2019 Christmas Message:

Dear Parishioners of the

LaSalle River Canard Catholic

Family of Parishes,

Christmas is a glorious time in

the life of the Church. It begins with Advent, a new

liturgical year marking a new cycle of preparing to

welcome Jesus in the celebration of Christmas and

renewing our preparation for His Second Coming in

glory.

Our Family of Parishes knows all about new

beginnings as we have been in constant transition

since January of this year when Bishop Fabbro

announced the inauguration of our Family. We have

navigated through many changes, with more to come.

The time of transition will be ongoing as we find our

way into this new model of existence called “Family

of Parishes”.

We have experienced resistance to change and

challenges to the changes that were necessitated by the

reality of two priests left to serve three parishes. Many

positive blessings have also come our way. Our

Sunday Masses have experienced new life. We have

begun new friendships and have opened the doors of

our hearts to share our love of Jesus with each other.

During this “Year of Prayer” called by Bishop Fabbro,

we are invited to ask the Lord to bless us with a

greater love and blessed unity as His brothers and

sisters.

We are celebrating Jesus, born in a humble stable in

the town of Bethlehem away from home. It is now our

turn to move from the comfort of the way we have

always celebrated His birthday. Though we may find

ourselves in a different church building than the one

that we are accustomed to, we come together as

believers in Christ to welcome Him into our hearts.

May the love of Jesus Christ our Saviour fill us with

peace and hope! Merry Christmas and a Blessed New

Year to our Family of Parishes! May God bless you!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Words of Appreciation: There are countless people involved in various liturgical ministries, as well as many others who participate in groups and organizations in our Family of Parishes. Special thanks to our ushers, ministers of hospitality, altar servers, commentators, readers, offertory gift-bearers, Eucharistic Ministers, and sacristans. Thank you to those responsible for setting up the crèches and to the decorating and liturgy committees for beautifying our churches and preparing for our celebrations. Heartfelt thanks to ALL office and parish volunteers. In gratitude, we express our appreciation for our clerical staff – Ruth, Marie and Kim; to our church caretakers – Gerry, Jeff and Kirk. Thank you to our musicians, instrumentalists and choir members for helping us praise God for the gift of His Son. Special thanks to Deacon Art, and to our Pastoral Ministers – Rebecca, Lisa, and Sue. God bless you!

Family of Parishes: It will soon be one year since Bishop Fabbro announced the inauguration of the LaSalle River Canard Catholic Family of Parishes. The Diocese of London embarked on this new model of parish ministry for two reasons: (1) every baptized person is called into a personal relationship with Jesus and is responsible to teach and live the Gospel; (2) there is a shortage of ordained priests to cover the present number of parishes that exist within our diocese.

Every person who claims to be Catholic and a believer is called to be a disciple. Gone are the days when the “Church” or the “Catholic School” is responsible for teaching the faith and instructing our children about the sacraments. Parents are the first teachers of their children as they accepted this responsibility on the day that their little ones were baptized.

Within a few years, every parish in the diocese of London will belong to a “Family of Parishes” – we can no longer bury our heads in the sand and expect that the changes imposed upon us will not affect the way we live our faith.

We are learning, we are growing, we are becoming whom we are meant to be – faith-filled loving followers of our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Page 4: LaSalle River Canard Catholic Family of Parishes...Canard Catholic Family of Parishes. We are adjusting to a reality beyond our control and living the call of our Bishop to create

A look back at 2019: Pleasurable for some and painful for others is the truth that “we are family” – three parishes working together, sharing ministries and services to the people of God living within the boundaries of the LaSalle River Canard Catholic Family of Parishes. We are adjusting to a reality beyond our control and living the call of our Bishop to create communities that make Disciples of Christ. All of us bear the responsibility of adapting to this new model of parish life by participating in the Eucharist, liturgical ministries and the various outreach programs that are offered in our community. Our Masses are well attended, new friendships are flourishing and we are beginning to see the fruits of knowing that “Jesus lives within us” and therefore, “we can change the world”.

The Pastoral Team, along with trained volunteers, continue to offer sacramental preparation. In 2019, the following statistics indicate what we celebrated in our Family of Parishes:

· Baptisms – 82 infants + 3 adults · First Reconciliations – 118 + 10 adults · First Communions – 118 + 10 adults · Confirmations – 138 + 9 adults · Marriages – 27 + 5 convalidations

There were also 28 funerals in our Family of Parishes.

The transitional Parish Pastoral Council members have formulated a 6 month Pastoral Plan with the goal of helping us continue to discern how best to discover Jesus who lives within us. This plan also challenges to live the truth that we can change the world.

We have brought parishioners together to help us unify our celebrations. We have shared days of discernment, setting goals for our Family.

Our financial situation is stable! Each pre-authorized donation and each identified contribution to the individual parishes continues to be honoured. Loose money in the collection remains in the parish where the contribution is made. No matter what church you attend in our Family, your contribution goes to your home parish. Thank you for your monetary contributions, and especially to those who increased their weekly donations to help us keep up with rising costs. Some parishioners have joined other parishes and some have reduced their contributions which obviously will affect in the long run the status and future services in their parish.

Heartfelt thanks to our parishioners for supporting the Capital Campaign projects. We are also very grateful for the various fundraising events and their leaders.

The Buildings & Grounds and Finance Committees will continue to move on various upcoming projects that will maintain the integrity of our buildings and improve our services to our parishioners and community members.

We are blessed with a solid team of leaders who are dedicated to the care of each individual parish, all the while focused on sharing our faith in the context of our Family of Parishes.
