One God, One Love, One Gift
Dear friends on the journey,
Have you ever been amazed, or even baffled, by the deep love someone has for you? Or received a gift so unexpected that
you are mystified by the thoughtfulness and love behind it? Got it in your mind? How did you respond? Did you see that
person in a new way? Did their love cause you to act differently, and not by way of reciprocation but because their love just
changed you?
Now multiply that love by a gazillion. That is God’s love for you and his gift to you is Jesus, the way of salvation. Today’s
gospel is John 3:16, probably the most quoted and known scripture passage of all time. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only son…” God’s love is manifested in gifts to us. At the beginning of salvation history, God gave us the earth and
all her creatures and plants to enjoy. Through the chosen people, the Israelites, God called us into a covenantal relationship.
Then God’s ultimate gift of Jesus fulfilled the covenant and brings us believers back to God’s self to live a glorious eternal
life.
As Christians, our salvation comes through belief that Jesus is our way to eternal life. I have known this intellectually but to
be quite honest, it wasn’t until my Fundamental Theology class at the seminary five years ago when I had a profound moment
that my heart just suddenly knew it. I truly felt God’s love for ME and knew that Jesus died for ME. When our hearts know it,
our natural and only response is to live it by being the best Christian we can be and sharing that reality with other.
Our response is to see the world as God sees it, to see all of God’s creation as good, to love others just like God loves us and
be in relationship with one another. It sounds simple but to our human eyes and hearts it can be much more complex.
Focusing on the cultures and peoples that please us is much easier but dangerously comforts us. Relating to and loving the
others becomes more difficult or impossible.
We are not seeing much love these days. News and social feeds are filled with images of death, hate, destruction, and
division. From Covid 19 to acts of racism to looting to earthquakes to our own personal traumas, we are suffering and
hurting. We are frustrated and angry. What do we do with all of us this?
I think we take it step by step. First, we care for ourselves. Sit with our thoughts and feelings, taking it to God in prayer then
listening. Embody scripture especially today’s gospel and second reading: “mend your ways, encourage one another, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.” We
remember that we are called to act with love, patience, kindness, humility, compassion, and empathy. We remind ourselves
that the God made every human being beautiful and good, in a wide array of color, voices, and smiles among many cultures,
foods, dances, and traditions. All life is sacred, and no one should be left behind to be sick, hungry, homeless, devalued,
dehumanized, discarded.
Then, we turn to appropriate action. Everyone will be different. Perhaps it is through education and awareness, moving from
reaction to conversation, physically standing in solidarity, working for systemic changes and equality, putting one’s self in
another’s shoes, righting a pained relationship, putting on God’s eyes to see.
Whatever it is, may it be with kindness and God’s love. Your response could
just be the gift that changes one person, one heart, and one mind at a time.

Teach Children Everyday Actions to Reduce Germ Spread
It is appropriate to frequently remind your children about ways to
avoid or minimize the spread of germs and to start practicing at
home. Tips: Stay away from people who are coughing, sneezing, or
sick. Remind them to cough or sneeze into a tissue or their elbow,
then throw the tissue into the trash. Teach children to wash their
hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after
blowing their nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom;
and before eating or preparing food. If soap and water are not
available, teach them to use hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer should
contain at least 60% alcohol. Supervise young children when they
use hand sanitizer to prevent swallowing alcohol. For more

Reopening of Our Parish
• Public Sunday Masses at 9:00 am and 11:00 am will begin on June
14
• Because we have a 100 person limit, preregistration will be
required and available one week at a time
◦ The online Mass will continue at 10:00 am.
◦ Weekday Mass will also begin, if sufficient people volunteer
to help welcome parishioners, check for face masks and hand
sanitizing, and to clean the seats after each service, on June
15 at 8:00 am. Masses will be held on Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Preregistration will be
required, unless the number of attendees is well below the
100 person limit then we will revisit.
◦ Neither the state of California nor the archdiocese have
placed any age restrictions for participating. They both
heavily recommend people over 65 not attend, especially if
you smoke or have high blood pressure, diabetes, respiratory
system disease, or cardiovascular disease.
How to register and a video explaining how to participate at Mass
will be announced during this Sunday's Mass Livestream. Visit

Prayer Life
Faith Sharing Question
Reflection questions for every gathering around any table. John 3:1618 ~ God so loved the world that he gave his only Son
Today’s Gospel passage tells us the depth of God’s love and
generosity and that belief in Jesus, God’s greatest gift to us, is
salvation. If you were to encourage the members of your own family
and parish to live as a “community of love,” which is how we define
the Trinity, how would you advise them to live? Use St. Paul’s list of
exhortations as your starting point.

Pray
Last Sunday, we received the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost
Sunday. This Sunday we are reminded in the Gospel that: “God so
loved the world that He gave us his only Son…..”
Jesus gave us the gift of a beautiful prayer that we pray together
every Sunday when we gather for Mass, the “Our Father.”
Together as a family, consider this 2minute Catholic Kids Media
meditation on the “Our Father”: Click on this link:

music rendition of the “Our Father.”

• Write a thank you note to God for the gift of His love and
mercy and how you will show your love for God this week.
• Create and decorate a “Gratitude” basket or box. Have every
member of your family read aloud and share their thank you
notes to God, then place the notes in the gratitude basket/box.
Place the basket/box in a prominent place in your home so that
whenever you pass by it, you are reminded of God’s love for you.
Living Faith
Reopening Help
The new guidelines require volunteers for some of the new safety
and health requirements. In the words of the archbishop, “Highrisk
individuals (e.g., people who are 65 and older, who are
immunocompromised or who have underlying health conditions)
should be discouraged from serving in any capacity that brings them
into contact with others.” With that in mind I ask any parishioner of
high school age or older, who is not health compromised, to consider
assisting us in one of the following ways:
Volunteers
• We need many volunteers, either to exchange unused chairs for
clean ones or to sanitize the chairs in place between the Masses.
• Because we can only have 100 attendees, for the time being, we
need volunteers to guide parishioners and count them as they
enter.
• We need to create a rotation on the tech team to serve as camera
operators for livestreaming.
• The state has asked us to take temperatures, make sure all have
masks, and ensure the use of hand sanitizing before entrance into
the body of the church. We will need volunteers to assist us in
those tasks. We are in the process of gathering safety equipment
to make this possible in as secure a way as possible.
• The archbishop has also allowed us to open our holy places for
prayer, but only so long as there is someone to oversee the safety
of all who come. So the parish needs parishioners to serve as
hosts at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. We will determine the
opening hour based on the availability of willing hosts.
If you can assist in any of these tasks, please email Jane, our
receptionist, at [email protected], and be as specific as you are
able with your availability, contact information, concerns, and which
tasks you are open to undertaking.
The Most Holy TrinityGod became human when Jesus came into the world.
Jesus showed us God's love through the miraclesand good works he did in his life.
And then he made the ultimate sacrifice:he was even willing to die for us.
Write the words below in correct number orderto find out why God sent Jesus,
and then say a prayer of thanks for this great gift.
