Support tools
Abri-Check WebIt makes financial sense to monitor the pad consumption closely, and that is why Abena has developed our Abri-Check-Web service.
¡ Abri-Check-Web provides a specific consumption overview both for each ward and for the whole institution.
¡ Abri-Check-Web is a simple user-friendly system. Being web-based, the system is housed on a server at Abena, which means that all you require is access to the Internet and a Windows-compatible computer.
¡ Abena maintains all information on products and prices. The individual ward only has to register consumption and enter the data into Abri-Check-Web.
¡ The data entered into the Abri-Check-Web offers the possibility of forecasting future consumption in a given period, which makes it easier and safer for the ward to prepare budgets and order goods.
Besides incontinence products Abena offers a wide range of support tools in addition to Continence Management. Abri-Check Web is a software programme which provides valuable feedback following the keying in of information from user cards.

Assessments and management of incontinence – minimal care principles
Abena has developed different assessment charts supporting the minimalcare principles. They are simple but efficient tools to evaluate the degree and type of incontinence and they help to secure optimum care keeping the end user in focus in a cost-efficient way.
Fluid chartThe fluid chart identifies the type of incontinence and whether urination training, change of habits or treatment is necessary. The fluid chart is also applicable for evaluation of an actual treatment.
Pad weighing testThe weighing test is carried out by weighing the pad before and after use. The weight increase is equal to the urination amount. The weighing test provides an objective evaluation of the degree of incontinence.
Pad consumption surveyThe pad consumption survey includes registration of each changeof pad for a minimum of three days.
The survey indicates: ¡ If the correct pad and size have been chosen ¡ The pad changing regime and shows whether the pad is changed
at the appropriate time/frequency
User CardsThe user cards provide continuity in the care taking as they clearly describe when the client should be assisted to the toilet and when aids should be applied.
¡ Individual aids ¡ Individual toilet schedule ¡ Individual changing frequency

Definition:
“Urine incontinence is every kind of involuntary urinary
leakage”.
(International Continence society 2005)
• There are many and varied possible causes of
urinary incontinence
• The patient should be offered a thorough
assessment according to the ‘minimal care
principle’ i.e. simple, non invasive assessment
methods should be used
• This should be carried out by a nurse who
specialises in this particular discipline
Who needs assessment?
Anyone who requests incontinence aids. The initial
request may come from:
• The patient
• Homecare
• The doctor
Correct techniques
for assessing incontinence
for those suffering from urine incontinence
Consultation with
the General Practitioner
When visiting the GP, the client must bring the data
collection analysis and the fluid chart
Visit the assessment program for general
practice at: www.dsam.dk
Follow-up visits
Assessment of the effectiveness of the initial
evaluation and the aids used
1. Visit (duration approx. 1 hour)
• Data collection
• Urine analysis
• Analysis of hygiene and the skin in the genital region
• Analysis of the need for filling out a ‘Continence
Fluid Chart’
• Analysis and evaluation of the data collected
2. Visit (duration approx. ½ hour)
• Analysis of ‘Continence Fluid Chart’
• Analysis of data collection
• Evaluation of data collection
• Assessment of the need for aids
• Eventually a further assessment with the General
Practitioner will be required
3. Visit (duration approx. ½ hour)
• Final evaluation of the data collected
• Implementation of treatment as outlined by the
General Practitioner
• Assessment of the requirement for aids

Abena produces by far the largest range of fixation products to match different user groups, and also for extreme sizes. The Abri-Fix range has been developed in close co-operation with end users, care staff and our own nurse specialists.
Normal underwear is not ideal as a fitting product, since there needs to be room for the absorbent product to fit inside, securely and comfortably.
Needs and requirements for a certain quality and price mix can vary greatly, depending on whether the products are for short term or longer term users, or whether the products are for institutional or private use.
