Montana became the only state in the nation that

does not ban at least some drivers rom texting when anew law took effect in South Carolina this week.  State Department o ransportation Director Mikeooley said Wednesday that while he believes Montananeeds such a ban, the state has never led the charge or newlaws regarding highway saety, leaving it to municipalities.  “I am disappointed that once again we’re last to takesomething regarding highway saety seriously,” ooleysaid, noting the state went without a statewide law onchild saety restraints or years.  About a dozen ordinances in Montana cities and twocounties ban texting behind the wheel, according to thedepartment. Driver cellphone usage contributed to 1,614crashes rom 2004 to 2013.  Montana lawmakers have proposed legislation banningthe use o cellphones while driving in recent years, butthose attempts ailed to gain traction. As she has in the past,Democratic state Sen. Christine Kaumann o Helena saidshe will propose a similar bill during the 2015 legislativesession unless another lawmaker wants to take the lead.  “We should be embarrass ed,” Kauffmann said othe lack o a statewide ban. “It would be good to haveconsistency across the state. Te ocus should be ondriving, not talking.”

It’s summer time and the kids are outo school. It’s exciting, but at the sametime some amilies don’t have accessto school nutrition and need helpwith kid-riendly ood staples.

Hi-Line Ford, in conjunction withthe Ford Focus on Child Hunger  campaign, will be collecting jars o peanut butter to support thesummer demand or kid-riendly oods or the ValleyCounty Food Bank.  All the peanut butter collected locally stays local!  Peanut butter is a highly desirable staple or

community ood banks to eed kids, but is expensiveand thus difficult or them to acquire in the quantitiesneeded during the summer months.

Te peanut butter drive, which runs rom June14-21, is in response to the increased demand or thisexpensive staple during the summer months, whenmany children lose access to school nutrition programs.  o make a donation, bring jars o peanut butter toHi-Line Ford during business hours.

Tis drive is part o a five-state campaign in thePacific Northwest by Ford dealers to support theircommunity ood banks and to make sure no child goeshungry this summer.
