Welcome Back!!
Welcome back to all students and families. I do hope everyone has had a restful and enjoyable holiday and
all are refreshed and ready for what promises to be an exciting and eventful term. Some of the events we
look forward to include: Education Week, Athletics Carnival, Book Week, Primary Proms and our Production.
Save The Date!
Education Week will be celebrated in Week 3 of Term 3. As part of our celebration of Education Week, the
school will be having Open Classrooms on Monday 5 August:
10.00 - 2.00pm-student work will be on display in the school hall for parents, grandparents and
family members to view
11.30 - 12.45pm-Open Classrooms. We welcome parents, grandparents and family members to visit
classrooms and engage in learning activities with their child
12.45 - 2.00pm-Picnic Lunch
An invitation will be sent out to families today.

Building Resilience– Session for Parents
A parent information evening on 'Building Resilience & Optimism in your Child' is being held on
Wednesday, 31 July. The evening will be presented by clinical psychologist Lyn Worsley who is the
director of The Resilience Centre.
Where: Lane Cove West Public School Hall
When: 31 July 2019 from 7pm to 8:30pm

Complimentary child minding (movie), will be provided by LCWPS teachers. Students must be signed in and
out of classroom 5A. Only Lane Cove West students can attend.
The parent workshop will conclude at 8.30pm, however, Lyn will stay back after 8.30pm to have a tea/
coffee with parents and answer any individual questions you may have.
Athletics Carnival
A reminder that the K-6 Athletics Carnival will now be held on Wednesday 31 July. Students meet their
teachers on the school oval for roll call at 9.25am with buses departing for Rotary Athletics Field, Mowbray
Road, Lane Cove North, at 9.30am sharp. Students will return to school by bus at approximately 2.30pm. If
you want your child to go home with another parent, a signed note must be brought in to school on the
day. All students should wear their school sports uniform (added house colours can be worn) and make
sure they bring along: warm jumper, rain jacket, water bottle, recess, lunch, hat, sunscreen and sensible
running shoes.
Science Day 2019
LCWPS is holding a whole school science day on Thursday 22 August. The theme this year is ‘Destination
Moon’. Hands-on science activities will be organised for children to participate in, including workshops run
by teachers and parent volunteers.
A note will go out shortly to all families with more information and an expression of interest for parent
volunteers.

Picking children up from school early
If you are picking your child up from school early, please come to the office to
sign your child out before going to the class. When you come to the office, you
will be printed out a slip of paper that needs to be signed and handed to the
teacher.
Schools Tree Day National Tree Day started in 1996 and has grown into Australia's largest community tree-planting and
nature care event. Schools Tree Day is Friday 26th July and we will have a selection of native tubestock for
each family to take home (via the oldest child in the family) on Friday. The native tubestock are kindly
donated by the Lane Cove Council. We hope you enjoy planting in your new tree!
Upcoming School Tour Dates and Information for 2019
Kindergarten Enrolments:
This term we will host two school tours and information sessions for families of children enrolling in
Kindergarten for 2020. The tour dates for 2020 enrolments are:
Thursday 8 August-9.45am-11.00am
Wednesday 21 August-9.45am-11.00am
If you have a child who will be commencing school next year, please come to the office to collect an
enrolment package or download an enrolment application form from the school website to ensure you
receive all relevant information. Please also let any neighbours or local Lane Cove West residents know that
the time to enrol is now. Kindergarten Orientation will be in Term 4.
Sports lessons– Coach Brown
Please be mindful that Coach Brown’s classroom is the school oval and teaching continues until school ends
at 3.25pm. We would appreciate parents keeping their younger children away from the teaching space and
sporting equipment. Please keep a reasonable distance from the class if you are walking past so that the
children’s learning can continue without interruption.

Congratulations Adam!
A big well done to year 3 student Adam M who has been spending
much of his free time picking up litter around the school, carparks,
parks and other school grounds. So far Adam has collected and
correctly disposed of over 5000 piece of rubbish! This is a great
initiative that our whole community can learn from.
