Security Certification – European Context The EU security market, which is strong and fast growing:

Includes very different types of products and services Is supplied by very varied stakeholder group (technology, cost structure,

size, manufacturing methods, supply chain, revenues, customers, etc.)

There is a distinct lack of categorisation method of security products, which leads to: Absence of effective policy to regulate liability by setting quality standards Lack of definitions which services and products fall under specific criteria

There is also a plethora of assorted standards and certification schemes for security products, systems and services and there is a distinct lack of harmonisation and mutual recognition of these schemes across Europe.

This prevents European companies from becoming security market leaders and effective global competitors.

Objectives CRISP aims at facilitating a harmonised playing field for the European

security industry by developing a methodology for security product certification.

CRISP will enhance existing security certification schemes by offering an innovative evaluation methodology that integrates security, trust, efficiency and freedom infringement assessment dimensions

The proposed scheme will be based on a taxonomy encompassing a variety of security products and services across applications, and will take into account the varying roles of the diverse stakeholder group

The key project output will be an EU Security Certification Manual, which will leverage the information gleaned from the analysis of existing certifications
