2. BUNTING!
You may recall Sandra suggesting back in April that we make some bunting to be used at the U3A day and other significant events. She would be interested to know how many members are having a go at this, so please would you contact her at [email protected] and let her know if you are having a go.

CHOIR
The choir have been keeping in touch individually and through the weekly quizzes. One of the recent quizzes was designated as a fundraiser for Christian Aid in lieu of the annual house to house collection that couldn’t happen. The quiz was distributed widely and raised £680, which was more than the envelope collection usually makes. Martin Luke adds, mercifully we have avoided doing a get together sing-song on Zoom.

4. Virtual Quiz Feed-back
The fourth quiz by email on Thursday 23rd April was set by Mo & Graham Chamberlain Congratulations to our winners - Team Wiggans We had 22 teams comprising 56 people taking part. Make a date in your diary for the next two quizzes on Thursday 4th June at 1:00pm and Thursday 18 June at 1:00pm It will be the same format as before. The questions will be emailed at 1:00pm with the answers following at around 3:30pm. Now that we can meet up to 6 people in our gardens I am hoping that the weather will enable more of you to arrange teams. A reminder / invitation will be sent out to all U3A members a couple of days before – so get your teams ready. In the meantime something to keep your brains working.

6. Barrie’s Photo Challenge 4
Original Image 3
Challenge 3 was along the canal from Canal Street looking
towards Oak Terrace off Ealees Road. The clues were the canal,
Oak Terrace and you can just see the lock-keepers cottage left of
Oak Terrace.
Brian Porter identified the spot.

Try this one. It might be a challenge as the only building still there is the one on the extreme
right. Can you place it?

7. Contributions from members
Here is a bit of anonymous nonsense from Martin Luke:
‘Twas an evening in November, As I very well remember, I was strolling down the street in drunken pride, But my knees were all a-flutter, So I landed in the gutter, And a pig came up and lay down by my side. Yes, I lay there in the gutter, Thinking thoughts I could not utter, When a colleen passing by did softly say: "Ye can tell a man that boozes By the company he chooses.' At that the pig got up and walked away! ***** Twas in the month of Liverpool, In the city of July, The snow was raining heavily, The streets were very dry, The flowers were sweetly singing, The birds were in full bloom, As I went down to the cellar, To clean an upstairs room. ***** I eat my peas with honey I’ve done all my life. It makes the peas taste funny, But keeps then on the knife

I love this one from Roger Crossley,
who wrote: If you want a bit of
colour for the next newsletter here is
a photo taken at High Lea farm Shore
recently. I thought it very inventive.
And Phillip Liston got quite a shock when
this young lamb peered over his garden wall!
(possibly not as great a shock as the lamb got!!)
…and room for one more from yours truly!!
