13th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Today’s Gospel provides a ‘story within a story’. One is a story of a healing involving blood and in the other a young girl is brought back to life. The stories unfold uniquely wrapped one around the other. The initial story is about the little girl, interrupted by the story involving a long-suffering woman bleeding for 12 years. The story then returns to the little girl who, according to friends of the family, has been declared ‘dead’. Both stories are significant for the matters with which they deal. Anything in the ancient world related

to blood had great significances. Blood is the ‘life source’ and therefore undeniably important but loss of blood was clearly a ‘death source’. The eating of animals that had not been properly drained of blood was a practice strictly prohibited and was the source of the Kosher Laws. Touching a dead body clearly made one impure. Note that the observers of the little girl claimed she had died. This was not a body to be touched by Jesus and yet He declares her to be sleeping and gains the ridicule of the crowd. In both stories, Jesus goes to the untouchable – to the ‘place’ that would render someone unclean or impure. This is a blood story and a death story. He touches the untouchable and brings forth healing and new life. There is no doubt about it. In the eyes of Mark Jesus is clearly from God and does what no one else can and is even able to bring new life out of places of impurity and from the unclean. Jesus’ comments are simple and direct: “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction;” and “Do not be

afraid; just have faith.” Into commotion and grief Jesus brings hope, healing, peace and life. This is no ordinary man – but truly a man of God. * Who is ‘this man’ for us? What does He offer? What can He bring about in our life? Can He truly bring healing and life out of the impurities and ‘dead things’ within us? Are we really called to place our trust and hope in Him? Can we go to Him seeking inner truths and deeper significances in the dead ends of our lives? Today’s biblical stories bring a resounding “YES” to the power and love and hope that is Jesus!

13 Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario — El Evangelio de hoy ofrece una "historia dentro de una historia". Una es la historia de una sanación que involucra sangre y en la otra, una niña vuelve a la vida. Las historias se desarrollan de forma única envueltas una alrededor de la otra. La historia inicial habla sobre la niña, interrumpida por la historia de una mujer que padecía flujo de sangre desde hacía doce años. La historia luego vuelve a la niña que,

según amigos de la familia, había sido declarada ‘muerta’. Ambas historias son significativas para los asuntos que tratan. Todo lo relacionado con la sangre en el mundo antiguo tenía un gran significado. La sangre es la ‘fuente de vida’ y por lo tanto es innegablemente importante, pero la pérdida de sangre era claramente un "signo de muerte". El ingerir animales a los que no se les había drenado la sangre adecuadamente era una práctica estrictamente prohibida y era la fuente de las Leyes Kosher. El tocar un cadáver lo volvía a uno impuro. Tomen en cuenta que los que presenciaron el evento de la niña afirmaron que había muerto. Que nos ofrece? Que puede traer a nuestras vidas? Puede verdaderamente traer sanación y vida de las impurezas de lo que ‘está muerto’ dentro de nosotros? Estamos realmente llamados a depositar nuestra confianza y esperanza en Él? Podemos acudir a Él en busca de verdades internas y signifados más profundos en los callejones sin salida de nuestras vidas? Las historias bíblicas de hoy y traen un rotundo “SI” al poder, al amor y a la esperanza que es Jesús!

¡BIENVENIDOS!

La semana pasada se reanudaron nuestras celebraciones de la Eucaristía DENTRO de la Iglesia.

Aunque las personas completamente vacunadas tienen pautas moderadas, todavía se exige que, cuando estén en negocios y en lugares concurridos, tanto adentro como afuera, usen mascacarillas. Por lo tanto, en las Misas, tendremos que seguir usándolas e intentaremos distanciarnos y, por supuesto, higienizar nuestras manos y nuestras instalaciones.

El Arzobispo también da su total aprobación al regreso de nuestras celebraciones dentro de la iglesia y, si bien la transmisión en vivo puede continuar, el Arzobispo nos exhorta a regresar a las celebraciones en vivo, ya que no hay nada que se compare con la presencia real entre nosotros en la Mesa Eucarística del Señor.

Los coros NO se reanudarán por el momento. La regla hasta el hoy será la misma, limitando los cantos principalmente con un cantor. Tal vez, para el mes de Agosto, podremos volver a la normalidad. Si tenemos la seguridad de poder regresar antes, lo haremos.

Finalmente, nuestro Santo Padre el Papa Francisco (después de recibir ambas vacunas) nos exhorta a hacer lo mismo. Ciertamente, como su Párroco, espero que usted haga todo lo posible para recibir las vacunas y ponerse tanto a usted como a los demás en un riesgo mínimo. Gracias a Dios que se han estado tomando nombres y números de teléfono y observando dónde se han sentado las personas en la Misa, no hemos visto evidencia de ni siquiera ‘1’ caso del Covid proveniente de nuestras celebraciones congregadas. Agradecemos a Dios por la buena salud de toda nuestra gente y va nuestro corazón y nuestras oraciones por aquellos que han perdido familiares y amigos por Covid. Que Dios, a su debido tiempo, sane y lleve a la paz a quienes han sufrido pérdidas y enfermedades durante este tiempo.

WELCOME BACK!

Our Saturday/Sunday Celebrations of the Eucharist started INSIDE the Church last weekend.

Although fully vaccinated people have relaxed guidelines, it is still mandated that when at businesses and in crowded venues both inside and outside, masks are still requited. So, at Masses, we will continue to wear masks and attempt to distance ourselves and, of course, to sanitize our hands and our facilities.

The Archbishop also gives his full approval to a return of our celebrations inside the church and while live-streaming may continue, the archbishop strongly encourages people to return to live celebrations as there is nothing to compare to actual presence with one another and at the actual Eucharistic Table of the Lord.

Choirs will NOT resume at this time. Limited singing with primarily a cantor is to be the rule still at this time. Hopefully by August we will be able to return to the more normal at that time. If it becomes abundantly clear that we can return sooner – we shall.

Finally, as our Holy Father Pope Francis (after receiving both vaccinations) has encouraged us to do, it certainly is my hope as your pastor that you would do all that you can to receive the vaccinations and put both yourself and others at minimal risk. Thanks be to God having been taking names and phone numbers and noting where people have been sitting at Mass, we have not seen evidence of even ‘1’ case of the Covid coming from our assembled celebrations. We thank God for the good health of all of our people and pour out our hearts and our prayers to those who have lost family and friends to Covid. May God, in good time, heal and bring to peace those who have suffered loss and illness during this time.
