Lessons Learnt

Trial compound skip bin removal

• Decision-making around variation to consented activities should involve Independent Monitor (IM) and Compliance Officer (CO) in future.

• Timely response to complaints and feeding information back to Complainant required (phone call, text, email, in person).

• There is a need to improve the complaint distribution process so that complaints are referred to more than one person.

• Variation to trial and consent may be warranted.

Overview

Canal performance in flood Cyclone Debbie • Greater than on in 100 year event (i.e. an overdesign event)

• Kopeopeo Canal filled close to capacity (still freeboard with no overflow)

• Water flows limited due to high levels in Whakatāne and RangitaikiRivers – gates remain closed and pumps operate

• Sampling and analysis completed along canal and at flood pump station

Comments on Traffic Management Plan (TMP)

• All contact numbers of staff who may work on this project should be listed

• It is not clear how speed restrictions will be enforced – communication is essential and should be clear

• Exit and entry to the site will be from the same point

• Communication between trucks coming onto or off the site and the controllers.

• The configuration of SH30 may require earlier warnings to motorists.

• Better linkage to conditions of consent, trigger levels and monitoring
