A Weekly Newsletter for The Sanctuary Choir of First Baptist Church
Put your name on the line. Please!!! Two sign up lists are available tonight. Please be sure to put your name on both of
them.
The first list is for the March 6 “Luncheon Rehearsal.” This is the Sunday before
Mardi Gras so, we are planning a „Nawlins style lunch following the morning wor-
ship service in the Fellowship Hall. Then “stroll” on over to a concentrated, Easter
music only rehearsal at 1:00 p.m. We will finish by 3:00 p.m. This is the only
“Luncheon Rehearsal” we are having and Good Friday is just nine (9) weeks
away!!!!
The other list tonight is to help feed the guest choir before their concert March 13.
This does not need to be a heavy meal since the Choir will be singing soon after.
They ask that the meal be served 90 minutes prior to the concert. We will also need
help serving and cleaning up. I want this to be an experience they will never forget.
Many of my former students still talk about the host churches and their hospitality. I
want to show them what real “Southern” hospitality is. Let‟s do this right!
On a Personal Note. Despite the “Senior Moment” or was it “Moments” of your director, I want to say
what a beautiful job you did with He’s Always Been Faithful this past Sunday. I
honestly do not know what was going on with me. The day started out like any
other Sunday, however, it did not continue that way. I am very grateful for your
support and understanding. It was through your singing that gave me strength to
continue. Thank you!
I appreciate the words that Bro. Matt said at the end of “my melt down,” I mean at
the end of the service. He did not have to do anything. He could have just gone on
with the task at hand. Besides, he wasn‟t the one seeing himself as the witch, at the
end of the Wizard of OZ. Instead, he chose to say something publically that he has
said many times privately, “I appreciate what you are doing.” That brought true
comfort to my day.
What I do cannot be done without people like you. So,
thank you for your encouragement and participation in
what I do. Let‟s continue to do it together.
With love and prayers!

and black pants.
Interesting, but useless trivia!
Last week‟s trivia question was:
In the early 1800s, cowboys from Argentina were called “gauchos.”
The gauchos invented a snack that people today can buy in any con-
venience store. What snack did they invent? Was it:
A. Potato chips
B. Beef jerky
C. Roasted peanuts
Answer:
B—Gauchos invented beef jerky! They put strips of raw meat under
their saddles in the mornings. By the end of the day‟s ride, the heat
and rubbing of their saddles had tenderized and cooked the meat.
That called it “charqui,” which we now say as “jerky!”
Host Homes Needed: We are hosting The Voices of Ap-
palachia Choir from Alice Lloyd
College on March 13th and we
need host homes!
Currently we only have homes
for 16-20 students.
We need to house 35. Please let me or Erin know if you
can help.

Displacement is one
of those scientific
principles we learned
in high school. It‟s the
reason your full bath
overflows when you
get in it. Or the reason
a ship will float. But
this week I learned
another application for this principle
that really impacted me.
The example used was a glass of
clear clean water. The speaker took
the glass of water and began to pour
various things into it like mustard,
vinegar, hot sauce, etc. Each item rep-
resented a sin that we could fall into:
anger, envy, lust, greed, etc. And as
he poured each item into the glass, it
forced a little more of the clean water
out until eventually all that was left
was a nasty cocktail full of all these
“sins”.
“Now”, he said, “let‟s try and get
just the anger (hot sauce) out”. Obvi-
ously it was impossible to remove any
one “sin” from the glass. Everything
was mixed together. “So how can we
get back to our clean glass of water?”
he asked.
Here‟s where our displacement
theory comes into play. The only way
to get the “sin” out of the glass was to
pour in more clean water. As the
speaker poured pitcher after pitcher of
clean water into the glass, it eventu-
ally forced out all the impurities until
finally it was once again a clear clean
glass of water.
So what‟s the spiritual meaning?
The way that we become more like
Christ is not by trying to get all the
bad stuff out of our lives. I‟ve been
down this road and ultimately you‟ll
end up failing to change or simply
exchanging one sin for another.
No, the way to lasting change is
by filling ourselves continually with
the Holy Spirit of God. The bible tells
us that light and dark cannot exist to-
gether. The same way that sin grieves
the Spirit, the Holy Spirit grieves sin!
When we repent, confess and allow
ourselves to be filled with the Spirit,
the sin in our lives has to go.
But we are leaky vessels. We need
to be as the Scripture says
“continually filled with the Holy
Spirit”. How about getting on your
knees today, confessing your sin and
asking the King of Kings to fill you
with his clean and clear Spirit? It‟s
our only hope of lasting change. —by Jimi Williams

God’s Promise from Psalm 32:8 (NCV)
“I will make you wise and show you where to go. I will guide you and watch
over you..”
What Does This Mean For Me?
When you feel confused and unsure of what is right or wrong, ask God for
help! He has given you the Bible to help you, and it‟s a great place to start
when you‟re looking for God‟s guidance.
