1996 was one of the vintage years of the decade in Bordeaux … and it was also very special in neighbouring Bergerac. Little Domaine du Gouyat made a velvety, textbook, Merlot-rich red – but their marketing skills lagged way behind their winemaking abilities and much of it was never sold.

Instead it sat in the darkest corner of this 16th century cellar quietly maturing, turning into something magnificent. Eventually, word got out about this precious secret and our buyer in Bordeaux, Clare Tooley, swooped on your behalf.

Ruby colour with brick-red edges (a tell-tale sign of age and maturity) with red fruit and cedar aromas. Smooth and supple with remarkably fresh cherry, plum and raspberry flavours. Superb with roast rack of lamb. 12.5% Vol. To 2013.
