Dear Friends,
As we close in on an event that changed the course of history, we heard in the words of scripture how the birth of Jesus fulfilled prophecies from hundreds of years earlier. Isaiah tells the king that a virgin will bear a son, who will come from the house of David and be called Emmanuel, “God is with us.” Mary, the Blessed Mother, and Joseph, of the house of David, willingly agree to God’s plan. God is with always and was with us today as we celebrated the final Sunday of Advent this weekend. Come, Lord Jesus, Come!
Our parish church will be decorated for Christmas on Monday, December 23rd at 9:30 AM. If anyone is able to assist in this fun-filled activity, please come to the church and lend a hand. As the saying goes, many hands make light work!
I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who contributed to the 2019 Giving Tree Project. This year you really outdid yourselves! We had 47 families to purchase gifts for as well as the tags for Gift Cards and school tuition. I have no way of estimating the costs of the gifts but to say tens of thousands of dollars. The gift tags and tuition contributions amounted to $14,395.00. WOW!! This is the highest amount of donations we have ever received. THANK YOU and thanks to Sallie Theis and Rosemarie Abecasis and their army of elves who sorted and packaged the family gifts. We are also indebted to Mastrocco Movers for their generous delivery of gifts to Saint Cyprian Parish in West Philadelphia. The spirit of Christmas and Giving is alive here at Saint Robert’s every day! I am certainly blessed!
Our Christmas schedule of Masses has been published. Masses on Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 4PM in both church and hall; 6PM and 8PM in church. On Christmas Day, Masses will be celebrated at 7AM, 9AM and 11AM. Mass on Thursday through Saturday, December 26, 27 and 28th will be celebrated at 9AM in church. There is only one Mass each day of Christmas week.
Also, please note that the parish office will be open on Monday, December 23rd (regular hours) but closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and on Thursday, December 26th. The office will be open on December 27 from 9AM until noon as well as on Monday and Tuesday, December 30th and 31st from 9AM until noon. The parish office will be closed on January 1st and January 2nd but resume regular hours beginning January 3, 2020. In case of emergency either Father Raymundo or I will be available throughout the holiday season.
On behalf of the clergy of the parish as well as the entire parish staff, I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas! May the blessings of this season of peace, love and joy be yours!
Saint Robert Bellarmine, pray for us!
With prayers,

Heavenly Father, thank you for calling us to intimate conversation with you in prayer. Give us the strength and the
perseverance to continually work to overcome obstacles to prayer in our lives. Teach us to listen as you speak to us in
the Scriptures and everyday life. Guide us into an ever-deepening love for you. We ask this in the name of your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Saint Francis De Sales
Blessing of the Family Christmas Manger or Nativity Scene
Have a family member read the Gospel, Luke 2:1-8
Then say the following BLESSING:
God of every nation and people, from the very beginning of creation you have made
manifest your love: when our need for a Savior was great you sent your Son to be
born of the Virgin Mary. To our lives he brings joy and peace, justice, mercy, and love.
Lord, bless all who look upon this manger; may it remind us of the humble birth of Jesus,
and raise our thoughts to him, who is God-with-us and Savior of all, and who lives and reigns
forever and ever.
ALL: Amen. (If you do this on Christmas Eve, add the Baby Jesus) From Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers
FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Isaiah 7:10-14; Romans 1:1-7; Matthew 1:18-24
“They shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”
Emmanuel: God with us, not sparate from us, not up there, not the policeman, not the old
man in the sky, and not “ God waiting for us to mess up.” In our heartaches and
bewilderment, God is with us. In our questions and worries, God is with us. In our trails
hopes and joys, God is with us. God is with us, within us, in our midst, for us, before us, and among us.
Is there someone you can invite back to the Church this Christmas? They may just be waiting for that
personal invitation from you. Perhaps all they need a gentle invitation from you to remind that God is
with us in our trials, hopes and joys!
Emmanuel, God with us, open our eyes to the wonder of your closeness to us.
Emmanuel, God with us, open our hearts to recognize you in every person.
Thinking about becoming a Catholic and you have questions?? The door is always OPEN! Saint Robert
Bellarmine Parish offers year round opportunities for people seeking more information about the Catholic Faith, the
Sacraments and living the Christian Life. Please contact Joan Fitzpatrick: 215.343.0315 OR [email protected].

RESPECT LIFE “And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe in her womb leapt.” The first person in the world to welcome Jesus, to recognize Him in the womb of His own mother was a child, John the Baptist. How wonderful- God chose a pre-born child to recognize His Son!
