President’s Message
Dear and Esteemed Colleagues,
It is such a great pleasure addressing you once again on the heels of the 2011 Winter Issue of the RC 13 Newsletter. Not much has changed since then except that now we know for sure who would be joining and participating at the various ISA RC 13 sessions and joint session at the Second ISA Forum of Sociology in Buenos Aires, Argentina during August 1- 4, 2012.
I am excited about the fact that a large number of new colleagues from all over the world but more particularly form Latin America would be participating at various RC 13 sessions in Buenos Aires. I do hope and wish that many of these new participants who are not yet members of RC 13 would be jointing us as formal members of our Research Committee in near future.
I would also like to bring it to your notice that the publication of the post-Palermo Conference on “Mapping Leisure across Borders” is progressing well and we can look forward to its publication shortly.
It will also be of interest for you to know that I have started receiving offers for organizing the next ISA RC 13 Midterm Conference in 2013. There is still a chance for those who are desirous of submitting their bids until July 30, 2012.
In the meantime, you are all also welcome to communicate your ideas and suggestions for consideration at the Business Meeting of ISA RC 13 scheduled on Saturday, the August 4, 2012 in Buenos Aires at the occasion of the Second ISA Forum.
Keenly looking forward to meeting many of you in Buenos Aires and with best wishes and regards,
Ishwar Modi

Leisure Newsletter
Editor’s Note
Dear Friends,
Finally the time has come for us to congregate at the mid-term forum in Buenos Aires. We look forward to a meaningful exchange of ideas and to learn more about the work done in the field of leisure during this period. We expect that the multiple joint sessions with other RCs will widen the scope and dimension of research on leisure so that by the time of the ISA Forum in Japan in 2014 we may see some new publications in the field.
Buenos Aires is a beautiful city. For many of us this will be the first visit to Argentina and, perhaps, to Latin America a whole. We should remember to look out for all the sites there and take advantage of this opportunity to acquaint ourselves with this part of our universal heritage.
Also look out for the release of a new book, Leisure and Tourism: Cultural Paradigms. It will be released during the RC 13 Presidential session. Your comments on the book will be looked forward to with keen interest.
We wish everyone a safe and pleasant journey and a happy time in Buenos Aires.
Veena Sharma Secretary RC 13 and Fellow Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, INDIA.

XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology Yokohama Japan
XVIII ISA World Congress of Sociology Facing an Unequal World: Challenges for Global Sociology Yokohama, Japan July 13-19, 2014
An incredibly sensitive community of academics and professionals such as the International Sociological Association, aware of the social transformations taking place in the world, cannot and should not be absent from a debate on inequality.
The great tradition of multi, inter and transdisciplinary works in which the most complex problems of the present day world are addressed; its unique condition of being academically, scientifically, regionally, institutionally and organically plural make it ideally qualified to face the challenge of contributing to this international exchange, from which an intellectual and moral force can emerge in order to achieve drastic changes in the manners, forms of reasoning and scopes of the decisions to be taken in the world to ensure the preservation of human life and societies.
