It was a night filled with music

and dance as Zee channel

stars rolled up their sleeves, put

on their dancing shoes and their

best vocals at the Zee Night

2010.

The event was held at

Merdeka Hall in Putra World Trade Centre,

Kuala Lumpur on Oct 2.

Performing at the musical extravaganza

were some of Zee channel's finest and popu-

lar stars like Jai Kumar from Dance India

Dance, Shakti Mohan, winner of Dance India

Dance, singers Rohanpreet, Harpreet Deol

and Sumedha Karmahe from Sa Re Ga Ma

Pa.

The channel's favourite on screen couple

Sushant Singh Rajput aka Manav and Ankita

Lokhande aka Archana of Pavitra Rishta

dazzled the audience with their contempo-

rary performance.

It was hosted by Dance India Dance host

Saumya Tandon alongside THR Raaga DJ

Anantha, who kept the audience entertained

with their wit and charm.

They took the audience through the

programme while making them step up and

dance.

The show was choreographed by

Bollywood's Swarup, who set the pace for

the evening.

The highlight of the show as well as the

audience's favourite were Jai and Shakti,

whose grace, style and coordination of move-

ments not only impressed the crowd but also

left them wanting more.

The overwhelmed performers managed to

entertain all present.

Indian soap opera leading couple Archana

and Manav took the audience by surprise with

their energetic dance routine.

'Manav' even proposed to 'Archana', who

instead asked the audience if she should marry

him in the serial.

Sumedha impressed the audience by sing-

ing AR Rahman's Chupke Se from Saathiya and

a few verses from the Tamil version of the

Snehithane song from Alaipayuthe.

Her melodious voice continued to mesmerise

audiences as she sang a few songs like Mere

Dholna (Bhool Bhulaiyaa), Aaj Ki Raat (Don) and

Jhoom Jhoom Jhoom baba (Kasam paida

a 'Retro' twist this year! Bringing in the fes-

tival of lights with a 3 hour bounty of nonstop,

Dil se Diya Vachan will redefine and

create a new vision regarding the

relationship of a saas and bahu. For a

change, the saas can be good with her

bahu and not only that but she also stands

by her and protects her when situation

demands and also how the bahu also

has complete faith on her saas and fights

with the world for her justice.

Saas Dr Kalyani's younger son

Shankar (our male protagonist) has come

to see Sumathi for a wedding alliance

but Shankar sees Nandini (our protago-

nist) and likes her. After a lot of opposi-

tion they finally get married. Next day

morning there is a kid at their doorstep

with a letter saying Nandini is the mother.

Dr. Kalyani keeps mum about things to

others and does not want a bad name to

her bahu Nandini which moves Nandini.

Dr. Kalyani doesn't speak to anybody

on this and starts her search for the truth

on this front. In the mean while there are

accusations on Nandini and is asked to

go through a test to prove her virginity.

Dr. Kalyani tests Nandini and is shocked

when she comes to a revelation that

Nandini had in fact delivered a kid be-

fore. However, she creates another

report and announces that she had not

delivered any baby.

Punjabi songs, which got the audience danc-

ing and rocking throughout the show.

Datuk D.J. Dave also entertained the audi-

ence with renditions of his songs like 'Ingin

Bersua' and some Hindi songs.

Koffee With Karan 3 is just getting bigger. Apart from Shah Rukh and Gauri

Khan, whose kids Aryan and Suhana will make their first appearance ever

on a chat show, the Starplus channel plans to bring the four Bachchans,

Amitabh-Jaya and Abhishek-Aishwarya together. And as if this is not enough,

Karan is learnt to have roped in Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar

as well.

Saurabh Yagnik, general manager and senior vice-president, English chan-

nels, Star India, confirms, "The Bachchans are definitely a part of Koffee With

Karan 3. As of now, we're not sure if we'll get them together since they are

very busy. But we're hopeful because they haven't made a chat show appear-

ance on national TV together before."

In the past when Karan had asked Aamir to go on his show, he refused

saying he did not want to be part of the rapid-fire rounds and those questions

that usually lead to the celebrity guests spilling secrets and saying things they

later regret; remember Bipasha Basu and Lara Dutta's comments about Amisha

Patel! Karan and Aamir have been spending more time with each other so

seems Aamir is finally willing to open up on the popular show. One can only

imagine the questions Karan will have ready for the superstar!

It was rumoured that the first guests on Koffee With Karan 3 would be Shah

Rukh and Gauri Khan with their kids. When asked, Yagnik says, "The guest list

is still being contemplated by Karan and the team from the channel. He's speak-

ing to all of them but nothing has been confirmed yet. We plan to take the show

beyond Bollywood stars."

Star Plus is finally going to bid good bye to one

of its most popular shows 'Sapna Babul Ka

Bidaai'. The Rajan Shahi's show is set to take

bidaai from the channel on November 13 in India.

As per the reports, the decision of closing the

show was taken by the channel 'Star Plus'. This

may come as shocking news to many of 'Bidaai'

fans. But, the channel wants to replace it with a

new show and they are adamant on this deci-

sion.

Initially, there were lots of talks to move the

show to an afternoon slot but the idea was re-

jected. Recently, 'Bidaai' has completed 700 suc-

cessful episodes. The show started on October

8, 2007. Since last three years, viewers have

lost interest in the show and its characters. The

story of two sisters touched everyone starting

from a housewife to a young college student as

it was a story of four young people.

Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan became popu-

lar as Sadhna and Ragini, the two female lead

characters. Actors Angad Hasija and Kinshuk

Mahajan were known by all as Alekh and Ranvir.

Recently, the show saw a seven year leap where

in the show missed

Sadhna and Ranvir,

who opted out of

the show.

A new drama

Telefilms, is likely to

replace 'Bidaai'.

This may come as shocking news to

many of 'Bidaai' fans. But, the

channel wants to replace it with a

new show and they are adamant on

this decision. Initially, there were

KARAN ROPES IN TOP GUNS FOR KOFFEE


Nachle Ve on Imagine is back again, this time with

two judges, Saroj Khan and Terrence Lewis.

Big names from the television industry have been

roped in as contestants. The contestants will be split

into two groups, that is Saroj Khan and Terence

Lewis's team. Each celebrity will have another ce-

lebrity as partner. They will have to go through

three levels of dance and have to compete with

the other choreographer's Jodi. The winning Jodi

will proceed through the grand finale.

The contestant list that has been confirmed

so far is Prarthana Behere, Neha Marda, Karan

Mehra (of Behenein fame), Piyush Sahdev, Richa

Soni, Naman Shaw, Ashita Dhawan, Chaitanya

Chowdhury, Jayshree Soni, Ishita Panchal, Ulka

Gupta and Swini Khara."

Talks are on with many other celebrities including

Harpreet Singh of Rahul Dhulaniy le Jayega fame and

Mishal Raheja.

Among the participants, Karan Mehra said "I am pair with Jayshree

Soni".

Piyush Sahadev said "I will be partnering Richa Soni, lead of

Bhagyavidhata." Ulka Gupta and Swini Khara will also make a team.

Rakhi Sawant's show is perhaps turn-

ing out to be more eventful than the

loud-mouthed siren had bargained for.

Recently, she had to seek help from her

bodyguards Karan and Arjun - on discov-

ering that a contestant had lied about her

married life, the spectators turned around

and pounced on Rakhi on

Imagine TV's 'Rakhi Ka

Insaaf'.

The latest incident was even more

masaledaar. Two contestants had come on

the show to seek justice from Rakhi. But

they got so worked up that they flung

chappals at each other, on national televi-

sion! On not being allowed to put forth her

views, the girl took off her shoe

and threw it at the boy, who, as

she says, had ill-treated her. Yeh

Punjabi talent hunt show held at the

Khalsa College ground. Both were

among the top ten singers who were

finalised after a series of competi-

tions among budding Punjabi singers

from all over the country.

Rajiee M Shinde of television

channel PTC Punjabi said the win-

ners would get a chance to record

an album with a reputed music com-

pany, besides other prizes. The win-

ners were selected by a team of

judges which included top singers

Hans Raj Hans, Sarabjit Kokewali,

Harbhajan Maan, Miss Pooja and

music director Jaidev. The show was

also marked by performances by

Sukhbir, Pooja, Diljit and Satinder

Satti.

The Star Studded Grand Finale of Vivel Miss PTC Punjabi2010 is being held at PAP Ground, Jalandhar on October

Blue is the first Bollywood underwater movie

full of action, adventure and thrills. The story

revolves around a treasure lying buried deep at

the bottom of an ocean. There are many people

who want to get there by risking life, be it theirs

or someone else's.

Sagar (Sanjay Dutt) and Sam (Zayed Khan)

are brothers who are interested in the trea-

sure. Along with Mona (Lara Dutta), Sagar's

Happy Singh (Akshay Kumar) is a simpleton,

from a village in Punjab, with a heart of

gold. He tries to do good, but exactly the oppo-

site happens. Frustrated, his village folk send

him far away to bring back Lakhan Singh a.k.a

Lucky, an underworld don in Australia.

But as always, the opposite happens.

Happy, accompanied by his friend Tony lands in

Egypt instead of Australia. Here he falls in love

with Sonia (Katrina Kaif).

Happy then makes his way to Australia. He

meets King Lucky, but due to an attack on the

gang, Lucky is hurt and now cannot speak a

word. After a lot of confusion, Happy is crowned

the King (don) of the dangerous underworld

gang. The rest of the hilarious story is about

how Happy succeeds in taking Lucky back to

his village in Punjab.

The movie is about a hotel owner

K.K.Singhania (Kader Khan) and a dhaba

owner who has a dhaba just outside his five

star hotel. The dhaba owner, Raja (Govinda) is

an honest but shrewd character. K.K.

Singhania's daughter Kiran (Raveena Tandon)

is a spoilt brat who is in love with Rahul

(Mohnish Behl). Rahul is a womaniser and after

her money. Raja saves Kiran from Rahul's

clutches and they both get together.

However, will they be able to get K. K.

Singhania to agree to their marriage? That is the

hilarious story.

Bhoothnath' is the story of a seven-year-old

naughty yet innocent boy Banku (Aman

Siddiqui) who unknowingly turns a foe into a

friend.

He is perfect Dennis the Menace. Banku loves

to play pranks, make up stories and trouble his

mom. His innocence is deceiving.

Banku and his mom come to Nath Villa which

is inhabited by a ghost who is stuck in limbo.

Banku befriends this ghost (Bhoothnath Amitabh

Bachchan) and helps him achieve salvation.

This is a story about innocence, honesty and

the pure love of a child. It comes with no ex-

pectations and no boundaries. This love can

make you believe in miracles.

The film is made under the banner of BR

Films. It is directed by Vivek Sharma . The music

is composed by Vishal-Shekhar.

A madhouse comic caper, Abhishek Sharma's

Tere Bin Laden is sure to make you laugh.

Ali Hasan (Ali Zafar), a reporter for 'Danka' TV

wants to go to America at any cost. He has had

umpteen rejections following 9/11 so he tries to

come up with cornball schemes to achieve his

sole ambition.

One of them involves creating the latest

Osama Bin Laden video in order to earn the big

bucks he requires to pay the agent who is go-

ing to give him a new identity and passport.

Luckily for him a chance photo-shoot at a cock-

a roo competition gets him the perfect candi-

date, Noora, a Punjabi poultry farmer (a perfect

doppelganger for Osama) who also trains

cocks for the homegrown cuckudoo-coo cham-

pionships !

Abhishek Sharma's script has zany and

highly entertaining elements and his narrative

too is imbued with the same sense of fun, en-

ergy and excitement.

A "Dil Chahta Hai" male-bonding fable with

loads of double-meaning, jokes, provoca-

tion and finally a neatly "conservative" ending

that says, 'Hey guys, fun done, extramarital

peccadilloes over. Now it's time to tell you that

marriages are for keeps.'

While their wives stay at home, skirt chas-

ing is their game... Misogyny, homophobic and

sexist jokes abound.

And if you thought upmarket actors were

above double-meaning jokes, then wait till you

hear Vivek Oberoi and Ajay Devgan comparing

wives and girlfriends to home cooked food and

biryani.

But hey, it's all in fun! And our three principal

stars Meet (Vivek), Amar (Ritesh Deshmukh)

and Prem (Aftab Shivdasani) seem to be full of

the fun factor. The actors give their roles a

certain zany twist, which goes a long way in

preventing the satire from falling apart.

wife, they travel to the Bahamas in search of a

mysterious treasure hidden 200 feet deep within

the sea.

Along the way, they meet Aarav (Akshay

Kumar) who is searching for the same trea-

sure. But they don't know that Aarav is a devi-

ous con-artist who would stop at nothing to get

what he wants. The treasure is guarded by

sharks, sting rays, and other marine animals.

The rest of the story deals with the four char-

acters diving deep within the sea in search of

the treasure.

When Salman called, the beauties

had to answer! It was raining

beauties at the HDIL Being Human

Fashion 2010, in Mumbai when Salman Khan

stormed the ramp with some of the most

beautiful faces in Bollywood. Not even his

ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif could give the

'Dabangg' superstar's invitation a miss and

was seen in a pink top with the words 'Be-

ing Human' written on it across the chest.

It was a moment of frenzy for the audi-

ence when Salman took over the ramp.

What followed left the onlookers amused

and 'entertained'. The attendees did not

have the faintest idea, what 'Being Hu-

man' show had in store for them.

Salman unleashed a never seen be-

fore euphoria on the ramp and the

crowd was thrilled to see Salman

walking the ramp with sizzling beau-

ties including Katrina Kaif, Kareena

Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Preity Zinta, Rani

Mukerji, Bipasha Basu, Karisma Kapoor and

Sushmita Sen along with her daughter

The show started with the dimply beauty

Diwali is big in my house. The

whole family gathers together.

We play cards. I don't buy new

clothes now. We have visitors and

we have a lot of friends over too.

We celebrate all the festivals

in our house. During Diwali

we play cards. Javed adds,

"Diwali is my occasion for

gambling. We've always cel-

ebrated Diwali, eaten

sweets, and participated in

house, Diwali and Holi are cel-

ebrated on a large scale. To-

day, though I enjoy these festi-

vals, it is more for their cultural

aspects. In Lucknow during my

childhood we celebrated Diwali

with diyas, and that was a differ-

ent atmosphere completely."

Diwali? We have a pooja at

home and then we go to visit

people. The usual stuff. On

Dhanteras I do buy Gauri jewellery

-- sometimes!

MAHIMA CHAUDHARY

Each year Diwali is different. Though the one thing I always seem to

do is eat those happy ghodas and kheer patashas. Right from child-

hood I've been doing this. Mum still brings them, I don't know where

from... I associate Diwali with the time when even long-lost family or

friends remember to send a card. I do burst some crackers, but I think we

were more intrepid as children. Now the noise is more offensive. New

clothes also went out with childhood.


RAAGESHWARI

Even talking about Diwali makes

me happy. It means getting to-

gether with both my grandmothers.

I like the entire city being lit up. It's

a sign of joy. As kids, my brother

Rishabh and I used to love crack-

ers, but we couldn't afford them.

But now that we can, we don't

care for them too much. Diwali

means lots of mithai, lots of guests.

We invite kids from the building and

have a special dinner for them.

GULSHAN GROVER

I celebrate Diwali in a very traditional way with pooja. I clean up the

whole house if I can't repaint it. Then in the evening I have Laxmi Pooja

and I don't go out of the house till midnight and keep the front door open

so Laxmi can arrive. I don't believe in crackers. I believe people should

donate that money.

Alka YagnikDiwali is a welcome festival but the

noise and crackers are something

I prefer to keep away from. The

smoke affects me so badly that my

throat becomes sore. So I hide

myself in a corner and keep away.

There's always lots of mithai, we

dress up in special clothes and all

the hustle-bustle that goes with

Diwali is on. But you'll find me hid-

ing in a corner till it's all over.

NANA PATEKAR

Diwali is not a festival we cel-

ebrate in our family. We never

have done. Now though my son

likes crackers I am a passive spec-

tator. We don't have pooja or any-

thing like that. We reserve that for

Ganpati. I think perhaps because I

never got to burn crackers as a

child, I deliberately keep away

even now, as a sign of resentment.

MANISHA KOIRALA I like doing Rangoli during Diwali,

and I light the traditional diyas made

with oil and cotton wicks. But I don't

like the bulbs which most people

use nowadays. I don't like crack-

ers. I like to do pooja with the idols

to create a festive atmosphere. My

mother reminds me to buy some-

thing on Dhanteras and I do, just to

feel like a part of tradition.

SONU NIGAM

Crackers have never been my

cup of tea but this year for

some reason I feel like bursting a

lot of crackers and doing every-

thing I don't normally do. In my fam-

ily my mother, my sisters and I are

absolutely sweet freaks, so we eat

a lot since we have an excuse to

do so. During my childhood I par-

ticularly remember the thrill I got

when I discovered that I could burst

atom bombs, holding them in my

hands. Now we have pooja at

home. A ritual we always follow is

to distribute money to the poor.

TABUWe celebrate Diwali as if it's our

own festival. We eat lots of mithai,

visit people, wish them, play cards,

dress up... all of it. We look for-

ward to the festival as much as

any other festival and enjoy it tre-

mendously. We go to visit Shabana

and Javed, then Baba and Tanvi In

each of these places there is a big

celebration, card-playing and par-

ties... Only we don't drink.


Malaika Arora Khan is not an actor, never

mind the odd itsy-bitsy role in the odd for-

gettable film. Yet she has lasted in the film in-

dustry for over a decade. "I'm pretty much pe-

ripheral in terms of Bollywood, but yet in a way,

because of the family I am married into, and my

songs, I am Bollywood," she says.

She is, rather, Bollywood's Shakira of item

numbers, the Item No. 1. A 35-year-old mother

of a seven-year-old son, and still the stuff of

male fantasy: when she teases a small town in

Uttar Pradesh to distraction as Munni in Dabangg,

the front-benchers and multiplex janta both go

wild. She is also, by the way, the producer of

Dabangg but Malaika will forgive you for letting

that fact slip. "With me it's always the songs…it's for my item numbers that I'll be part of this

country's cinema library."

It all started on top of a train. The year was

1998 and the film Mani Ratnam's Dil Se. Malaika

did the Chhaiyya Chhaiyya with Shah Rukh Khan

and we all know how that turned out. Twelve

years later, the "item number" is alive, though

perhaps not flourishing, and she is still at the

top. Offered "a song a day". It's a fact of the

business: if an item song is the masala

your film needs, Malaika is the go-

to girl. In an industry where

leading ladies turn into wall-

flowers in less than half a

decade, what's the secret of the dream run?

"She's sexy, she's beautiful and she's a very

good dancer," says choreographer and direc-

tor Farah Khan, "but then so are a lot of girls

out there." The difference, Farah says. Is in

the way she has planned her career. "Malaika

has an edge because she has chosen her

assignments wisely, maintained her exclusiv-

ity and is extremely professional. That's the

reason she has lasted so long," she says.

That, and the backing of one of Bollywood's

most powerful film families.

The item number business started as a lark

for the Khan bahu. Make-up artiste Mickey Con-

tractor suggested her name to Farah Khan,

then on the lookout for a dancer who could

hold her own against Shah Rukh Khan in Dil

Se. After that romp on a train hurtling through a

lush Ooty countryside, her decisions have

been well thought out. She is serious about

her "item queen" tag, meticulous about re-

portantly, will not

movie.

In a statement that can hardly qualify as

modest, Bipasha Basu has said that it is

she who made `being sexy' a trend in

Bollywood - a trend that many of her con-

temporaries followed.

"When I entered the film industry, I was

called the `unconventional one'. I was the

one who showed that being sexy was

fine, and other actors eventually followed

the trend. The dusky complexion also be-

came a hit, thanks to me.

I have carved a niche for myself, and

people now take me seriously. "The ac-

tor, who was recently part of Salman

Khan's Being Human Show in Mumbai

with other actors such as Katrina Kaif,

Preity Zinta, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka

Chopra, says, "It was a fabulous show. It

was a great opportunity to meet every-

one and work towards a noble cause."

So, is she friends with all of them?

"Friend' is a very strong term. To be

honest, everyone can't be a friend, but it

is great to cordially meet one other once

a while."

SEXY FIRST

With teasers for two of Deepika Padukone's fi lms -

Break Ke Baad and Khele Hum Jee Jaan Se - out in quick succes-

sion, the lady's back in the limelight.

Here's striking a conversation.

Did you get along with your Break Ke Baad hero Imran Khan?

He is really sweet. Actors tend to give and take a lot. We had a lot of

rehearsals for the film because the dialogues demanded it. They are not

dialogues, they are conversations, which two people in a relationship

are likely to have.

You have created quite a furore with a recent interview in which you

have revealed that your boyfriend cheated on you.

If it is in the interview, then I must have said it.

Was it directed at Ranbir or someone else? Can you please clear the air?

I have not named anyone in the interview. People have the habit of

assuming a lot of stuff and jumping to conclusions. So let's move on and

not keep harping on it.

BETWEENSHOOTS

Shooting for films is not as easy as people think; it involves a

lot of hard work. Sometimes, actors have to wait almost

endlessly in between shots while the camera is being set up in

the next location. So stars were asked what they do in between

shots when they have time to kill.

SHAHID KAPUR: I play music and start

dancing. I normally don't find time on shoots,

but if I have time, I ask my fans on Twitter to

chat and ask me questions. Also, dancing was

a hobby which is now my profession, so I

play music and start dancing. I also love my

bikes, so if I have taken my bike with me to the

shoot, I often go out of the studio for a ride.

AKSHAYE KHANNA: I play chess as I find

the game very interesting. I have played chess

with everyone from my actors to my direc-

tors. I have played it with most of co-actors

from Race to Naqaab to Short Kut etc.

BARBARA MORI: Earlier, I used to smoke; but now

I have quit so I have lots of coffee and try and concen-

trate on my role. When I do a film, I only think about it. I

had tried giving up cigarettes for seven months but

when I did a film in which I was shown smoking, I slipped

back into the habit; but now I have given up the habit for

good.

ANUSHKA SHARMA: I'm a voracious

reader, I love reading everything from fiction to

non-fiction to romantic novels etc. So I read

books in-between shots. Also, I listen to a lot of

music. When you are from Bangalore, you have

a certain amount of rock influence. So, I listen

to rock music as well as soft rock like U2,

Coldplay etc.

BOMAN IRANI: I watch a lot of DVDs in-

between shots, I carry them from home. A

while back, I was shooting at DY Patil sta-

dium so I carried DVDs of Casablanca, Burn

After Reading, MASH etc. Also, I carry my

camera with me and whenever I find some-

thing interesting I go clickclick! I shot a lot of

pictures during the shoot of Well Done Abba

and Housefull recently.

Guzaarish (Request).The verdant green landscape, the mag-

netic blue waters and the warm bright sun-

shine of beautiful Goa is home to one of the

greatest magicians of his time, Ethan

Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan). Presently

hosting a Radio Show that spreads magic

and hope and laughter through his irrepress-

ible wit and humour to every listener and

caller, it is difficult to imagine that this is a

man who has been immobilized with a spinal

injury for the last fourteen years of his life.

Ethan is aided through every moment of

his present life by the epicentre of his world

- his beautiful nurse, Sofia D'Souza

(Aishwarya Rai). Theirs is a love beautiful in

its implicit silence, unwavering in its quiet

strength and spirited in their constant verbal

sparring.

On the fourteenth anniversary of his ac-

cident, Ethan decides to seek control over

his own life. He makes a petition to the Court

that shocks the world and leaves Sofia in an

impasse that challenges their relationship

and their love. Alongside all the tumult that

follows, a young man named Omar Siddiqui

bursts into Ethan's world with a single-minded

desire to learn magic from the very best.

While on one hand Ethan passes on his

magical legacy, on the other, he fights tooth-

and-nail to demand the most basic right that

every human being is entitled to - the right to

his own life. The ethics, the morality, the kind-

ness and cruelty of this mission creates a

storm in all the lives that it envelops and its

resolution forms the startling conclusion of

Ethan's remarkable journey.

Hrithik says playing a paraplegic asking

to be granted death by consent changed his

outlook on life and taught him gratitude as he

spent time with several patients.

But the star maintains the film

doesn't take a stand on the is-

sue of mercy killing.

"It's an individual story of

Ethan and not about the issue

of mercy killing. It's about the

strength of a paraplegic, who

lived a full life for 14 years with-

out being depressed. He wrote

books, he got the president's

medal, awards, he gave

sermons...that is what the film

is about," Hrithik said in an in-

terview.

"This film has changed my life. When your ap-

proach to things changes, you don't worry about

the small things in life, you don't grumble, you

don't get irritated. You learn gratitude, that's what

this film has taught me," Hrithik added.

Working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali was a

treat for Hrithik. He says, "Before I started work-

ing with him, many people told me that he was

eccentric that he would shout and so on. I was a

bit scared because I am a very sensitive actor. If

someone yells at me on the sets, I just stop work-

ing and leave. But when I started my work with

him, I was spellbound. The way he takes care of

his cast is amazing. We clicked right from the be-

ginning. We shared a great equation."

Hrithik may have played a superman in 'Krrish',

but he feels his character in 'Guzaarish' is that of

the coolest superman. "This character is very spe-

cial and different from the others I have played till

now. This man on the wheelchair is the coolest

superman. Since I have met people like this, they

are the real heroes for me. They kept me happy

and energetic. They shared a lot with me: ideas,

jokes and their feelings. I am just representing

one of them.

"While playing this character I felt I should not

let them down. I will be working for them for the

rest of my life. It's sad that we don't have a proper

organisation which can take care of such people."

Hrithik adds that playing the character has brought

many changes in him as a person. "Earlier I was

slightly irritable by nature. I would get edgy at

times and not take problems as part and parcel of

life. But now I am a changed man. I try to walk

ahead no matter what the problems."

The word 'Guzaarish' means 'request'. So what

is that one thing Hrithik may have asked from his

elders or the Almighty? "I do not remember having

asked for anything as such. I've always believed

in karma. Also, I have always got what I have

desired through my hard work and determination."

experience some form of reflux. If you are con-

What are the signs?Most babies appear to have no other signs

of distress from bringing up part of their milk

after some or all of their feeds. If they are happy

and their growth and development is fine then

there is no need to do anything (except have

plenty of cloths on hand).

For some babies, bringing milk and/or food

from the stomach into their throat and mouth

may cause them pain. These babies may.

• Be irritable and cry excessively

• Have a fever

• Show blood in their vomit

• Arch their backs and fuss when trying to

feed

• In severe cases, the baby may not gain

weight or even lose weight

What is the treatment?Quite often it is about finding the right posi-

tion to hold your baby whilst feeding them, so

ask your family and child health nurse for sug-

gestions on wrapping and positioning. Gravity

plays an important role - try to gently cuddle

your baby in a more upright position after their

feed. Try smaller, frequent feeds. If all of the

above measures fail you might discuss with

your healthcare professional the need for spe-

cially developed thickened formula.

Billu, a poor barber from a small town struggles to support his family. His

children are on the verge of being expelled from school due to non-

payment of fees. Then everything changes when Bollywood actor Sahir

Khan (played by Shah Rukh Khan) makes an appearance to film a movie in

the town. Rumors spread that Billu is Sahir's close friend, and he becomes a

celebrity virtually overnight. His shop gets donations and clientele and the

school decides to educate his children for free. The trouble begins when

town's folks insist on meeting Sahir but Billu is unable to contact him.

Kareena Kapoor is playing a tomboy char-

acter for the first time on Golmaal 3, be-

ing directed by Rohit Shetty.

The director didn't want her to do the glam

doll act once again. He wanted her to be part of

the gang of boys comprising Ajay Devgn,

Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu

and Shreyas Talpade.

A source reveals, "Kareena sports casual

wear in the film. No designer dresses, shoes

and bags for her. She plays a badass who

spouts abusive tapori language and rides

around on a bike. She will be seen doing dadagiri

like boys in gangs."

Shetty adds, "She's 'one of the boys' in the

film, and will sport minimal make-up. Her char-

acter in the film is not that rich. We have taught

Bebo some exciting language. She's already

become one goonda now!"

Talking about her groovy moves, Bebo said,

"My audience expects me to be sexy and siz-

Based on the Hollywood flick 'Phone Booth' (2002)

by Colin Farrell Knock Out has the shell of the Hol-

lywood movie but inside carries the body of its own. It

largely makes a point at the corrupt political system in

the country where the top brass of netas stuff their

Swiss bank accounts with the hard earned money of

general public.

The protagonist, Irfan Khan playing Bachchu Bhai

alias Tony is an investment banker who accidentally

comes across a nameless caller Sanjay Dutt at a public

phone booth. He holds Tony hostage at gun point and

directs him to do what he wants him to do.

The movie opens up the ugly face of corrupt politi-

cians and ends with a dramatic action sequence at the

climax. The audience may find the story stereotyped

Three college students disappear in a remote

village dominated by caste politics. An army of-

ficer, Ajay Devgan, and a CBI officer, Akshaye

Khanna, are sent to investigate the high profile case

which has become a burning national issue. They

discover it's a case of honour killing but must lock

horns with the local opposition -- corrupt cops, goons

and netas -- before they can hope for closure.

Priyadarshan takes a break from his staple

diet of comedies and moves to serious territory

with Aakrosh. Now this isn't an alien zone for the

filmmaker who has already proved his forte with

tackling themes of gravitas in films like Gardish,

Virasat, Kala Paani and his National Award win-

ner, Kanjeevaram. In Aakrosh, he goes topical with

his attempts to unveil the horror of the recent spate

of honour killings, which have relentlessly made

headlines.

The disappearance of the three college boys

in the small hamlet is linked with a love affair that

goes sour due to the insurmountable caste barri-

ers that govern social life in this not-so-distant

terrain. What follows is a deafening culture of

silence and a brutal cover up where anybody

who dares to speak up is summarily done away

with by the caretakers: the cops, headed by

Paresh Rawal, the local ruffians and the politi-

cians.

as the entire film is placed at the same phone booth

with the same characters Sanjay Dutt on one side and

Irfan at the other. Nevertheless it is a good experiment

by director Mani Shankar and has Sanju Baba in his

ever popular style and Irfan Khan giving his splendid

best. Kangana Ranaut acts as a press reporter.

Knock Out is thought provoking and a thriller but

looses its grip in between. Actors possessing huge

caliber like Irfan Khan are seen strip teasing at the

phone booth. He is shouting, dancing but could not de-

liver what was expected of him and this is primarily

because the script is such. With due respect to the

actor, the film might have turned out well but neverthe-

less it can be watched once.


AJAY DEVGN'S little bundle

of joy, Yug, was born during the aus-

picious Ganesh Festival. The actor

is proud to become a father for the

second time. "It is a great feeling.

Yug means an era," he smiles.On the career front, Ajay already has had

three hits this year and three of his forthcoming

films look very promising. "You could say that.

Atithi... Tum Kab Jaaoge? was a comedy,

Raajneeti, a political thriller and Once Upon A

Time In Mumbaai, a crime drama. Aakrosh, an

action film, has been released. Two more being

released in the next two months are Golmaal 3,

a comedy, and then Toonpur Ka Superhero, a

live-animation film. Look at the variety! Doing

different things all the time keeps me going,"

says the powerhouse performer. Looking dap-

per in a T-shirt that says 'Not Made For Love'

and funky dark shades, he admits that even the

audiences expect him to do diverse roles. But

isn't it quite a task doing six films in a year? He

grins and says, "Shooting is not tiring but pro-

moting the film is." He recalls that this is the

second time that six of his films are being re-

leased in a year.

"I think it was in 2003 that six of my films -

Company, The Legend Of Bhagat Singh,

Deewangee, Qayamat, Bhoot and Chori Chori -

were released," he says.

Meanwhile, he has been so tied up with his

own work that he is yet to see his wife, ac-

tress Kajol's two releases this year My Name Is

Khan and We Are Family. He admits candidly

that it may be some time before he can actually

get down to watching these films, as he starts

work on Rajkumar Santoshi's Power and

Priyadarshan's Tez in the coming days.

Ajay is quite excited about Aakrosh as it is an

action film, his favourite genre. It is also the first

time that he is working with Priyadarshan. He

says that Priyan should do more of action films.

"I have seen his work in Virasat, Gardish, Sazaa-

e-Kaala Pani and even some of his South Indian

films. He is fabulous. While comedy has worked

for him, I think action is his forte. He has a tre-

mendous sense of cinema and understands the

nuances of action, aggression and emotion,"

says the actor, who plays an Army officer and a

Dalit in the film. He is sent to a village on special

duty after three youth go missing. Aakrosh is a

topical film based on the rampant honour-killings

in Northern India. Ajay says that he did a lot of

research for his role by reading up the subject in

daily newspapers. But he found the script, writ-

ten by Robin Bhatt and his team, very impres-

sive. Deeply affected by the issue, the actor

wonders why such things are allowed to hap-

pen in this day and age 'when India is progress-

ing so well in all quarters'.

After Deewangee, that was released in

2002, Ajay teams up with Akshaye Khanna again

in Aakrosh. The actor recalls that it was like old

times and they hit it off instantly. After the out-

and-out comedy All The Best, Ajay will also be

seen with Bipasha Basu in this action thriller.

"In All The Best, she was a glamorous girl while

in Aakrosh, she has gone de-glam. But she

seemed very comfortable in Indian attire," smiles

Ajay. He is also all praise for Paresh Rawal,

who plays a villain in the film. "Paresh is a spon-

taneous actor. He can give his shot, even a

very intense one, and get back to masti-mazaak.

His funda is 'Give a shot and forget it'."


INGREDIENTSParwals, peeled, slit and seeded 250 grams

Mawa (khoya) 1 cup

Sugar 1 1/2 cups

Green cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon

Almonds, chopped 10

Pistachios, chopped 10

Milk powder 2 tablespoons

Soda bicarbonate a pinch

Saffron (kesar) a few strands

Silver warq to decorate

METHODTo make the stuffing roast the khoya on

medium heat till it becomes soft. Add half cup

sugar and continue to roast. In another pan boil

the remaining sugar with one cup water to make

a thin sugar syrup. Add green cardamom pow-

der to the khoya and mix. Take it off the heat

and add almonds and pistachios and mix. Add

milk powder and mix well. Transfer the mixture

onto a plate and cool. Heat water in a deep

pan, add a pinch of soda bicarbonate and the

parwals and boil for two to three minutes. Drain

and put them in the sugar syrup and cook till

they soften. Drain and cool. Stuff them with the

khoya mixture. Sprinkle a few saffron strands

over each parwal and decorate with silver

warq. Serve cold.

INGREDIENTS

Strawberries 14

Long grain rice,

cooked 1 cup

Sugar 2 tablespoons

Cream cheese 2 table-

spoons

Cream 1/2 cup

Eggs 2

Brown sugar 2 tablespoons

METHODPreheat the oven to 180oC. Chop ten strawberries

roughly and put in the mixer jar. Add sugar, cream cheese

and cream and puree Add eggs and blend again. Divide

the rice between four ramekin moulds. Pour the straw-

berry mixture over. Sprinkle the brown sugar equally

on top in each mould. Cover with the lid and place in

a tray with a little water in it. Bake in the preheated

oven for forty five minutes. Cut the remaining straw-

berries into fans. Place a strawberry fan over each

ramekin and serve hot or cold.

A perfect way to end yourmeal- strawberry and rice dessert.• Preparation Time : 15- 20 minutes
