Freedom: A well-rounded school gives students freedom to recognize their capabilities and individual potentials. Something as little as putting toys away to helping set the placements for snack time can build good character that will last a lifetime. At the Day School, we foster an atmosphere where thinking, questioning, and imagining are encouraged while enhancing understanding, empathy and communication skills. Preschool is your students’ introduction into the education system; while it is fun and engaging for the children, it is an important responsibility for both parents and teachers. Holy Family Day School accepts students age 2 1/2 (toilet-trained) through Kindergarten. With Freedom comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes understanding. We will work to engage your children in a warm, caring, structured environment to help them understand how important they are in the world.

Do You Know What Your Elementary School Student is Doing After School? Holy Family Day School has a great program limited to 20 students for after school care. Students attending John B. Dey, Trantwood or Alanton Elementary school may ride a VBCPS bus to Holy Family. The program is structured to include playground time, snack time, homework time, centers, and other activities. School Information: If you have any questions or would like to take a tour of our school, please call 481-1180. Helpful information can be found on our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org. Summer Fun: We wish all our students (past and present), their families, and all who are reading this bulletin, a very safe and happy summer. During the summer, the Day School Office hours are somewhat varied. If you wish to contact Cindy Girard or Laurie Powers to set up an appointment, drop off paperwork, or have any questions at all, please call or email the school.

Farm Fresh KeychainTotals: Thank you to everyone who remembered to use their Farm Fresh Keychain Barcode Fobs this year! We earned $174,735.00 to redeem for important school equipment purchases. It was a pretty big adjustment from the receipt collection but, great job everyone!!! Thanks Again!

Box Tops For Education: Box Top collection is a year-round program and we are so pleased with the excellent response to this fund raiser for the school. There is a box inside the Welcome Office for you to drop off your collection.

THE YEAR OF MERCYTwelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today, as he often does, Luke portrays Jesus “praying in solitude” (Luke 9:18). The Jubilee Year of Mercy invites us to rediscover the value of silence as the prayerful setting in which to reflect on the ways in which God’s mercy transforms our lives, in order to make mercy the heart of our own lifestyle. But in a line that sounds odd, Jesus “rebuked” his disciples “and directed them not to tell anyone” (9:20-21) after they professed their faith in Jesus as “the Christ of God” (9:20). Jesus challenges us also to profess our faith not by what we say, but by what we do: take up our own cross daily (9:23) and “bear one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). Our gratitude for God’s mercy toward us should make us instruments of God’s mercy toward all. Then, as Zechariah prophesies in today’s first reading, the fountain of God’s mercy will open to purify the whole world from the sin and selfishness that cause suffering and sorrow to so many (Zechariah 13:1).

“CREATION CARE CORNER:” We may not see ourselves as effective in advocating for the environment with legislators or writing letters to the editor about the critical condition of our Earth. A meaningful story, which was made into a movie in the 70s, is “Jonathan Livingston Seagull.” This story beautifully illustrates the fact that all of us have potentials, which we have not begun to tap into. Jonathan was not satisfied with living the life most all seagulls were accustomed to. Seagulls were content with just eating, and flying for food. He believed that seagulls had the potential to expand their ability to fly. After numerous failures and frustrations, he was ready to abandon his dream. He eventually realized how to accomplish this dream. He acted on this insight and succeeded. Other young gulls noticed his skill and a community was gradually formed. True, this is just a story, BUT it has a lesson we can learn from. We may not see ourselves as effective in advocating for the environment with legislators or writing letters to the editor about the critical condition of our Earth. We need to pursue our goals, putting our minds and hearts into them, having a readiness to tolerate failures as we strive to achieve. Who knows what will happen if we apply ourselves to these or other tasks?“Jesus teaches us another way: Go out. Go out and share your testimony, go out and interact with your brothers, go out and share, go out and ask. Become the Word in body as well as spirit.”
