Look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!’” (John 12:12-15). Initially, his disciples did not understand all this. But those who were with Jesus when he called Lazarus out of the grave continued to testify. So the crowd grew larger and larger. There was tension in the air. Even the Pharisees were overwhelmed at how this Jesus was stirring up the whole world. In a matter of days, everything changed! Just weeks ago I stood on the Mount of Olives along with a number of Belin members. We looked at the city of Jerusalem. We even walked the Palm Sunday path and thought about the fickleness of the crowds. “Not so fast,” I remember saying to the group. “Be careful about condemning the crowd!” The truth is that I am reminded often of my own vacillations with Jesus, the Son of God. I am mindful that I easily declare that he is Lord, but then I sometimes deny his existence by the way I live or the things I say. I know that I readily wave my hands in praise and celebration, but then I also raise my hands in frustration, pain, and hardship over the challenges of life. Like a palm laid down in his path and soon forgotten, the honor I give to Jesus this Sunday can be abandoned easily by the middle of next week. Let us be careful about condemning the crowd that welcomed Jesus and then rejected him. During this Palm Sunday and the subsequent events of Holy Week, let us reflect over our own fickleness. The truth is that we do waffle between devotion and rejection. But let us never forget his love for us. Indeed, his love for each of us is much stronger than our faithlessness. Salkehatchie Mission Trip This June, Belin will send 61 youth and adults to Rivertown (Conway) and Summerville Salkehatchies! Donations of Gatorade and water (12-20 oz. single serving size) are requested to help keep us hydrated while working on our sites. Please place donations in FLC Lobby any time between now and June 11. As we receive donations, we will stack them in the High School classroom and watch a wall of Gatorade and water grow. When we meet for Sunday school and Youth Group, this will be a visual reminder of how much our church supports youth and missions. Financial contributions are also requested as registration fees do not cover all the costs needed to renovate the homes and scholarships. Our goal is to raise at least $8,000. BLESSING OF THE INLET IS A PROUD SPONSOR OF THE WOUNDED WARRIOR PROJECT

Belin Memorial United Methodist Church is very pleased to

announce that we will be a proud sponsor of the Wounded Warrior

Project (WWP) at the 2015 Blessing of the Inlet.

The Wounded Warrior

Project is a veterans service

organization, founded in

2003, in Roanoke, Virginia

by a group of veterans and

friends who took action to

help the injured service

men and women of this

generation. It offers a

variety of programs,

services, and events for

wounded veterans of the

military actions following

the events of September

11, 2001.

More than 52,000 servicemen and women have been injured in the recent military conflicts. In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The 20 programs and services provided by WWP are uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.

Belin’s own Boy Scout Troop 396 will be assisting in our proud sponsor activities by distributing pertinent printed information about the WWP and offering “reminder bracelets” in support of the WWP.

The offering collected at the11:30 AM Blessing of the Inlet Ceremony on May 2 will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. As you stop by the Scout booth for a pizza snack, be sure to inquire about the Wounded Warrior Project. Pick up an info sheet about this worthy cause, perhaps offer a donation, and receive your WWP “reminder bracelet.”

More information about the Wounded Warrior Project may be found by visiting the website at www.woundedwarriorproject.org

or by calling WWP at 1-877-832-6997.

Choosing to Serve

Stewards of Time, Talents, Gifts, Service, and Witness

“Choosing to Serve” is our theme as we begin to recruit volunteers to give of their time at Belin Memorial. For sure, the numerous ministries of our great church are made possible through your participation.

To facilitate your involvement in all that goes on here, we will be receiving your indication in the near future as to where you would like to share your time, passion, and interest.

Your Stewardship Team has resolved to improve our recruitment process this year in its timing and in the dissemination of information collected to more effectively engage our membership in areas of their interest.

We will begin our volunteer recruitment in April and have already contacted leaders in areas where volunteers are needed to make sure that we understand the needs. We have received specific requests from people in certain ministries and have revamped the process that will put volunteer names directly into the hands of those in charge.

When we work together, we glorify God. Our passions, interests, and gifts allow us to be part of God’s ministry and mission.

You will have opportunity to join other disciples “Choosing to Serve” on Sundays, April 19 and 26, during our worship services in the sanctuary and the Harbor. Begin now to pray about where you want to serve.

Profiles of Service - by Carrie Humphreys (third in a series of interviews with the staff at Belin Memorial)

There is no such thing as a typical day at Belin Memorial for church administrator, Robin Boyer. With a degree in accounting, Boyer is the gal who oversees the church finances, recently compiling the 2015 church budget. She and her staff tend to the day-to-day operations of running Belin. Her office pays the bills for the church and learning center, manages the more than 50 employees, and occasionally (very occasionally) sooths a

concerned parishioner or parent.

"People don't realize that the church is run like a corporation with all the same problems, headaches, and issues of running a business, but in this case, our business is for the Kingdom of God.” Boyer, who hails from Greenville, was baptized and married in the Methodist church. She moved to the area when her husband, Clif, was hired as director of the Horry County Libraries. The couple has two children, Sadie, 9, and Sullivan, 7.

Boyer is an avid runner, running four or five miles most mornings. For fun, when weather permits, she and her family cruise the river, tubing and relaxing on their boat. "I love being on the water," she says. She also loves Belin and is thankful at the end of the day for the opportunity to serve.

Jane Sparks is aptly named. She's a dynamo, bursting with energy and ideas. As the program director for Belin, her day is jammed with the responsibility of overseeing numerous church programs and activities, like vacation bible school, ladies bible studies, the discipleship program, and the LOGOS weekly youth gatherings.

In addition, she with assistant, Blair DeLappe, trains all the program facilitators, from worship leaders to Stephen Ministers. Her job is challenging and endless, she says.

Sparks’ experience comes from thirteen years as an elementary school teacher and recently as one of the instructors at the Belin Creative Learning Center. She took the position of staff program director because "I felt I could offer more to Belin than I was giving."

On weekends Sparks, originally from Charlotte, NC, sings in the Belin choir, enjoys playing piano, her family, occasional travel, and beach outings with her husband, Sparky.

With the multitude of church happenings that Sparks directs, volunteers are essential, she reminds. "And when I need more volunteers to help, I pray about it. And God comes forth and fills the supply.”

Are You Aware? - by Tom Himmel, Library Director

Did you know that Belin Memorial has a library located in our Family Life Center? One of our five core values is “Love Learning” and the library/resource center is a great place to start. The library houses a large collection of books, DVDs, CDs, atlases, and maps that specialize in the study of the Bible. There is a biographical section as well as Christian

fiction, and more. The United Methodist Women maintain a cart in the library with some challenging books included in their Reading Plan.

Most materials are available to be checked out. The library is open during regular FLC hours. Stop by soon to browse!
