Sweet By Cherry Ma

I ate a candy,

It was from Mandy.

It was sweeter than ice-cream,

It was so yummy that I could

scream.

I am sure bees like it,

It must be better than what they

eat.

It felt like eating a bowl of sugar,

And soon I will be fat like a bear.

Sally Snake’s Wish By Jasmine Wai

I’ll tell you the story of Sally Snake.

She had a goal she wanted to make.

She loved to jump

Just like a pump.

She folded her tail just like a spring

And started her life of jumping.

She bounced all day long

Until the bell rang, “Ding-Dong.”

She jumped until her tail was

swelling.

Spreading out from her wound

was something disgusting smelling.

She dropped on a stone,

And she hurt her backbone.

But she didn’t care,

She could sit in a wheelchair.

And when she wanted to jump like a pump,

She would go to Ocean Park and play bungee jump.

Witches By Cherry Ma

They are ugly.

They don’t study.

But they aren’t silly.

And they are very greedy.

They may sit on a broom

And fly out of your room.

So go out and play,

On Halloween day.

The Rabbit’s Wish By Jerome Lee

A long long time ago,

There was an adventurous rabbit in the forest.

I’ll tell you the story of the cute rabbit.

He wanted to pass the swimming test.

He walked a long long way,

And arrived in a city called Hong Kong.

He found a swimming pool and a swimming

coach.

The coach’s family name was Wong.

He tried to swim all day,

So that he could learn well.

But the unfortunate thing was

he was too heavy and fat.

When he sank to the bottom of

the swimming pool,

He found a way to float on the water.

And the swimming coach also taught

him how to swim.

So, he had done what he had wanted.

He started to swim seven days a week.

But the water was freezing.

So he always felt that he was weak.

Luckily, his swimming skills were rising.

When it was the competition day,

Rabbit swam fast and beautifully.

He gave some presents to the coach

To whom he was grateful.

Gingerbread Man By Rachael Chan

Oh! Christmas

is coming again! I

can hear the bells

ringing loudly. They

are very noisy. AH!

My goodness, I see

the cook is coming!

Oh no! I do not

want to be the same as my father. I

remember that last year, after the

baker put my dad in an oven, he became

very black, and the smell in the oven

was very nasty. Oh! I do not want to

remember that disgusting thought again.

Oh, please! Don’t put so much

chocolate on me. It’s so ugly and I think

the buyer will not like me. That is good, my

lovely baker. You put less chocolate on me,

and that is more beautiful. I look good.

Hey! The oven is too hot. Colder please.

Yes, now the temperature is just right.

Thank you!

It’s time to put a big ribbon on my

neck. Hey! Don’t put me near the flour. The

flour is now on my body. If there is a lot

of flour on my body, the customer will

think I am too ugly, and I will be thrown

away. Thank you for taking away the flour

on my body. Oh! It’s time to put me on the

shelf. Wow! A lot of friendly people are

coming to the shelf. Oh! All the people are

only buying the gingerbread men near me.

Please, buy me! I do not want the baker to

throw me away.

Ah! I see a little girl is coming. She

put her hands on my body. Oh! She bought

me! Put me into your mouth. I want to be

eaten. If no one buys me, that means I am

too ugly, and I will be thrown in the dark

and nasty rubbish bin.

It’s time to say goodbye! Let’s have a

happy Christmas! Merry Christmas! Oh! Oh!

I feel ticklish! The little girl’s teeth are

very sharp, and now she is eating me! Oh!

That’s itchy! Bye! Bye!

Gingerbread House By Emily Ip

Oh! It’s so itchy because

the children always touch me.

Hey! Don’t touch my chimney!

Don’t you know it is ugly to put a

strawberry on the chimney? Oh,

you! Not you, with the black

glasses and big eyes! Your hands

are very dirty! Don’t touch me!

Ooops! You took away my door

from me! Give it back now! Oh no,

don’t eat my door. I am still

uncooked. Look! I am still light

yellow. You don’t know about

that? I haven’t been put in the

oven!

Ah! Thank you for your

help, Aunt Selina. I am grateful

to you. You helped to put the

beautiful blue window on me.

Children, you should put the

cream on me after I am baked. Oh no! Please!

Don’t put me in the oven. I want to be cooked

because I will be more beautiful, but I’m scared

it will be too hot and dark. I’m scared of the

dark! Oh yes, it’s hot and dark in here. Oh dear!

Don’t close the door please!

“Ding!” I am very hot. Take me out! Quick!

Please squeeze the cream on me. It will be cold

and yummier. Can you turn on the air-con to cool

me down? Then the decorative food will not

melt. Oh! It’s so hot. Okay, I want to put a

chocolate bean on the left-hand side of the

door. Hey, I told you, don’t put a strawberry on

the chimney!

Finished! Although I am so

ugly, I love the window very much!

These children are too small to

decorate me. They made me so

ugly! Well, maybe the children will

think I am too ugly and will not eat

me! However, if they do not eat

me, they will throw me in a dirty

and messy rubbish bag. It’s better

if you eat me than if you throw me

in a dirty and cold rubbish bag.

Here they come! Now, be

careful with the knife. Don’t eat

my door and window! They’re beautiful. Wow.

This was my first Christmas and my last

Christmas. It was quite unforgettable.

Fiona Goes to School By Yammi Cheng

One morning, Fiona had slept very sweetly. She didn’t want to get up.

Suddenly, her dad screamed, “It’s time to go to school!”

“I forgot about that! I will go to school now,” said Fiona.

Fiona and Fred were at school. It was time for the art lesson, and Fred

forgot to bring his own coloured pencils.

“Fiona, can I borrow your coloured pencils?” asked Fred.

“Of course,” answered Fiona. Then, she started to look for her coloured

pencils. After a few minutes, Fiona said, “I can’t find my coloured pencils either!

I think I left them in my bedroom!”

“Oh! My goodness!” said Fred.

Today, both forgetful Fred and forgetful Fiona forgot to bring their

coloured pencils.

After school, Fiona went back home. Her father needed to buy something.

“Fiona, do your homework now. You must finish your homework before I come

back. Do you hear me?” yelled Fiona’s father.

7 Kaleidoscope June 2012

“Yes, yes, yes! You don’t need to tell me again!” cried Fiona. But after

her father went out, she fell asleep until her father came back. When he

came back, he was angry to find out that Fiona did not finish her homework.

He scolded and punished her.

The next day, Fiona’s class teacher was going to take all of them to

the country park. Fiona and Fred were going too. The night before, Fiona

had bought two caps for the trip. She put them next to the dining table.

But today, Fiona forgot them. She looked for them in her bedroom,

kitchen, and bathroom, but she still couldn’t find them. Finally, she looked

for them in the dining room. She found them next to the dining table.

The next day, they went to the shopping centre. Fiona and her dad

bought many things there. They bought shoes, clothes, toys, food and a lot

of other things. When they wanted to go back home, Fiona’s dad stopped.

“We have forgotten our things. We forgot them in the shoe shop. Go

back to the shoe shop first!” yelled her dad. They went to the shoe shop.

The seller smiled at them and asked,

“Are you the customers who forgot all of

their things?”

“Yes, we are,” replied Fiona.

“You forgot so many things! We have

given them to the shopping centre security

guard. You can ask him to get back your

things,” replied the seller.

Then they went to the security guard.

“I am Fiona. Where are my things?” asked

Fiona.

“Here, please come with me,” he answered. When he gave back the

things to Fiona and her dad, he told them not to forget their things ever

again.

So, after that, Fiona didn’t forget things because these things were

very expensive! Now, she always checks her things carefully.

chew me up, I quickly got away

a tunnel to his stomach. I was

separated from my parents. “Oh

no!”

When I was going down to his

stomach, I suddenly found a magic

coin inside the tunnel. I picked it

up and kept it in my pocket. This

magic coin helped take me to

another world inside the crocodile’s

stomach. There was lava! It was

going to melt me! I kept on trying

to crawl up, but I couldn’t. I tried

and tried. Suddenly, I was lifted

up, and I was flying! I did not know

what power lifted me up, but it

saved me from the fate of melting

by lava. The power took me to go

through a hallway (inside the

crocodile) into a room. The room

didn’t make me feel comfortable. I

got a bad feeling about it. I

thought I was going to die. I was

locked in!

Then, I realized that an

enormous door was beside me! I

tried to pull and push powerfully,

but it wouldn’t open and let me go

Adventures Over

100 Years By Mike Chiu

When I was young, I went to

the zoo with my parents. I loved

animals very much, so I often went

to the zoo. I liked to look at the

crocodiles every time. But when I

saw that the crocodiles were

missing, I was shocked. “What

happened?” I thought. Suddenly, I

realized that a crocodile was behind

me! It wanted to eat me up. “Oh

dear!” I thought. I was about to run,

but it caught me and swallowed me!

When the crocodile was about to

in! I felt disappointed. Then, a

paper flew out of a hole in the

door. It read, “If you want to

open this door, use a magic coin!”

I followed the instructions to

open the door with the golden and

magic coin. The magic worked!

The door opened.

“Delicious steak, come and

try!” I heard a promotion for

something. Oh! I saw a city.

There were tall buildings. Some

of them even went up into the

sky. There were flying buses and

cars. There were beautiful and

wonderful streets. It looked

busy. I noticed that the residents

weren’t human! They were

animals. I tried to communicate

with them. I talked, yelled and

shouted, but at last, I gave up. I

used body language, and I asked

them, “Where’s the government

building?”

I ran to the government

building, and I found a dog

president. I told his interpreters

that I wanted a piece of big land.

Their language was quite

strange and confusing. He

ordered servants to tell me

where to go. I signed a piece of

paper. It was very curious

because they gave this to a

strange human in their world,

but they were friendly. I ran to

the building company. I told

them that I wanted a big house,

10 Kaleidoscope June 2012

a pool, a golf course and the most

comfortable flying car in the town.

I was surprised!

I had a convenient and

comfortable life there. After 100

years, I became an old man. One

day, I remembered my parents! “I

should go back!” I thought. I did

not know what to do. I really

wanted to see my own parents!

Suddenly, I felt something inside

my pocket. It was the old magic

coin from the crocodile! It lived in

my pocket, and it helped me for 100

years! I made my last wish. “Go to

the real world, to my parents’

home!” It took me back to the real

world and right in front of a house.

“Oh! What a spooky house!” I

thought.

I broke into the house, and a

couple came out

from one of the

rooms. They

asked, “Who are

you?” I was very

surprised. I

couldn’t believe

that they were still alive. They must

have had a very healthy life indeed.

“Do you remember me? I’m

your son, Mike!” I said.

“Son?” they asked.

“Well, yes! A hundred years

ago, I was eaten by a crocodile!”

“A crocodile ate you?”

“Yes!” I replied.

They hugged me and contin-

ued, “Oh, my son, where did you go?”

“When the crocodile ate me, I

went to a city with animals.” I told

them what I had done and where I

had been. I learned that a

comfortable life is good, but it is

better to have our lives with our

parents! They are very important! I

am happy to be home sweet home.

Letter to the Hong Kong Zoo By Anthony Pang

Dear Sir or Madam,

Hello! I am Anthony Pang, and I work for International

Animals Protecting Limited. Our job is to protect animals and

to sell or give animals to the government so that these animals

will be taken good care of by zookeepers. Now, we have a new

unusual animal called a panion. Would you like to get one for

free?

The panion is a cute animal. It is a baby from a panda

and a lion. It has a lion’s head and a panda’s body. Panions

normally live in a huge forest in Switzerland, which is owned

by our company. The forest is a nice place for various animals

to live. There are no cages. Once a year, a big circus is held by

our company. Many people come to watch the show. A panion

can jump out of a circle. It runs fast too. It eats meat and

bamboo leaves.

First of all, a panion is neither a lion nor a panda. It is a

panion and comes from a lion and a panda. Its head is like a

panda. The face is black and white, and it has a pair of black

ears. The body is white. The paws are black, but the body

structure is like a lion. This is why it is so special.

The reason why people would be interested in our animal

is because the panion is not a usual animal. You can see just a

few in our forest. People will like to see this cute animal that

comes from a lion and a panda. People will like them very much

because they already like pandas, and they all want to see a

real lion in the zoo, which Hong Kong doesn’t have now.

14 Kaleidoscope June 2012

Panions will look so cute in your zoo! People will be very happy to see

our animal and will ask their friends or relatives to go to your zoo to take

some photos. The zoo will be very crowded. You can earn money by selling

the tickets. I am sure they will always go there to visit it.

I hope you will like this idea and ask us to bring this unusual animal to

your zoo.

Yours truly,

Anthony Pang
