2020 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame The Delaware County 4-H Youth Committee has selected Loras and Jolene Bagge for the 2020 Iowa 4-H Hall of

Fame. The couple will be inducted into the 2020 Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame during a virtual ceremony on Sunday, August 23.

Two ceremonies will be streamed online to recognize this year’s honorees. Loras and Jolene will be recognized during the

1:30 p.m. event. Visit www.iowa4hfoundation.org the day of the ceremony to locate the online event.

Loras and Jolene Bagge were so impressed with how 4-H made a difference in the lives of their children that they

continue to support and volunteer for the Delaware County 4-H organization. They find satisfaction in volunteering for 4-H

knowing that it gives children the opportunity to participate in the organization. Loras grew up in Delaware County and was

a member of the Dyersville Junior Farmers 4-H club where he was enrolled in the swine project area. Now, Loras is a 4-H

Volunteer Leader on the 4-H Youth Committee and currently serves in the role as chairperson. You will find Loras helping

at the fairgrounds before fair starts and during fair week getting things set up for 4-H members’ projects or volunteering at

the 4-H Food Stand. He enjoys fair week as he gets to see the 4-Hers’ success with their fair projects. For his dedication

to the organization, Loras was the recipient of the 4-H Alumni Award. Loras and Jolene also sponsor a trophy for the

poultry project.

Jolene was a volunteer 4-H leader for the North Fork Kit Kats

and North Fork Wildcats for several years. She continues to volun-

teer during fair week on judging day. She also volunteers at the 4-H

Food Stand during fair week. Jolene judges 4-H projects at local

fairs and for local club achievement shows. She enjoys seeing the 4-

Hers’ creativity and hearing their stories about being in 4-H. Jolene

was the recipient of the 4-H Honorary Award for her countless volun-

teer hours with the organization.

Loras and Jolene live on a dairy farm southwest of Dyersville.

Loras is also a bus driver for Western Dubuque Community School

District. Jolene works at MercyOne, Dyersville as a charge nurse

and at Beckman Catholic High School and St. Francis Xavier Ele-

mentary in Dyersville as a school nurse.

Loras and Jolene are members of the Basilica of St. Francis

Xavier Parish. They volunteer as eucharistic ministers, and Jolene

is a member of the bell choir. They have served as General Chair

Leaders in the past and continue to volunteer for different functions.

They are the current co-chair leaders for the Corpus Christi Picnic.

They are also members of the Delaware County Pork Producers

where Loras served on the board and as board president. They continue to volunteer at grilling events. They are also

members of Delaware County Farm Bureau.

Loras and Jolene have four children: Brian, Krystal, Tim and Nick. All their children are 4-H alumni of the North

Fork Wildcats and North Fork Kit Kats Clubs. Jolene and Loras enjoyed helping their children with their 4-H projects. They

enjoyed seeing their children grow into independent adults, volunteers, and leaders because of their experience in 4-H.

2020 State Fair Exhibits Judged Virtually!

In place of the Iowa State Fair, this year they are offering a virtual submission of exhibits called “4-H Show Iowa”.

We know this will be a bit different from having an exhibit at the Iowa State Fair. However, Iowa 4-H believes in providing

evaluation feedback for members in their project work and wants to continue to showcase the best of the best around the

state.

The intent is to have all exhibits evaluated by August 12 and results shared back with counties by August 20. These

dates are tentative. We hope there are minimal challenges with the virtual showcase, but it appears this is the year for the

unexpected. Please do be patient as we all work through new processes.

Results will be sent to exhibitors and posted on the Delaware County 4-H Facebook page and in the September 4-H

Newsletter. Good luck to all our static exhibitors!!

COUNTY RECORDKEEPING AWARDS County awards are available to junior members for outstanding recordkeeping skills and to intermediate and senior members for project work.

To apply for these awards, fill out the front side of the awards application and include it inside the front cover of your recordbook before turning it in to your club leader. The club leader will complete the back before bringing the recordbook into the office by October 4. Fill out and attach the "Awards Consideration" form (on the bottom of this page) to the outside front cover of your record. Extra forms are available at the Extension Office.

These two sheets are required only if you apply for county awards.

For project awards, you must have records for at least two years including the current year because the committee needs to see growth in that project area. Project awards can be received only once as an intermediate and once as a senior. Juniors (4-6 graders) are encouraged to apply for special Junior Recordkeeping Awards but they are not eligible to apply for project awards.

4-H RECORD BOOKS DUE TO LEADERS BY SEPTEMBER 21!

4-H recordkeeping teaches the important life skill of keeping accurate records. Recordkeeping is an on-going process that doesn’t end when the 4-H year ends. 4-H recordkeeping should reflect the member’s

goals, accomplishments, and future plans. Forms are available online or at the Extension Office. If you have any questions on rec-

ord keeping please contact Kenzie!

4-Her’s are encouraged to develop a system that includes: Records for one or more projects, Completion of Yearly Summary, and

Self evaluation.

Tabs can help you find what you’re looking for quickly. Arrange your records with the most current material in the front. One way to

arrange could be:

1. Expected Standards for Delaware County 4-H program

2. 4-H Yearly Summary

3. General clippings and photographs

4. Project A

• Current Year Project record

• Current Year Project clippings and photographs

• Previous Year’s Project record/worksheets

• Previous Year’s Project clippings and photographs

5. Project B, C, D, etc. Arrange the same as Project A

6. Put records of non-current projects in the back of your record.

4-H RECORD FORMS ARE

AVAILABLE ONLINE!

If you prefer to use your computer

instead of a pen to complete your rec-

ord keeping forms, check out the web
