Results: Philip’s neck issue was alleviated within the first two weeks of care (during his initial care plan) and was soon able to turn his head with more ease, less pain and increased his range of mo-tion. After working with him on strength and flexibility, in addition to the chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy and stretching, Philip’s posture made drastic changes. Furthermore, there were significant changes in his InBody tests - a decrease in body fat, increase of lean muscle mass and his hydration levels were greatly improved. He’s pain free, stronger, more flexible and more importantly, healthier!

Philip’s Story: Living Well Balanced was recommended to me after I was rear-ended in a car ac-cident. I had bad whiplash and could barely move my neck at all. I had never been to a chiropractor before but knew I had to do something for this injury. After a thorough evaluation with Dr. Prakash, we set up a personalized treatment plan involving adjustments, massages, and stretching.

It worked wonders for me. I was able to move my head a little better after each massage and I have got-ten to a point where I am now pain free with a full range of motion restored to my neck. Since healing from my accident, I have been doing personal training which has improved my overall fitness level. As a runner, it has helped open up my stride and has improved my race times.

Everyone at Living Well Balanced sincerely cares about making a difference and they have the skills to help you be your best. Not only do they do a great job explaining everything, they make you feel like family. They are some of the nicest and friendliest people I’ve met. I always look forward to my time here and always leave feeling better than when I came in.

Whether you’ve been injured or are just looking to improve your overall well-being, they will make a huge difference in your life. I can’t recommend Living Well Balanced enough.

Description: Brenna Hux had been living with chronic neck and back pain for over ten years and after a cervical fusion and decompression surgery in June of 2015, it left her still dealing with not only her initial neck pain but new issues that arose as a result of the fusion. She had also been experiencing issues with sinus, allergies and digestion. After detailed assessments that included a computerized Postural exam, InBody analysis, Range of Motion and Fitness assessments we concluded that not only did Brenna require extensive therapy to correct musculoskeletal patterns that had developed as a result of compensating from knee and lower back issues, in addition she needed to rebuild stamina to maintain her active lifestyle and retrain her body to move properly.

Symptoms: Brenna would often experience unexplained “blackouts” that occurred after her surgery that would begin with an odd sensation in her neck and after each episode would leave her bed-ridden for days, sometimes up to a week along with daily stiffness in her upper body and shoulders and an inability to move her neck without pain.

Care Plan: We custom tailored a plan for Brenna that entailed the following:Initial Care Plan (6 months)- Chiropractic Adjustments 2 times a week, Massage Therapy once a week, Stretching 2 times a month and Personal Training twice a week. In addition to the above-mentioned services, we also recommended:

• Omega 3 Fatty Acid supplement to decrease inflammation and Allerplex supplement to manage allergies

• Cervical traction to restore normal lordosis (curve) in her cervical spine• Orthotics to correct foot, knee and hip deviations• Posture Bands to help correct rounded shoulder and forward head carriage

After her 3 month Progress Exam, Brenna was able to transition into a corrective care plan consisting of:

• Chiropractic Adjustments once a week, Massage Therapy 2 times a month, Stretching twice a month, and Personal Training twice a week

• Continued supplementation of Omega 3’s• Continued use of orthotics and in-home cervical traction

Results: After being a part of our approach to holistic healthcare for 1 year, Brenna’s posture trans-formed, her excessive forward-head carriage, knee and lower back pain were significantly decreased along with her rounded shoulder posture. The unexplained “blackouts” have stopped entirely, the Range of Motion in her neck and shoulders have greatly increased. Her sinus, allergy and digestive is-sues have also been resolved. Brenna can move her neck more freely without fear of reinjuring herself and noticed great improvements in her overall strength and flexibility. She is finally able to live a life of a quality!

Brenna’s Story: When I started my journey with Living Well Balanced I had been dealing with chron-ic neck and back pain for over ten years. I had visited several Chiropractors, Physicians, and physical therapists hoping to find a fix to this pain I was dealing with. Eventually I ended up having a cervical fusion and decompression surgery in June of 2015. Not long after recovering from surgery I realized that was not the answer. When I started my journey with Living Well Balanced I had been dealing with chronic neck and back pain for over ten years. I had visited several Chiropractors, Physicians, and physical therapists hoping to find a fix to this pain I was dealing with. Eventually I ended up having a cervical fusion and decompression surgery in June of 2015. Not long after recovering from surgery I realized that was not the answer. Not only was I still dealing with pain but now new issues arose as a result of the fusion.

A year later I pretty much told myself that this was going to be what the rest of my life felt like. At that point I thought I had tried everything possible and there just wasn’t a fix for me. I have always lived a very active lifestyle as a horse trainer and managing a large farm. I had decided to cut way back and possibly even quit riding horses.

My massage therapist Cate recommended I give LWB a try. After meeting with Dr Prakash I started a life changing program that has transformed me in many positive ways. The staff is like no other I’ve ever encountered. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly. It doesn’t matter what kind of day you have had when you leave you are going to have a smile on your face. I feel I am part of a team that really cares about helping others feel better and achieve whatever goals you might have. I do not feel like just another number in a room full of therapists that are just going through the motions like robots. They sincerely care about their clients.

Dr Prakash’s adjustments are unique and provide so many benefits to the body. I felt an instant relief of neck and back pain etc. along with digestion and sinus relief. When you walk out of his adjustment room you not only feel pain relief but his great personality leaves a lasting impression. I also work with an incredible personal trainer that has done wonders for my health. I do 30 minute workouts twice a week and stretching twice a month. Wes’s passion and knowledge about fitness, health and how the body works is inspiring. My weekly massage sessions with Cate are nothing short of amazing. She is so aware of everything my body needs. I always walk out feeling relieved of pain, tension, and stress.

I honestly can’t say enough wonderful things about my experience at LWB. I feel like I’ve gotten a second chance to enjoy my life without dealing with constant pain. I feel physically and mentally stronger than I’ve ever felt. I have a new found confidence because I know I don’t have to worry about if I push myself physically I might ending up flat on my back. I have many goals I still want to accomplish and I know that I am now part of a team that can help me continue this journey of a pain free happy life. So I am beyond thankful for this entire staff helping me to continue to live my dream as a horse trainer. I wish everyone could experience this place like I have. It is truly life changing!

HOLISTIC & INTEGRATIVE HEALTH CARE CASE STUDYOUR SUCCESS STORIES

Description: Sarah came to Living Well Balanced initially complaining of carpel tun-nel syndrome and back and shoulder blade pain as well as increased heart rate and issues with both, allergies and asthma. After her initial evaluation including diagnos-tic x-rays (June 2018) we determined that her structural dysfunctions were the cause of her back pain and carpel tunnel syndrome. Through Range of Motion, Palpation and computerized Postural assessments we found that Sarah needed to improve her spinal health, muscle flexibility and strengthen her back to help correct her structural dysfunction which would decrease her pain.

Symptoms: Carpel Tunnel - experienced pain in elbow, middle finger and ring finger, mostly felt on the right side. Back and Shoulder Blade issues - throbbing, pin-point pain felt mostly in the right shoulder blade, unexplained increase in heart rate along with allergy and asthmatic issues.

Care Plan: Sarah was put on an initial 4-month plan that included:

• Chiropractic Adjustments twice a week, Massage Therapy once a week and Stretching twice a month

• Omega 3 Fatty Acid and Turmeric supplementation to help decrease inflam-mation

• Cervical traction and pillow to restore normal lordosis (curve) in her cervical spine

After her Progress Exam, Sarah was able to transition into a maintenance/prevention plan consisting of:

• Chiropractic Adjustments once a week, Massage Therapy and Stretch twice a month and continued use of cervical traction and pillow

• Continued supplementation of Omega 3’s and Turmeric

Results: It was clear after Sarah’s progress exam and x-rays how much difference our holistic approach to healthcare made. Not only were her back, shoulder and carpal tunnel symptoms much better, her heart rate normalized and she noticed improvements with her asthma. In addition, her posture and flexibility improved and there were impressive changes in her thoracic (mid-back) x-rays, an 18 degree change to be exact!

ANKUR PRAKASH, DCFounder of Living Well Balanced

The most influential role models in my personal and professional life were my parents — constantly instilling these values in me: to give love, to be of service, to have gratitude, to enjoy hard work, and to achieve higher education. They have always taught me to laugh and love and give without any expectation of reward. These values are instilled at my core and inspire me to live a life with one sole purpose —to create solutions for people.

While in college at the University of Maryland, I worked as a Chiropractic Assistant for a local Chiropractor. It was here that I first discovered and developed my purpose and passion for serving people through chiropractic. After completing a degree in Psychology, I began chiropractic school in 2000 at Life Chiropractic College West and received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2004. I left chiropractic school with the goal and drive to help people reduce stress, naturally. I wanted to create an atmosphere that provided people and their communities the resources, accountability and tools to allow them to live longer, healthier lives that are less dependent on drugs and surgeries. And that is exactly what I did! I opened my first practice in New York in 2004, and now, my second location here in Raleigh, North Carolina.

STEVE KENION, LMBT

Massage Therapist

I’m 36 years old and I’ve been married to my beautiful wife for 4 years and 8 months. We just recently increased our family to 3 with our baby boy Landon Phillip Kenion! I have been working as a massage therapist for the last 10 years. This career is a passion for me and I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world. I love helping others achieve their goals and gain more confidence in their body’s ability to function on a daily basis. Looking forward to learning new techniques in the near future, so I can continue to grow and become the best possible therapist I can be.

Hey there! I’m Meghan. I was born on Long Island and moved to North Carolina when I was young. As I went through high school I was a sickly person. Tired of going to the doctor monthly, I decided to heal myself from the inside out to start a better life. I started learning how to eat to be healthier and more natural remedies to heal illness. Always wanting to help people, I decided to go to college to be a massage therapist. Through the last 10 years of my career, I’ve learned more about people, the body and how toheal naturally allowing myself and my clients to live a happier healthier life! Becoming a part of Living Well Balanced has allowed me to live my passion and continue on my holistic healthcare journey.

My heart fills to take care of people but I also have a 3-year old named Dilynn that I love spending time with and proudly raise us-ing natural remedies. I love to spend time outdoors and have many plans for future travels. I love the beach, wine and doughnuts.

JOEY BAKER, LMBT#10637

Massage Therapist

I’ve always believed in health through nutrition and movement. Bodywork has been a great way to get things in your body that don’t want to move, to start moving. In doing so we can maintain the body’s design and function. It’s a process with results that continue to fascinate and inspire me.

CATE FISHER, LMBT#13597

Massage Therapist

I got my start in massage therapy when I received my very first massage when I was 15 years old. I had been experiencing hot, burning, stinging, and radiating pain in my neck for about a year. I had a friend who had attended a massage program and after our initial session I was pain free for 2 weeks! I was sold. I graduated from The Medical Arts School in Raleigh in September 2013, and I haven’t looked back since.

I specialize in sports and corrective care modalities, along with medical cupping. I am also very fond of tacos, baseball and dogs. Massage therapy has been a life changing choice and it is my ulti-mate goal to further the education and well-being of others.

I graduated from Florida State University in 2000 with a Bachelor’s in nursing. My husband, Roger, and I LOVE to travel, snowboard, camp, hike, and go to the beach. My soul is happiest being outdoors and being one with nature. My passion for the outdoors goes back to my childhood when my dad would take my 4 siblings and I outdoors any chance he had. I grew up in a military family and was born in Germany, which is where my urge to travel began. As a registered nurse I focused my career in Pediatric Intensive Care and was able to do travel nursing for 5 years. I have worked in children’s hospitals all over the United States. I worked in the Pediatric ER at Wake Med for 8 years and my last position was as the Director of Nursing for a homecare agency in Raleigh. During my years as a nurse I was always drawn to the natural side of medicine and believe that the building blocks of health start with nutrition and proper treatment of the body.

I started working out as most people do - to get fit and build muscle, but it was never easy for me. Along the way I got injured time and time again, after a while this forced me to change my philosophies about training and exercise; I learned there was such a thing as training smart and science to support it. This in turn led me to de-velop a huge passion for studying human movement and adeep understanding that how moving badly (or not at all) is the root cause for nearly every physical ailment, dysfunction and injury we deal with —but most importantly that how correcting bad movement patterns is a fundamental aspect of fixing and healing them.

As a trainer I believe that proper movement should compromise of the bones and muscles functioning together which in greater fitness and health can be built, after all exercising and training with dysfunction will only serve to grow stronger dysfunction. Together at Living Well Balanced we can correct dysfunction and improves one’s ability to achieve their goals and improve their lives.

NIKKI JONESBilling Manager

It was through a casual conversation with Dr. Prakash that I came back to medical billing after taking a break. In 2013, after more than 10 years of medical billing, I moved abroad to China for a year to teach English. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Once I came home, I decided I only wanted jobs where I enjoyed myself. After returning from China and a coworker introduced me to Living Well Balanced, first as patient and now as an employee. I am so fortunate to have jobs that are so much fun and that I enjoy coming to everyday.
