We had another meeting this week that was a little short on members but we did get some things accomplished. First off, I would like to thank those of you that were able to make it out and represent our Chapter at the RFTW, The Relay For Life Cancer Walk, and the concession stand at the JC Brigade game to name a few. I enjoy riding with and being with all of you at these events and others. I’ll give you a quick heads up that we will be riding in the Sundown Salute Parade on July 4 at 10 a.m. More info to come on this as it gets closer. Another item that we have that may come up is we are talking to the JC Brigade about having a Harley night at one of the games coming up. We would ride around the warning track at Rathert Stadium before the game to get the crowd fired up. No dates for sure at this time. I would also like to thank Linda Rush for her “What is it” at the last two meetings. She had a calf weaner at last month’s meeting and a pig snout clipper at this month’s meeting. She wants to try and do this each month and it is another fun part of the meeting that you have to be there to enjoy. I sent a note to MDA to see if they will want us to ride down to Rock Springs for their summer camp this year which usually happens during the first full week of July. I will keep you posted on this as well. In the meantime, saddle up, let’s ride. The June 9, 2014 meeting of the Junction City HOG Chapter was called to order by Director Mike Rhodes at 7:01 pm. The group held a moment of silence followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Birthdays for the month of June included Tim Grosser-25th, Norma Ford-15th, and Dan Jones-10th. Dan and Shirley Jones had an anniversary on the 20th.Correspondence for the chapter was the 4th of July paperwork for the Sundown Salute parade, with a theme of “Let Freedom Ring.” The chapter was reminded of the rules for not throwing candy during the parade unless

you were walking along the side. The bill for Mary’s Floral also arrived. Carol made a motion that it be paid, Andy seconded it.Two announcements were made: TJ & Robin had a baby boy Tuesday, June 3, at 2:06, 7 lbs. 7 oz., 19” long. JoAnn McIntosh passed away with the gathering of remembrance held from 4-6 on June 5th. JoAnn’s husband cooked for some of the chapter activities years ago.Under old business, this was the second month to discuss the changing of the name of the chapter to Flint Hills. The information and discussions from the last couple of months were repeated in case some were not at those meetings, and then it was opened up for clarification and further discussion.Several chapter members helped at the RFTW event, holding flags and handing out zipper pulls.Steve, Carol, TJ, Honey, Len and Mike showed up to ride at the Relay for Life event.Steve, Carol, Kevin, Karen, Mike, Len, Shawn, and Orin worked the concession stand for the JC Brigade game on the 7th, although proceeds were not known at the time of the meeting. Some members also participated in the Governor’s Freedom Ride. Claudia Perry took home three plaques, including Governor’s Choice, People’s Choice, and 1st in her category. The Markley’s attended the state rally and reported a good time for their first rally attendance. One note of discussion on the floral arrangement that the chapter provides each year for the RFTW was that the Purple Heart in the middle is an actual Purple Heart that was donated by the Purple Heart Association, and that Chuck Ford acquired for the chapter for this purpose of honoring our vets. Don Rush made the actual floral stand.Officer Reports:Director Mike RhodesAss’t Director Deb Auld: currently on “grandma leave”Secretary Vonda CopelandTreasurer Karen Connell: Karen gave the account updates.Editor Wanda AllenRoad Captain Frank Gonzales: looking for ride ideasSafety Charlie GwaltneyActivities Carol Ebersole: still months away, but if you have suggestions for our annual Christmas gathering, let her knowLOH Sue Gwaltney: watch emails for the Wednesday dinner ridesPhotographer Deb Auld: still on “grandma leave”Membership Vonda Copeland: 121 members so far in 2014Webmaster Orin Auld: Door prize winner was Ray Evans!Historian Janet YoungDirector Rhodes once again won the 50/50, $28.50 to the chapter and $28.50 to him!Linda Rush followed up on her “What is it” activity. JUNE 2014 3(Minutes continued from previous page)

Posted on April 16, 2013. See more of Jeff’s blog at http://jmadog.wordpress.com/It’s been a long time. Years. A certain period of time in your life when the weather was just winter or summer. Nothing in between, just one or the other. We were either going to school or we were out for the summer, and as kids that was all we knew. As we got older, we started to notice the difference in the seasons and that there was actually a clock on the wall. Life was going on around us and we were taking in the view beyond the grasshoppers, mud puddles and those really straight sticks you would find every so often that you couldn’t stand to leave behind. We were growing up.

All of a sudden life became a little bigger. Where you sat in the car became somewhat of a status symbol. Back seat – a friend, front seat passenger side – good friend, driver seat – popular with your friends, and sitting in the middle of the front seat – girlfriend. At this stage we were just trying to figure out what we were going to do next Saturday night, not what we were going to do with the rest of our lives. We looked forward to the weekends for reasons other than getting caught up on yard work. Motivation by recreation. But we keep getting older and that clock on the wall keeps ticking. It’s funny, as kids we didn’t notice the clock on the wall and time literally stood still. Now the clock is such a big part of who we are and what we do, it demands our attention. Like it or not, it’s ticking. But as young adults we were starting to realize that there was something bigger coming down the pike.I’ve ridden motorcycles for a lot of years and just like my friends who played sports in school, I found a sport that I connected with. Somewhere in the middle of White City Kansas as I was riding a wheelie through one of those mud puddles, it should have hit me then that this is what I could be doing for a living. At seventeen, having the 8-track stereo in your car and enough money for pizza and a movie with your girlfriend was the depth of my focus, not a career in the motorcycle business. Looking back there were a couple of things I would have focused on more and that could have directly changed my life. The winding road of life can take you to places you never dreamed of. Sometimes it’s the long way around and sometimes it was the obvious route that our stubborn, teenage pride or angst ignored. Either way, the old saying “it’s not the destination, it’s the journey” holds true. So here I am, fifty years old and working in the motorcycle business, motivated by one of the things I enjoy doing. The clock is still ticking and I’m still intrigued by a really straight stick when I see one, but I’ve learned to leave it on the ground. I’m riding and writing about motorcycles and my life of growing up in a small town in hopes that someone will find a little humor in it. It has taken a few years but it has finally dawned on me that life is as big as you make it. And I’m in the driver’s seat!

City Cycle Sales has welcomed the troops back and are welcoming some better riding weather back, as well.We had a great Garage Party for the women with a good turnout. Thanks again, Sue, Claudia and Carol, for helping City Cycle Sales. Thanks also go to members of the Christian Motorcycle Association in our area for helping with the parking at the Governor’s Freedom Ride. The Boot Camp is coming up June 25 for new riders. If you are interested, please contact me at the

dealership, 785-238-3411.We are having some great sales each day and the new clothing line for men and women is designed for fun and style.Dean is real busy in the shop, and he tells me that he can still get you in for Sturgis. We finally have riding weather and everything is so green. Please watch the sand and pot holes as you ride.Claudia won Governor’s 1st Choice, and other awards. Thanks to Steve and Carol Ebersole for helping with the bike show.

A lot of our bikes have spoke wheels and require special care. The spokes should be checked any time you’re cleaning your bike, when a new tire is put on and before a long ride.Working on spoke wheels is becoming a lost art, which I notice more each year. My Harley reps tell me that I am one of the few left in there 22-dealer area that is a wheel builder.I learned as a teen from racing dirt bikes at a shop that was very into racing. Over the years I’ve probably built at least 1,000 wheels. Not an easy job to teach someone, to build them, that is.

It would be a good idea if you have a bike with spoke wheels which has a tube in it, to ask about who is changing your tire and checking your spokes. If you come by, I will show you a few tips on how to check them and what to look and listen for.
