Those high expectations are possible because of the past leadership of Notre Dame Council 10514. Programs have been established through the years that make our council an exemplary group of Catholic men serving our church and community. In particular, please join me in thanking our immediate Past Grand Knight, Pat Mulvihill and his wife, Jackie. They both selflessly gave of themselves so we could all enjoy a successful year. Pat, his officers, and his committee leadership teams accomplished so much during the last year due to their hard work and dedication. He is leaving ‘big shoes to fill’! We would be remiss if did not thank Former District Deputy Dan Nagy and his wife, Ruth, for doing an awesome job as our District Deputy for the past two years. FDD Nagy will be serving our council as Recorder. He is passing the District Deputy baton to our newly appointed District Deputy, Kevin Ryan. DD Ryan is a two-term Past Grand Knight of Council 10514. We wish DD Ryan and his wife, Denise, much success! (see article at bottom of page 2) Plans have been completed for our participations in the Flagler Beach 4 th of July Parade (see flyer page 6). We could like to see a ‘sea of green’ at the parade so please come and wear your council shirts! Your family is invited to walk or ride in the parade. A flatbed truck has been arranged, courtesy of John’s Towing. Please let DGK Ron Wolak or myself know if you will be attending and if you would like to ride on the ‘float’. This will help us ensure we have an adequate number of chairs set up on the float (arrange for a second truck, if needed) as well as help our cooking crew prepare enough food for the council picnic at the parish hall after the parade. Parking and access to the church can be an issue so please plan on arriving a little early. We will muster for the parade at 9:30 AM. We have a lot of activities planned for the 2019-2020 fraternal year. We need YOU to maximize our success! Let me suggest a few ways you might assist the council in that success: Become a member of a committee - look over the list of committees and find one that you feel shares your passion. Call the chairperson (in bold) to volunteer your time and talent. Suggest activities or fundraisers – perhaps you have experience at another council with an activity or fundraising event that was successful. Pass those ideas along. It just might be something we could implement here. Volunteer – big or small commitments are welcome, “many hands make light work”. Take Pictures – Almost everyone has a smartphone so you are ‘camera ready’ at any council event (include a KofC logo, if possible). Photos can be emailed or sent by text to me at [email protected] or 386-315-1043 for possible use in the council newsletter, council website, newspaper, or church bulletin. Recruit new members are the life blood of any council. Fellow parishioners, family members, and neighbors are good places to find prospective members. Many men are looking for ways to give back, you just have to ask them! Pray – for the success of all our Faith in Action programs (Faith, Family, Community, Life). Jesus looked at them and said, “… for God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26) Brothers, please pray that we might be spared the wrath of any storms during this hurricane season. “Oh God, Master of this passing world, hear the humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee obeyed your order and returned to its former quietude. You are still the Master of the land and sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control; the gulf & ocean, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land, and spread chaos and disaster. During this hurricane season we turn to you, O loving Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose memories are still so vivid and whose wounds seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask you to plead with your Son on our behalf, so that spared from the calamities common to this area, and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will walk in the footsteps of your divine Son to reach heavenly Jerusalem, where stormless eternity awaits us. Amen.” Imprimatur: August 29, 1967 +Maurice Schexnayder | Bishop of Lafayette in Louisiana Vivat Jesus, Mike
