Masterbatch

Laser welding has become established in the plastics industry as a professional joining method. The basic principle involves joining a laser-transmissive mating part to a laser-absorbing one.

In the laser transmission welding process, a laser-transmissive mating part in the first layer is joined to a laser-absorbing plastic part in the second layer. In this second layer, the plastic part absorbs energy and converts this into heat. Through the transfer of the heat, a fusion is created in the first layer. The fused material solidifies permanently after the irradiation process. The result is a linear welding seam.

Many polymers are laser-transmissive in the wavelengths used for laser welding, i.e. they allow certain wavelengths to pass through without interacting with the laser beam.

The special »LIFOLAS W« additives make the necessary laser-absorbing finish of plastics possible.

Furthermore, Lifocolor supports its customers in the development of tailor-made laser welding masterbatches which are not part of the standard portfolio.
