    LISTINGthe Components for Leadership

LIST components & furniture GmbH is an Austrian company specialising in the production of high-end quality furniture found on land, sea and in the air. A family owned company, the brand main source of income springs from aircraft and yachting furniture; although there are also other specialised divisions found within LIST. Speaking with Ms. Katharina List-Nagl, Sophie Roche explores the companys plans for future growth and its dedication to innovation.

The brand is committed to promoting sustainable development. Its entrepreneurial spirit, instilled by its founder Mr. List (Ms. List-Nagls grandfather), has resulted in realised visions and market leadership. Its family based roots have ensured good internal communication; which in turn has secured growth for the brand, now on the 3rd generation of LIST family management. Founded in the 1950s by Mr. List and expanded by his three sons; according to Ms. List-Nagl, the company vowed to remain one step ahead, resulting in a pioneering product range. Following this principle, LIST has grown organically to become an innovative producer of

premium furniture for a range of industries.

Markets and InnovationAccording to Ms. List-Nagl, orders have never arrived so frequently for the company and the brand is receiving interest from a host of customers. Throughout the economic crisis, LIST has continued to do well; however Ms. List-Nagl points out that some changes were noticed. Byways of orders, smaller aircrafts furniture orders became noticeably reduced during the recession; whilst with larger business aircraft, such as Bombardiers Global Express, orders even increased. As LIST mostly manufactures for yachts

larger than 80 metres, no variation in order capacity was experienced here either, as the yachts are so large. Currently, the companys order book is brimming and it has become so in demand that LIST is in the process of building a new plant in Lower Austria. The construction of these premises began in November 2011. They will cover 10 000 square metres and contain all the latest technology, state-of-the-art machinery and 200 extra craftsmen. The plant is expected to reach completion in 2012 and will increase LISTs production, whilst also ensuring products of the highest specification. Ms. List-Nagl is eager to continued on page 00 S

emphasise the importance of these new premises; she feels it will convey the companys confidence in the industry and reflect to LISTs clients how committed the brand is to producing top-of-the-range specialised furniture. LIST is behind the industry and the industrys products; its large investment into a new plant reinforces this.

Turnover, Research and DevelopmentLIST components & furniture is a subsidiary of the LIST Group. The LIST Group itself boasted 60 million in 2011 and expects to achieve 110 million over the next five years. Its subsidiary, LIST components & furniture, is a very successful division of the Group and singularly generated 34 million in 2011. This sector of the LIST Group is on track to double this by the year 2016. Within LIST components & furniture, the sectors offering the highest contribution to this turnover are yachts and aircraft; with LIST believing that the aircraft market will continually increase and the yachting division will remain consistently successful. To comply will the companys projected expansion LIST invests heavily into its research and development department. It is a sector of the company which is integral to its future success, as it ensures that products remain pioneering and LIST continues to be a leader in the aircraft and yachting furniture markets. This department has been increasingly invested into throughout the crisis; with 7 percent of the brands turnover being fed back into this department. Currently, one of the main focuses of the departments attention is its INAIRVATION project. This project is being developed with three other leading companies; Lufthansa Technik,

(with the independent business unit Innovation, for initially high-end CMS/IFE systems for VIP completions), Design Q (design consultancy specialising in the design, engineering, and prototype construction of aircraft, automotive and marine interiors) and SCHOTT Lighting and Imaging (product portfolio includes general illumination, ambient scenario and seat illumination, and innovative optical fibres combined with LED based light source solutions). Together they hope to revolutionise the way cabin systems are integrated into aircrafts. One element of this project is the integration of stone into aircraft veneers and flooring; an idea that has not been carried out previously, thanks to the weight restrictions of an aircraft. Ideas such as these will revolutionise the aircraft industry and propel the three companies into market domination.

Surface CoatingA core attraction for customers of LIST is its surface coating service. This is

completed in-house toAvoid, as far as possible, typical problems such as scuffing and other wear-and-tear problems; to result in a flawless finish. The technique is sophisticated and advanced, whilst being continually researched and developed to comply with the high expectations of LISTs customers. The dexterity of LIST is evident in every product. LIST prides itself on being pioneers of the high quality furniture industry. Ms. List-Nagl is confident of the brands exquisite quality of product and feels certain that the company can continue to do great things.
