Response to The Story

We have been getting lots of good responses from our people regard-ing The Story. Here are some of the comments: “I didn’t know how much I didn’t know about the Old Testament”.

“I like the way stories I learned as a child are presented in a new, fresh way”.

“It’s so good to see our Church in God’s Word and to hear families reading and praying together”.

As a Church, we have to be happy and excited about the way our peo-ple have gotten involved in The Story. If you haven’t yet, would you allow us to give you a few ideas on how you can get involved— 1. Read this week’s chapter, The Battle Begins.

2. Take down any significant notes or questions that arise in you, based on your reading.

3. Bring those questions and notes to a Sunday School class or to a Wednesday night Bible study.

4. Start some family devotions or prayer time with your family on this week’s teaching.

5. Catch any teachings or messages you’ve missed at leroychristianchurch.org

Blessings, Jeff

YM UPDATE

Leaves

If you haven’t noticed yet, the leaves are beginning to change color. My maple in

the back yard started changing about 2 or 3 weeks ago. One branch at the top was

starting to turn yellow and stood out among all the rest of the green around it.

Last week, I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a few days in Colorado for

CIY’s Wilderness retreat for youth ministers. It’s only my second time being

there, but man has it made an impression on me! Like here, the trees with leaves

(there are lots of conifers and evergreens) were beginning to change colors too.

Most of these were Aspens. If you’ve never seen one, it is a tall, skinny tree with

light gray bark. Against all the rock and dark evergreens, these happy little trees

stood out as little flares of bright yellow and really dabbed a nice splash of color on

the landscape. The thing that makes the changing of leaves so beautiful is the

same thing that makes shade trees in the summer so comfortable: it takes a whole

bunch of individual leaves doing what leaves do. One leaf isn’t going to provide a

whole lot of shade nor will one leaf change the scene of a mountain vista. But in the

grand scheme, every individual leaf is needed in order to make the shade or change

the hue of the mountain side. That’s the kingdom of heaven… each one playing his

or her part, being what they’re created to be. So as you’re looking at your own

leaves change color and fall into your yard, remember that you yourself are a part

of something grand and beautiful that you may not realize from your own vantage

point, but God does. And he says it’s very good.

Mother’s Of PreschoolerS is a national ministry directed at mom’s with little ones

in the home. LeRoy CC has begun hosting a MOPS chapter which takes place at

10am and 6pm on the last Tuesday of each month. If you or someone you know

would benefit from MOPS and want more info, mail Laura at [email protected]

We really some more help in our Jr. and Sr. High groups. These ages are crucial

years in the discipleship process and having more mentors and people to connect

with along the way is a must. If you think you could have a conversation with a

teenager about what they are learning and about how the story of the Bible con-

nects with life, then WE need to have a conversation. Please contact me on my cell

or in the office.

We are collecting candy for the Oct 31 event this week. Bring your candy dona-

tions to the bin in the foyer. We also need people to run our game stations and

food. Lemme know how you want to help out this year!

The Student International Conference on Missions is coming up November 14-16

in Columbus, OH. This is an uplifting and challenging weekend conference with a

worldwide missions emphasis. SICOM is for Jr. and Sr. High students but is held in

conjunction with the regular missionary convention. If you’d like to go, the cost is

$105 and needs to be paid by Oct 31.

Blessings, Joe

DECISION’s CLASS Sunday, October 19 - 9:15 a.m.

Led by Jeff Mayfield in his office. This is a new Sunday School class for anyone who is thinking about being baptized or transferring their membership to LCC. This class will simply share what the Bible says

about making a decision to follow Christ and what the scriptures say about baptism. This is not a “high-pressure” event—it is more like a “we’ll report—YOU decide” kind

of experience. If you want to RSVP us at [email protected], that would be great for

planning purposes, or otherwise just show up Sunday morning. ____________________

THANK YOU! We would like to thank everyone who came to our 50th anniversary reception, sent cards, or stopped us to wish us a happy anniversary. We especially want to thank our four children, Alex, Elizabeth, Brian, and Becky and their spouses, our grand-children, my sister, my niece, and great-niece for all their hard work and making

the day so special. We have been blessed through the years with great examples of Christian couples in

our family, in the Church here, and in Churches we have served. God has truly blessed us!
