PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parent and Carers,

Business as usual for Krambach PS! I understand, as parents, you may have concerns regarding the possible impact of the Corona virus on your children. Please be assured that as any new information comes across my desk I will share it with you. The staff and I, just like you, are concerned for the safety and wellbeing of everyone at Krambach PS. All protocols and procedures provided by the Department of Education have been, and will continue to be strictly adhered to. I have included a parent information sheet with today’s newsletter which contains information on how you can support your child. We have been extremely vigilant with hygiene here at school and have delivered ‘handwashing lessons.’ We have taught the children to sing “Happy Birthday”, twice, and wash their hands for 20 seconds with warm, soapy water. Remember, good hygiene is paramount. Please keep your children at home if they are unwell, as is usual practice. Currently, Krambach remains to be a happy, healthy learning environment.

ATTENDANCE As mentioned above, school is currently business as usual. Below is a chart that shows the impact of regular non-attendance or consistent short absences.

This week our school has celebrated Harmony Week. Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Our students have been learning about different cultures throughout the week. We enjoyed a special presentation delivered by Isabel Bramble, sister of Ben and Isla. She kindly created a PowerPoint to inform us of how things are in Hong Kong, their home. She talked to us about their home and how they live in a small high-rise apartment, their money system, after school activities, transport and schooling. We learnt a lot! Mateusz and Oska Berry shared their heritage of Poland with us too. They showed us some interesting food, a map, and lots of interesting facts they had prepared. Tom Early showed us some things from the United states as well. Cruiz Tierney shared his traditional Greek costume and some interesting information about his family and their background. 3-6 also cooked some amazing noodles to compare our food with that of Hong Kong.

HUNTER HEALTH HEARING ASSESSMENT Hunter New England Health District have recently contacted our school to promote their Hearing services. Hearing services are available to all members of the community and are provided by qualified Nurse Audiometrists. It is recommended that all children have a hearing assessment before they start school. NABIAC SHOW AWARD WINNERS The students were so fortunate to have Nanna Judy support the students in creating vegetable displays for the Nabiac Show. Our students also entered art work including pencil drawings and clay sculptures. Some students were awarded places for their contributions and the K-2 class won the major award in their class. Congratulations to all students for their entries, to our award winners and of course to Nanna Judy, Mrs Durbin and Mrs Sansom.

STAFF SHOUT OUT This week’s staff shout out goes to Mrs Sansom for all of her hard work and efficiency maintaining all of the administration required in schools. She helps the staff with anything they ask with willingness and is always there to help our families. She is also amazing at finding handballs when most in need! Thank you, Mrs Sansom, you are appreciated!

K-2 LEARNING

Students in K/1/2 studied Poland during Harmony week and learnt lots of interesting facts. Did you know that 50% of the country is farming land? We made zapiekanka on Wednesday, a type of pizza bread and played kapela, a Polish ball game. Oskar and Mateusz bought in items to show. We listened to a story and a song and learned to greet each other saying 'Czesc'.

3-6 LEARNING

Some of the learners in 3-6 have work on an inquiry-based mathematics sequence with Ms Johnson this week and their brains got super ‘sweaty.’ The three-lesson sequence saw the students try to solve a problem about cupcakes. A bakery used a 4x6 cupcake tray. They used 40 trays per day. How many cupcakes did they bake daily? They had to show multiple solutions whilst thinking multiplicatively not additively. Once they solved this part, they had to box the cupcakes to sell in the store in efficient ways. Some students identified a pattern. They then had to find ALL possible solutions. Working together and sharing their thinking they decided that there were 28 possible combinations to box the cupcakes. I wonder if you can find them all??

SCHOOL BANKING

The Commonwealth Bank has unfortunately suspended all School Banking until next term. We will inform you as soon as they commence again.

HEATING STUDENT LUNCHES We have had recent discussions around the heating of student lunches with regional personnel. Due to Work, Health & Safety (WHS) concerns, it has been decided that we are unable to continue to do this. So, from Monday, NO student lunches will be heated. Students are welcome to bring a thermos with hot food as an alternative. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
