OPEnIng uP OPPORTunITYThursday, June 4 | 9 – 10 a.m.

Open source, open data, open access — these are quickly creating a new standard for transparency. How are corporations and government agencies becoming more efficient (and more accountable), and how does this affect consumers and constituents who increasingly demand nothing less? A leader in the “open” movement, David Eaves will discuss the benefits of a corporate bias that favours transparency and information sharing. Exploring the practicality of a revitalised knowledge base that thrives on the contributions of the many over the few, he will present access to information as the key driver for building our industries, businesses, society, and economy.

A ReCognIzeD PuBlIC THInkeR, David Eaves knows how to open things up. He’s an expert in public policy, strategy, open government, open source, negotiation, and collaboration. As a negotiation expert, Eaves advises on critical negotiations, such as the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement. He is a prolific writer, contributing to the Toronto Star and the Personal Democracy Forum, and has published chapters in several books, including O’Reilly Media’s Open Government and The New Journalist, a university textbook published by Emond Montgomery Publications (EMP). Eaves, who was appointed to the Ontario government’s Open government Taskforce, sits on the Federal government’s Open government Advisory Panel and is a past-member of the City of Vancouver’s Digital Strategy External Advisory group.
