Two-week ISTE Workshop on ‘Engineering Mechanics’
DECEMBER 2013 PAGE 1
A two-week ISTE workshop on „Engineering Mechanics‟ was held in the school from
26th November to 6th December, 2013. The workshop conducted by IIT Bombay, was a part of
the project „National Mission on Education through ICT‟, supported by MHRD, Govt of India.
Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru was one of the remote centers for the workshop. The
workshop was co-ordinated by Ms. Smita Singh, faculty in the Department of Mechanical
Engineering. The lecture transmission and live interaction took place through distance mode
using the A-VIEW technology and the internet. Around 18 faculty members mainly from the
Department of Mechanical Engineering actively participated in all the tutorial and lab sessions.
Dr. G.B. Veeresh Kumar from the Department of Mechanical Engineering was the coordinator
for the remote center.
The workshop concluded on 6th December, 2013 and Amrita School of Engineering,
Bengaluru hosted the valedictory function in co-ordination with IIT Bombay. Prof. U.N.
Gaitonde from IIT Bombay visited the campus for the valedictory function. Prof. V.S.
Chandrasekaran from IIM Bangalore was the Chief Guest for the function. The two hour event
was co-ordinated by Ms. Smita Singh and was telecast over 200 remote centers all over India.
ACM-ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest
DECEMBER 2013 PAGE 2
Amrita School of Engineering, Bengaluru conducted the ACM-ICPC International
Collegiate Programming Contest from 17th to 19th December, 2013.
Enthusiastic students from all over Asia participated in this prestigious competition.
Apart from the national level teams from IITs, IIITs and NITs, there were two international
teams from Taiwan and Bangladesh. ACM-ICPC was sponsored by IBM, Infosys, HackerRank
and Direct-i.
The day started with the inauguration ceremony followed by the practice session to
enable the participants to familiarize themselves with the rules and procedures of the
competition. Later the participants were taken on a short trip to Lalbagh Botanical Garden.
Finally, the day that everybody was eagerly waiting for arrived and excitement filled the
air. Once the competition started, all the teams were completely involved in solving the
problems and there was nothing that could distract them. As and when the teams solved a
problem, they displayed a colored balloon to indicate to the rest of the teams that they have
solved the problem. The team “Illusion” from IIIT Hyderabad was declared the winners from
Bengaluru campus. The competition was wrapped up by a closing ceremony with trophy
distribution to the world finalists.

QRC provides efficient and regulated switch mode power supplies for robotic and
satellite applications. This paper addresses the enhanced controller techniques for high
frequency isolation based push-pull Quasi Resonant Converter. This technique is similar
to the conventional PI controller technique but varies only the enhancement constants to
improve the time domain response of the converter. The proposed converter is designed
for low output voltage and power rating, characteristically 5V and 5W, with the
comprehension of current design trends towards enhanced performance. At the primary
stage, to validate the design of the converter, simulation is performed in PSIM for ±50%
load variations. A prototype model of this converter is developed. The results obtained
from the experimental set-up are presented and analysed in detail. The results reveal the
superiority of the proposed method.
