Uniform Update A note has gone home via Skoolbag highlighng a shiſt in our uniform policy commencing later this year in preparaon for a gradual implementaon through 2021 and 2022. Governing Council, staff and students have been discussing the uniform and found that currently there are 9 different tops which fit within our current policy. The leer outlines that we will be streamlining the uniform with a gradual implementaon of the newer style uniform. While there will be a minor increase in cost for the new style polo shirt, we choose not to mark up our uniform sales at all, which makes our uniforms some of the most affordable in the hills. I have offered to host an informaon session next Tuesday 22 September, for any parents who might like to know more about the change in style and implementaon plan. How- ever, rest assured that it will be a gradual implementaon meaning there will be no rush to throw away the old uniform and purchase the newer style. Check out Skoolbag for more details. Camps and Excursions It is looking really promising that all three classes will be going on their camps and excursions next term. The JP class have re-booked their excursion to Gorge Wildlife Park which was postponed from late term one, the MP class is having a sleep over at Monarto Zoo early Term 4 and then a week later the UP class will be heading away for three nights at the Naracoorte caves. Camps and excursions are such an outstanding opportunity to extend the learning of our students, while they connue to develop social skills, in- dependence and collaboraon. Lenswood. This week we’re hosting the Arts Spectacular event here at

school and while we’ve had to scale back food and limit those who can

attend, it is shaping up to be another fantastic exhibition of learning. Next

gratulations and thank you must go out to all of the students, staff and in

particular our specialist Arts teacher, Darly who continues to lead our stu-

dents in all things Arts. Please keep reading for a few updates and highlights

from the past fortnight.

Playground Redevelopment

Governing council discussed and endorsed an investment of some of the school savings into redeveloping

our school playground. While we have one of the best school playgrounds in the hills, it is getting towards

the end of its shelf life, hence we are commencing plans to redevelop before it becomes time to remove the

current equipment. We have begun consulting with local company Native Habit regarding concepts for a

new outdoor learning environment and play space which aims to bring more natural elements into the play

space. Staff, students and parents will be consulted with the concepts and we look forward to commencing

some of this work in early 2021. As you would imagine there is a lot of work that has to happen in the back-

ground for an upgrade of this nature, so please be patient whilst looking forward to a great new outdoor

learning and play space here at school.

Partnership Review

Yesterday I was able to share a snapshot of our staff professional learning story at a Department for Educa-

tion performance review. Anne Millard (Executive Director, Partnerships, Schools and Preschools) and Susan

Cameron (Executive Director, Learning Improvement Division) gave outstanding feedback of the story I

shared regarding the work we have been doing in early years reading and how this has now related to sus-

tained improvement in reading outcomes for our early years students. Our Junior Primary team of Julie, Ky-

lie and Nicola should be incredibly proud of the learning journey that they are on and the results we are see-

ing. We have set ambitious targets for our students and I’m pleased to share that we are certainly meeting

those targets and in many areas are exceeding them. Sadly, I was only able to share one improvement story

and chose to highlight our junior years, but I was spoilt for choice and could have selected an equally great

story from our middle or upper years. We are truly fortunate to have such a highly experienced team of ed-

ucators here who are fully on board with our commitment to ensuring every child in every class receives

high quality education at Lenswood.

Kindy Transition

Early next term we are expecting between 12 and 15 kindy students commencing their transition visits in

preparation to join us as reception students for 2021. We have been working really closely with the local

kindergartens and this increase in reception students for next year is a real credit to all of the work that has

been happening here at school. Next term all of our students will play a part in supporting our newest stu-

dents become familiar with our school and as parents, please take a moment to introduce yourself to some

of the new families who are joining us for the first time. Feedback from the new families is that they were

blown away by the welcoming nature of our parents and school community, which is a real strength of our

school. Thank you for being so welcoming and helping to showcase what an outstanding school we have

here.

This is the last newsletter for the term, so I hope you all take the time to recharge a little over the holidays

and come back fresh ready for a busy term which will include: book week, sports day, graduation, national

outdoor classroom day, camps, excursions and all of the end of year festivities that occur. It’s going to be a

great finish to an obscure and challenging, yet rewarding year. Take care, Jess.

The (not so royal) Royal Lenswood Show

On Thursday, 24 September the Year 5/6/7 class are presenting a Show Day for the whole school. There will be free arcade games, outdoor games and pony rides. We will be having a cake stall with treats costing between 50 cents and $1 each. Show bags will be $3 each with any profit going towards the priz-es for the arcade games. The ‘show’ will start at midday and finish at the end of the day.
