Designed to get the most out of your SUBARU BOXER engine and Symmetrical AWD, the ef f icient Linear tronic Continuously Variable Transmission keeps the engine in i t s ideal power range to give the Outback i t s class- leading fuel consumption. Shif t controls keep the r ide light, smooth and responsive on both the 2.5-li tre and 3.6-li tre engines, whils t the Linear tronic in 3.6R-S also handles the higher-torque output with less mechanical noise for a smoother, quieter drive. The shif t controls have a s tepped variable control that s tays in tune with changes in vehicle speed and engine speed, allowing the driver to feel shif t points when accelerating to form a s trong and comfor table connec tion between car and driver.

Control leads to conf idence, and s tabili t y creates an agili t y that excites in the Outback. Subaru vehicles are gif ted at inspir ing conf idence behind the wheel, thanks to the inherently s table design of Symmetrical AWD paired with the uniquely balanced SUBARU BOXER engine.This sys tem delivers power to all four wheels at all t imes for enhanced control on all roads and in poor condit ions. I t has excellent side-to-sidebalance and handling precision, thanks to i t s main components being aligned longitudinally, whils t i t s low centre of gravit y creates an especially engaging and responsive drive. The unique advantages of Symmetrical AWD make for exceptionally rewarding handling and empower you to bet ter avoid danger.

SYMMETRICAL ALL-WHEEL DRIVE

Because the engine block has a f lat ter prof ile and si t s lower in the chassis, the overall vehicle is more s tably balanced and resis tant to side-to-side motion than other designs.

The engine’s f lat design is inherently r igid and self-balancing to achieve durabili t y and reliable per formance, generating less vibration than V-t ype or 4-cylinder in- line engines in the same class.

Few other cars drive with the self-assured confidence of the Outback,

so you won’t be surprised by how uniquely it is accomplished.

The horizontally opposed configuration of the SUBARU BOXER engine

places the pistons 180 degrees apart, for a lower, flatter profile than

other engine types. This gives the engine, and therefore the overall

vehicle, a lower centre of gravity and better sense of balance.

Further, the pistons’ opposing movements inherently counteract each

other, naturally helping to reduce vibration.

Vehicle Dynamics Control Sys tem monitors and analyses i f the vehicle is following the driver ’s intended course via an array of sensors. I f a t yre slips or a high-speed turn moves the vehicle of f i t s intended path, the AWD torque dis tr ibution, engine output and brakes at each wheel are adjusted to assis t in keeping the vehicle on course.

When cornering, Ac tive Torque Vec toring applies the brakes and dis tr ibutes less torque to the inside wheels and more torque to the outside wheels. I t helps make sharp turns and handling more precise. In combination with the Vehicle Dynamics Control Sys tem, i t helps to keep you out of harm’s way, granting you a comfor ting sense of securit y.

Subaru Rear Vehicle Detec tion (SRVD) uses sensors placed around the vehicle to aler t you of vehicles in your rear blind spots for safer lane changes, and can also warn you of potential collision danger, whils t driving in reverse into a s treet with cross traf f ic .

High Beam Assis t increases visibili t y and safet y when driving at night by toggling the Outback's high beams on and of f automatically, depending on driving condit ions.

Ever y Subaru goes above and beyond common prac tice when i t comes to your safet y. In the event of a head-on collision, your Outback ’s SUBARU BOXER engine and gearbox are designed to avoid moving into the cabin for your protec tion.

Adjustable for both height and angle, head restraints are designed to accommodate passengers of dif ferent sizes and comfor t preferences.

Front SRS*3 airbags, f ront side SRS*3 airbags, cur tain SRS*3 airbags, and knee SRS*3 airbags come s tandard on the Outback to give all passengers a higher level of protec tion in the event of a collision.

The Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame s trengthens the passenger cabin from the roof to the doors, pillars and f loor. This design helps to diver t and dissipate impac t energy away from the occupants in a collision. I t also contr ibutes to s trengthening and lightening the chassis, leading to greater, reinforced protec tion.
