He also explained the difference between mental health and mental illness. Mark Woodley spoke about his role as a CAMHS worker (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) in Cowra. Nic Newling has some new Grenfell followers on his Instagram account. His twelve things I wish I knew when I was in high school theme was really popular with everyone. Dakota Rhys Jones, a dietician in Cowra, told us how important a positive body image is in both boys and girls. We’re all different so let’s embrace that and support our growth with healthy nutrition. We are looking forward to bringing some of our mental health support network to school so our students and families can be better informed about the services available to us in Grenfell.

To all the wonderfull mothers and soon to be mothers who gave us life and love. Wishing you the happiest of Mothers day this Sunday.

Bridget Baker has attended the civics and citizenship program at NSW Parliament House on Wednesday 8 May. The program offers school captains the opportunity to develop their knowledge of our system of government and parliamentary proceedings and understand the role of the Governor. It was a wonderful opportunity for Bridget to represent our school in the role of school captain and to meet other young leaders from across the state. I look forward to hearing more from Bridget on the day’s events.

Our wonderful school is supporting the Adopt A Farmer initiative which was held across the nation on Wednesday 8 May 2019. As you are no doubt aware, farming communities are doing it tough with crippling drought across NSW. We have all been touched by the tough conditions farmers, their families, their animals and our regional communities are experiencing. Our students lent a hand by organising a gumboot tossing competition and by hosting a dress like a farmer mufti day. The funds raised will be donated to Rural Aid as a combined Department of Education initiative. Well done students.

On Saturday 4 May, I had the opportunity to attend Lunch on the Lawn, hosted by the Grenfell Branch of the Country Education Foundation at the Grenfell Country Club. We enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by Tania Mooney and watched Danny Joyce and Hugh Moffitt auction off various items to raise funds to support the youth of the Weddin Shire as they continue their post high school education. It was a great afternoon and I would like to extend my thanks to the CEF for the work that they do.

Introducing The Charles Sturt AdvantageThe new CSU early entry program is changing the game on how students apply to university. They are looking beyond test scores and searching for people ready to unlock their potential and develop their soft skills while they study. What are soft skills? They’re skills like emotional intelligence, collaboration and communication skills, resilience and a commitment to creating a world worth living in. In fact, they are something that employers regularly say Charles Sturt graduates have and it helps give them the edge.Students can register now to get all the details straight to their inbox.
