Hello Everyone

This week we have made some adjustments to our timetables, calendars and school activities because of the

COVID-19. Please read the attached letter that was sent out on Monday as a hard copy letter and on Skoolbag.

We will continue to update information as we receive directions from the department. In line with medical

advice at the moment, there is no reason why those who have not travelled should not be at school. The

expectation is where students have not returned from travel to China, Iran, Italy or the Republic of Korea

(South Korea) that students will attend school as usual.

We have also sent out Medical Alerts as a Whooping Cough case has been reported to the school. Please read

attached information.

We have mosquitos breeding in the Big Forest at the moment. At school we can not apply insect repellent. We

have closed the forest until it is safe to play there and our recess and lunch times are now staggered to

prevent overcrowding in our available play areas.

Penny Punctuation will be introduced to every K/1/2 classrooms this week.

She is ready to support students to use the correct punctuation in their

writing. Penny is in her special green Gi posing in a 'ready stance' for

Kung-Fu Punctuation. Children are taught the names of the different types

of punctuation and they learn to use them in their writing. Penny

Punctuation makes sure the students are ready and reminds them to use

the corrected punctuation. She also congratulates the students in their

learning.

Last Friday 3 of our staff members presented to staff the

knowledge they gained by attending a Numeracy Course

that focused on Number Talks.

Week 8 Term 1 - 18th March 2020

DEPUTY REPORT by Mel Fenton

This week we come together to celebrate Harmony Week in our

schools. Harmony Week is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a

day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. We join

Australia to celebrate the 21st anniversary of Harmony celebrations. It

aims to engage people to participate in their community, respect

cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for

everyone. Harmony Day creates opportunities for all of us to think, talk

and recognise how our differences make Australia a great place to live.

It is about focusing on inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all

Australians regardless of cultural background. Australia is one of the

most successful multicultural countries in the world and we should celebrate this and work to maintain it.

We beautifully wore our splash of orange on Monday to signify communication and meaningful conversations.

It represents freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect. Our cultural diversity is one of our

greatest strengths and it is at the heart of who we are. It makes Australia and Kororo Public School a great place

to be in.

In Term 1 2020, Kororo Public School Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 are taking part in the Tell Them From Me student survey. The survey will provide us with valuable feedback on what our students think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help them improve. The survey is completed online and is run by an independent research company, The Learning Bar, which specialises in school-based surveys. If you wish for your child not to participate in this survey please contact me via the school office on 66536201.

The students have been listening carefully and doing a great job

following our directions with regards to COVID-19 in schools.

Students all have soap in their classroom sinks and the school toilets

also have full soap dispensers. They are encouraged to wash their

hands when they enter the classroom from breaks and before and

after eating. The teachers also ask our students to use the correct

coughing and sneezing etiquette.

At Kororo Public School our motto is “Understanding Through

Communication.” If there is anything that I can help you with or you

need clarification about during this uncertain time, please don’t

student survey?

The Tell Them From Me student survey asks questions about factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other

outcomes. It aims to help improve the learning outcomes of students. The survey is designed to measure, assess and report insights

from the student point of view at the school and system levels. The focus of this NSW survey is on student wellbeing, engagement

and effective teaching practices.

The survey questions relate to the following measures for primary schools:

Data collected from the survey responses are quickly compiled into

reports for school leaders. Principals can then use this information to

help them identify emerging issues and plan for school improvement.

5. What does my child need to do to participate in the survey?

The survey typically takes less than 30 minutes and is conducted

entirely online through a secure website operated by the survey developers, The Learning Bar. Schools will make computers or

laptops available so that students can complete the survey during school hours.

6. Does my child have to participate?

What sort of analysis will be done on the survey data?

Once the surveys are completed by students, reports are prepared and in most cases are available to schools within three business

3/4 LIME

A classroom is a fun learning space and especially 3/4 LIME,

because we read every day and do Maths. We can sit

wherever we want to. There are standing areas behind the

tote trays, a low coffee table and lap desks to use on the

floor. We have a tee-pee, comfy chairs, pillows all at the

reading corner. Every day we learn something new. If you

come into this classroom I’m certain you will leave with a

smile!

Flexible Spaces In 3/4 LIME

I like this classroom because there are a lot of areas for

learning. We have lots of spaces to sit and we don’t have

certain spots to sit in every day. Some of the areas we can

sit are: lap desks, carpet squares on the bench, mini low

table and standing spaces. We have a tee-pee, pillows and

foam mats to read on. We have a soccer ball chair that you

blow up and will soon be getting some gym balls to sit on.

There is a certain corner in the room for reading. We can

make a lot of movement and we can be very flexible in this

classroom. We can have fun trying new things. We learn

hard but we still have fun at the same time. This is why I

like 3/4 LIME.
