LE ROY CHRISTIAN CHURCH The Cornerstone The Cornerstone Newsletter Date: September 3, 2014 Newsletter Date: September 3, 2014 Issue 18 Issue 18 - Digital Edition Digital Edition The Story: The Beginning, The Fall, & The Flood This Sunday, September 7 th here at LCC we will begin our journey through the Bible. We will be taking a very close look at His story and how our story fits with His grand plan! Please make a commitment as a family to attend as many weeks of The Story as you possibly can. We say that because we believe that God has a message for you and for our church and we need to be present to get that message. This first week we’ll take a look at the creation of the world…the amazing way He was able to put it all in motion in just six days and then He rested on the seventh (that’s a whole teaching in itself). We’ll see that God created man in his own image and we’ll examine the special uniqueness that we all enjoy. He also gave man free choice and that has basically led every man to rise and fall by his own devices…and sure enough the first man and the first woman did come up short (something we should all be able to relate to). As more and more men and women fell or followed in their footsteps, mankind separated so far from God that he had to do something to get their attention and get them back on track with Him. He found only a few who remained righteous (a trait we would do well to strive for) and sent a flood to basically start it all over again. And from those few righteous people who were the remnant of His prom- ise—here we are today… hopefully still praising and worshipping Him! This will be a lot to cover. So, we’re suggesting that you spend time alone or as a family each and every week talking about different points in The Story. Before bedtime or during prayer time is a good place to do that…children and grandchil- dren going to sleep with God’s Word fresh on their minds. We can’t think of a better way to end a day or start a new day! Also, join a Sunday School class or a bible study—Jeff will lead one on Wednesday nights at 6:30 and on Sunday morn- ings at 9:15—both in the sanctuary… other classes & studies will be covering the material as well. We’re hoping that as we submit to God’s Word as a church, that He will guide and direct us through 2014-2015! Blessings, Jeff

YM UPDATE

My Looonngg Weekend

We put a lot of miles on the car this past week. The Willis’ headed west last Tuesday en route to Tulsa, OK and Perry, KS. We spent a couple days visiting family in Tulsa before visiting Brent Noe at his internship site at Crossroads Cowboys Church in Perry. Now Brent is in the interesting part of Kansas, not the part that gives it the notorious reputation of being mind-numbingly flat. His town is not entirely unlike Le Roy. It’s a little town on a state road, but within a short drive of everything you’d need. It’s right in between the state capital, Topeka, and Lawrence, home of The Uni-versity of Kansas Jayhawks, and just a little bit further away from the big city of Kansas City (how ‘bout them Royals??). Crossroads is a little differ-ent than your average church. No, not everyone shows up on their horse (but they could), but their pole barn building where they meet each week can also be used for a horse arena. Brent plays an integral part of this small but close-knit group of Christians. We got to see firsthand what a good job one of Le Roy’s own is doing in the Kingdom of God. Keep praying for Brent as well as our LCC students and alums as they encounter their world as salt and light.

JAM is here! Our preK-5th program begins this Wednesday, Sept 3. We need a few more small group leaders help to start conversations about the month’s virtue and each week’s theme and help make the lesson stick through creative activities and even games. If you’d like to serve our preK-5th graders in this ministry, please let me know ASAP.

On this same note, we really some more help in our Jr. and Sr. High groups. These ages are crucial years in the discipleship process and having more mentors and people to connect with along the way is a must. If you think you could have a conversation with a teenager about what they are learning and about how the story of the Bible connects with life, then WE need to have a conversation. Please contact me on my cell or in the office.

The Getaway is coming up for our Junior High students just after the beginning of school. On September 12-13, we’ll head to Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO for a great weekend on OCC’s campus with hun-dreds of kids from all over. It’s $25, and the absolute last day to register is Sunday, Sept 7!!

Blessings,

Joe

FOOD PANTRY NEWS

The Food Pantry served 17 households on August 25 and 4 households on September 1. The numbers were down on Labor Day because some of our regulars

assumed we would be closed. The Pantry needs tuna, cake mixes, peanut butter, jelly, boxed dinners, and paper towels.

LIBRARY NEWS Our current copy of In the Grip of Grace by Max Lucado has disappeared off the shelf. A

search through the card file box revealed a card from “ages” ago for the same book—also missing. There was a post-it-note with the borrower’s name, but no check-out date. The

card from the current missing copy was not left in the file box. I have also found plastic cases for DVDs that are missing the discs. I have tried diligently

to find missing books/videos, but only a few have been returned. Please be responsible when you check out materials from the library.

THANK YOU!

Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for all your prayers through this very difficult time. Your love has meant so much—shared to us with caring words, cards, and prayers. That love held us in God’s hand. Psalm 63:7-8 “For you have been my strength, and in the shadow of your wings I will shout for joy, my soul clings to you, even as your right hand supports me.” I am so thankful to our God for His Love and Goodness. Praise His Name!

Nancy Spratt

LCC would like to send a big shout out to all of the volunteers and cooks who helped make our annual dinner for the Fall Festival workers possible! Whether it was moving

and setting up tables/chairs, cleaning, organizing, praying, donating and/or cook-ing/serving the food we THANK YOU for your Christian stewardship and heart in

this project! God Bless.
