IFSI Library Mission StatementThe Illinois Fire Service Institute Library provides fire and emergency library and information assistance and services to the Institute’s instructional staff, students, Illinois fire departments and firefighters, and other fire/emergency-related users in the successful and effective performance of their jobs.

the constant commitment and dedication of the library staff.
• Every library user, without discrimination, is welcomed courteously and given full attention.
• Information given to the library users will be based on current, verifiable sources and will be clearly communicated in a timely manner.

User Training
The IFSI Library provides both online tutorials and librarian-assisted training to users about the best methods for searching and accessing library materials.
Some topics covered in user training are• Using the Library’s search options through
the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC)• Utilizing the interlibrary loan process• Searching for specific sources of information
such as IFSTA manuals, ASTM and NFPA codes and standards, and line of duty death reports

Accessing IFSI Library MaterialsUsers can request IFSI Library materials in-person, via telephone or email, or using the “search and request materials” feature of the Online Public Access Catalog.

The standard loan period is 30 days; however the Library will consider extended loans upon request.
Requested library materials can be picked up in person at IFSI or delivered to a patron’s local library through the Interlibrary Loan service provided by the Illinois Heartland Library System. The interlibrary loan service is available at no charge to users.
