AUTHOR, TITLE, CALL NUMBER This allows you for search for a specific Author, Subject (Library of Congress Subject Heading), Call Number, Title, or Journal Title. All titles are included in the Title search, but if you are specifically trying to find holdings for a magazine or journal, you may have faster results using the Journal Title search feature.

Quick limits can be used to preselect search results for recent records, listings in audio or video format, or library-specific listings. The number of records displayed per page can also be chosen. This can be helpful when printing or saving marked listings.

RELEVANCY RANKED – This feature is available as an option in Author/Title/Call Number searches. Searches with Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT) can return results that are ranked for relevance by choosing “Keyword Boolean with Relevance” in the “Search By:” option box.

SETTING SEARCH LIMITS Search limits can be set from the LUIS opening menu before you begin searching, or during your search process (Set More Limits button at bottom right of search screens). However, you will have to retype your search if you set limits after you've started searching. Search limits are in effect until you undo them, start over, or close the browser -- changing search types does not erase the limits. LUIS will warn the user whenever search limits are in place by displaying the phrase “Search Limits are in Effect!” in prominent blue type above the search input box. Search limits can be cleared by clicking the Erase Limits button at the bottom of the search options box. When search limits have been set, the erase limits button is also available on the search screen itself. Limits can be changed by clicking the “Set More Limits” button at the bottom of the search screen.

INTERPRETING RESULTS Your search results will appear in a listing as shown below. Clicking on any part of the entry will access the record for that item. The “Sort By:” pull-down box allows listings to be further arranged in order by Title, Author, Publication date, and Publication Date Descending.

The final search tab on the LUIS search screen allows users to find items on course reserve.

It is usually necessary to choose only one pull-down box option to find what you are looking for. Additional information on course reserve can be found on the Library’s main web site by accessing the course reserve menu as shown:
