  • disable input DI, each emitter can be controlled in a short reactiontime. If only one emitter is activated in the same time, a mutualinfluence is precluded.DI= 0V or not connected = emitter enabledDI= High (24VDC) = emitter disabledThe Disable Input DI must be activated for >= 10ms. The DI inputis PNP compatible. The Emitter-Disable-Input DI can also be usedfor testing the associated receiver. By a short-time shut-off of theemitter, the switching off of the receiver output and with it the correctfunction of the receiver will be checked.Mechanical Mounting PrescriptionsMount the light barriers free from vibrations and shocks. If it ispracticable, protect the lenses from contamination.Alignment of the Light BarrierThe three color indication at the receiver allows an optimal align-ment.1. The emitter beam must hit the receiver lens in an angle nearto 90°.2. The receiver should be moved, until the LED (from the receiver)shows "green". Search the middle of the green range. If the receiverLED shows yellow, the light barrier is bad aligned, or the lenses arepolluted.MaintenanceNo special maintenance is required. If the lenses becomes dirty, theyshould be cleaned with a non-aggressive solvents. Equipment mustonly be repaired by the manufacturer.Safety InformationsThe dismounting of the connector safety lock device while the supplyvoltage is connected is hazardous! The mounting of the light barrierin dusty locations without fixed cordset or protection cap results ina high ignition risk. When installing and operating with the lightbarrier, it is necessary to take into consideration the relevantinternational and other national regulations. Installation prescriptions for Ex hazardous locationsGeneral regulations for all types of Ex devicesIt is necessary to take into consideration the valid international andnational rules and regulations (EN 60079-14). The local equipo-tential bonding have to be done. The protective earth (PE) is solidconnected with the housing. At devices without PE terminal, thelocal equipotential bonding have to be done with conductivecorrosion-resistant clamps or nuts M18 over the housing. The cablehave to be installed and protected against damages. The cablewith termination fittings, or in cable tray systems and installed ina manner to avoid tensile stress at the termination fittings. Toconnect cables inside hazardous locations only use certificated Exhousings. All cable terminals must be connected outside hazard-ous locations. Other then original manufacturer, additional opticallenses are not allowed in hazardous locations.Types ILD-108-S/E-GD: ONLY applicable in Ex zones 1, 2 and 21,22.Types ILN-108-S/E-GD: ONLY applicable in Ex zones 2 and 22.The maximum rated supply voltage Um = 30VDC must not beexceeded.Types ILN-108-S/E-GD S39/S99 are ONLY applicable in Ex zones2 and 22 hazardous locations. Do not separate the connector whenthe supply voltage is connected to the cable. When installing thesensor, the safety lock device must be fitted at the cable connector. The additional adhesive warning label must be fixed to theconnector housing at the connection cable. S39: Binder connec-tors series 423, 5 terminals, are allowed ONLY. S99: Lumbergcordsets RKTS 5-298/xx (Straight type), RKWTH 5-298/xx (Rightangle type) are allowed ONLY. It is necessary to take intoconsideration the mounting prescription of the connector manufac-turer. In dusty locations, the protection cap for the socket must befitted, when the connection cable is NOT connected. The maxi-mum rated supply voltage Um = 30VDC must not be exceeded.General mounting prescriptionsDo not exceed the maximum ratings. The electrical connectionsmust be exactly as shown in the connection diagram. The cableshield must be connected short. The cable shield should beconnected to the protection earth, large-surfaced. Connectioncables must not be installed parallel to high voltage cables.Function at standard connection of the supply voltageIf the light beam is not interrupted the output switches to ON (+24V).If the light beam is interrupted the output switches OFF. The loadmust be connected between the output and 0V.Function at inverse connection of the supply voltageIf the light beam is not interrupted the output switches to OFF. Ifthe light beam is interrupted the output switches to ON (+24VDC).The load must be connected between the output and 0V.Optional pollution indication output VAOnly when the receiver LED's shows yellow, the pollution indica-tion output VA switches to +24VDC. (Light barrier bad aligned, orlenses polluted or other impairments). If the receiver LED's showsgreen or red, the output VA is switched to 0V. This function givesthe possibility to a fast reaction at polluted lenses.Arrangement of light barriers , only types I..-108-S-DI (optional)If several light barriers are installed close to another, it is necessaryto use light barriers with emitters with disable input. • Installation prescriptions for Ex hazardous locationsTypes ILD-239.-S/E..: Only certificated for Ex zones 1, 2, 21, 22.Types ILN-239.-S/E..: Only applicable in Ex zones 2 and 22. Themaximum rated supply voltage Um = 30VDC must not beexceeded.WARNING: It is necessary to take into consideration the validinternational and national rules and regulations (EN 60079-14). Donot exceed the maximum ratings. The local equipotential bondinghave to be done reliable and noncorrosive. The protective earth(PE) is solid connected with the housing. The cable have to beinstalled and protected against damages. The cable with termina-tion fittings, or in cable tray systems and installed in a manner toavoid tensile stress at the termination fittings. To connect cablesinside hazardous locations only use certificated Ex e housings. Allcable terminals must be connected outside hazardous locations.Other then original manufacturer, additional optical lenses are notallowed in hazardous locations.General mounting prescriptions:Do not exceed the maximum ratings. The electrical connectionsmust be exactly as shown in the connection diagram. The cableshield must be connected short. The cable shield should beconnected to the protection earth, large-surfaced. Connectioncables must not be installed parallel to high voltage cables.Arrangement of light barriers , types I..-239A to D:If several light barriers are installed close to another, it is necessaryto use light barriers with different emitter frequencies (Types A toD). Light barriers with different emitter frequencies have noinfluence on each other. Precaution: If a receiver is influencedby other emitters of an other type, TOFF may increase from 30msup to 400ms.The high speed light barrier type -HS and the high temperaturelight barrier type IRL S153, can not be combined with light barrierstypes A to D.To avoid interference effects, all emitters should be installed at thesame side and all receivers at the other side. For indoor applicationsthe background should be protected against clutters, by using lightabsorbing materials.Arrangement of light barriers , type I..239HS-S-DI:If several light barriers are installed close to another, it is necessaryto use light barriers with emitters with disable input. By using thedisable input DI, each emitter can be controlled in a short reactiontime. By a short-time shut-off of theemitter, the switching off of the receiver output and with it the correctfunction of the receiver will be checked.FunctionIf the light beam is not interrupted the output switches to ON (+24V).If the light beam is interrupted the output switches to OFF. The lightbarrier IRL/ILN/ILD-239 works with two different light sources,

visible red light and infrared. The high density and the two differentwavelengths gives a high penetration capacity at a heavy pollutedambiance. The load (Relay or other loads) must be connected at" - " (minus).Pollution indication output "VA" (optional):The VA output will be activated by polluted lenses or a badalignment. If the lenses are polluted, the LED shows yellow andthe VA output switches to ON (+24V). This function gives thepossibility to recognize pollutions in a short time.Alignment of the Light BarrierThe three color indication in the receiver optic allows an optimalalignment.1. The emitter must be aligned this way, that the emitter lens is fullyilluminated (By watching from the receiver at the emitter).2. The receiver should be moved, until the LED (from the receiver)shows "green". Search the middle of the green range.MaintenanceNo special maintenance is required. If the lenses becomes dirty, theyshould be cleaned with a non-aggressive solvents. Equipment mustonly be repaired by the manufacturer.Safety informationsThe sensors series IRL/ILN/ILD-239.-S/E must not be used forAccident-Prevention! In worst case of disturbance, the outputs canshow any state. The mounting, wiring, application and maintenancemust be realized in accordance with this operating manual and theother relevant rules and prescriptions. It is necessary to take into consideration the relevant internationaland other national regulations. Under others are this: IEC 60079-14,Direction 1999/92/EC. Installation prescriptions for Ex hazardous locationsTypes ILD-240.-S/E..: Only certificated for Ex zones 1, 2, 21, 22.Types ILN-240.-S/E..: Only applicable in Ex zones 2 and 22. The maximumrated supply voltage Um = 30VDC must not be exceeded.WARNING: It is necessary to take into consideration the valid internationaland national rules and regulations (EN 60079-14). Do not exceed themaximum ratings. The local equipotential bonding have to be done reliableand noncorrosive. The protective earth (PE) is solid connected with thehousing. The cable have to be installed and protected against damages. Thecable with termination fittings, or in cable tray systems and installed in amanner to avoid tensile stress at the termination fittings. To connect cablesinside hazardous locations only use certificated Ex e housings. All cableterminals must be connected outside hazardous locations. Other then originalmanufacturer, additional optical lenses are not allowed in hazardouslocations.General mounting prescriptions:Do not exceed the maximum ratings. The electrical connections must beexactly as shown in the connection diagram. The cable shield must beconnected short. The cable shield should be connected to the protectionearth, large-surfaced. Connection cables must not be installed parallel tohigh voltage cables.Arrangement of light barriers , types I..-240A to D:If several light barriers are installed close to another, it is necessary to uselight barriers with different emitter frequencies (Types A to D). Light barrierswith different emitter frequencies have no influence on each other.Precaution: If a receiver is influenced by other emitters of an other type,TOFF may increase from 30ms up to 400ms. The high speed light barriertype -HS and the high temperature light barrier type IRL S153, can not becombined with light barriers types A to D. To avoid interference effects, allemitters should be installed at the same side and all receivers at the otherside. For indoor applications the background should be protected againstclutters, by using light absorbing materials.Arrangement of light barriers , types IRL/ILD-240HS-S-DI and IRL/ILD-240HS-E-HO:If several light barriers are installed close to another, it is necessary to uselight barriers with emitters with disable input.Emitter disable input "DI":By using the disable input DI, each emitter can be controlled in a short reactiontime. If only one emitter is activated in the same time, a mutual influenceis precluded.DI= 0V or not connected = emitter enabledDI= High (24VDC) = emitter disabledThe Disable Input DI must be activated for >= 10ms. The DI input is PNPcompatible. The Emitter-Disable-Input DI can also be used for testing theassociated receiver. By a short-time shut-off of the emitter, the switchingoff of the receiver output and with it the correct function of the receiver willbe checked.Receiver hold input "HO":By using the "HO" input the last output stage before activating the HO-inputwill be holding at the output. After activating the hold input the output will notbe changed.HO= 0V or not connected = Receiver works normally.HO= High (24VDC) = Receiver output is locked.FunctionIf the light beam is not interrupted the output switches to ON (+24V). If thelight beam is interrupted the output switches to OFF. The light barriers IRL/ILN/ILD-240 works with two different light sources,

visible red light and infrared. The high density and the two differentwavelengths gives a high penetration capacity at a heavy pollutedambiance. The load (Relay or other loads) must be connected at " - " (minus).Pollution indication output "VA" (optional):The VA output will be activated by polluted lenses or a bad alignment. If thelenses are polluted, the LED shows yellow and the VA output switches toON (+24V). This function gives the possibility to recognize pollutions in ashort time.Alignment of the Light BarrierThe three color indication in the receiver optic allows an optimal alignment.1. The emitter must be aligned this way, that the emitter lens is fullyilluminated (By watching from the receiver at the emitter).2. The receiver should be moved, until the LED (from the receiver) shows"green". Search the middle of the green range.MaintenanceNo special maintenance is required. If the lenses becomes dirty, they shouldbe cleaned with a non-aggressive solvents. Equipment must only be repairedby the manufacturer.Safety informationsThe sensors series IRL/ILN/ILD-240.-S/E must not be used for Accident-Prevention! In worst case of disturbance, the outputs can show any state.Series ILN: "WARNING - EXPLOSION HAZARD - WHEN IN HAZARDOUSLOCATIONS, TURN OFF POWER BEFORE REPLACING OR WIRINGMODULES. DO NOT DISCONNECT EQUIPMENT UNLESS POWER HASBEEN SWITCHED OFF OR THE AREA IS KNOWN TO BE NONHAZARD-OUS". The mounting of the sensor in dusty locations without fixed cordsetor protection cap results in a high ignition risk. The mounting, wiring, application and maintenance must be realized in accordance with thisoperating manual and the other relevant rules and prescriptions. It isnecessary to take into consideration the relevant international and othernational regulations. Under others are this: EN 60079-14, Direction 1999/92/EC. The light barriers series IRL/ILN-240.-S/E... corresponds to thefollowing standards:EN 60079-0:2009, EN 60079-1:2007, EN 60079-15:2011-02, EN 60079-31:2010, EN 60825-1:2006, EN 60825-2:2004; EN 60529; EN 61000-4-2 toEN 61000-4-6, EN 61000-6-1/-2, EN 61000-6-4. Ex protection: 94/9/EC(ATEX 100a), Machine directive: 2006/42/EC, EMC: 2004/108/EC, RoHS:2002/95/EC.General Notes, disposalThe visible flushing of the red light source for the types A to D is a normalfunction and not an integral error. We reserve the right to modify ourequipment. Our equipment is designed such way, that it has the least possibleadverse effect on the environment. It neither emit or contain any damagingor siliconized substances and use a minimum of energy and resources. Nolonger usable or irreparable units must be disposed of in accordance withlocal waste disposal regulations.

  • Ex Protection:It is necessary to take into consideration the validinternational and national rules and regulations. Thelocal equipotential bonding have to be done by a reli-able, noncorrosive holding of the protection earth con-nection. The protective earth wire (PE) is solid con-nected inside the housing. The cable must be protectedagainst damages. To connect cables inside hazardouslocations only use certificated Ex e housings. All cableterminals must be connected outside hazardouslocations. Other additional optical lenses, exceptionallythe fix mounted optic, are not allowed in hazardouslocations.Connection PrescriptionsDo not exceed the maximum ratings. The electricalconnections must be exactly as shown in the connectiondiagram. The cable shield must be connected short. The cable shield should be connected to the protectionearth, large-surfaced. Connection cables must not beinstalled parallel to high voltage cables.FunctionSee previous page for the output function dependent ofthe light beam status interrupted or not interrupted. If several light barriers are installed close to another, aninterference by light beam through coupling is possible.(Please use the light barriers of the series ILD-2xx, withdifferent emitter frequencies to eliminate the interfer-ence).Pollution Indication OutputThe pollution indication output will be only activatedwhen the light beam is well established. The pollutionoutput is switched OFF by recognition of a reducedoptical input signal. If the switching output is activatedand the pollution output is switched OFF then the lensesare polluted. The light beam is not affected when theswitching output is activated and the pollution output isswitched ON. The pollution output is an PNP-type andconnected to the wire 4.

MaintenanceThe light barrier does not require any special mainte-nance. Contaminated lenses are to clean with a nonaggressive medium. Equipment must only be repairedor serviced by the manufacturer.Safety InformationsThis light barrier is not suitable for accident prevention. If the device breaks down, the output can switch on anystate. For installing and using the light barrier, it isnecessary to take into consideration the relevant inter-national and other national regulations.
