DESIGN INNOVATION
The Body is aero-dynamic
(the body is narrower at the front) Designed to overcome
friction The side of the boat minimizes the body contact to the water for less water friction The hollow space of
the main body to ease the movement of air through the boat
Uses low density material which decreases the mass (light)
PURPOSE
To use solar energy as a source of power for the boat
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
Solar panel are connected in series to maximize the usage of power to produce kinetic energy for the boat
HOW DOES SOLAR POWER WORK?
Solar power is the conversion of sunlight into electricity. In a crystal, the bonds [between silicon atoms] are made of electrons that are shared between all of the atoms of the crystal. The light gets absorbed, and one of the electrons that's in one of the bonds gets excited up to a higher energy level and can move around more freely than when it was bound. That electron can then move around the crystal freely, and we can get a current.
